Morro is based on simple geometric shapes – circles, triangles and rectangles. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. Manufactory JNL and its oblique counterpart were re-drawn from examples of a now-antique typeface used within many advertisements found throughout the pages of The American Stationer magazine, circa 1879. The term ‘manufactory’ was popular during this era; the word being a more archaic form of ‘factory’. There is a bit of Western flavor to this type design, as the spurred serifs and the top and bottom strokes are heavier than the vertical and mid-point stroke weights.

A photo of the now closed [circa-1953] Lowell Municipal Pool (at 1601 N. 28th St.) in Boise, Idaho shows the words “Municipal Pool” formed into the cement of the entrance to the above-ground swimming facility. Both the lettering and building entrance designs harken back to the Art Deco era and the sign features stencil-like characters. This inspired a typeface aptly named Municipal Pool JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

I am inspired by imagery that technology has rendered obsolete. I treasure anachronistic packaging and design which has somehow evaded obliteration by focus groups.I especially admire the packaging for A&P coffee brands Eight O'Clock, Red Circle and Bokar whose eccentric yet elegant typography harkens back to an earlier, less complicated era. The font Bokar is my nod of appreciation to those robust and full-bodied blends spared from the bland, tasteless scourge of corporate branding.

This series of faces was designed initially by Morris Fuller Benton, circa 1900. The design is a refinement of Taylor Gothic from 1897. It features a sans serif thick and thin design with angular stems. Pre-dating art deco, this design feels quaint, yet it still has a touch of modernism. Frederic Goudy designed a bold version of Globe Gothic in 1905 for ATF. The Bold and Bold Italic digital versions have been added to the LTC library in early 2007.

ZABARS is a full font developed from the six characters in the spectacular logo of the Zabar’s speciality foodstore in New York City. The Zabar’s lettering is a jewel, possessing greater sophistication and subtlety (and a more contemporary flavor) than the usual bifurcated (split serif) font which might simply suggest ‘Circus’ or ‘Old West’. And it’s been given an even fresher twist through the addition of a new lowercase which helps add to the 1960s countercultural aspect of the font’s personality.

I am not really sure if goldfish in general are lucky. They tend to swim in circles in a bowl, but maybe, years from now, scientists discover that these goldfish count themselves lucky to be in a bowl, rather than in a stream in Asia. Personally, I think they’d be better off in a stream. Lucky Goldfish font is a cute and happy font, ideally suited for book covers, posters and toy packaging. Comes with a school of diacritics too.

This family was inspired by a font carved circa 1590 for a Polish editor. We don't know who was the punchcutter, nor the printer's name. We have added the special East European diacritics (Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovak, Slovenian, Sorbian )as the original font has only the Polish accents. It is a Garamond type, like our 1592 GLC Garamond or 1589 Humane Bordeaux, rough and a little approximate, but attractive. We recommend using OTF version with Windows Vista, providing a best compatibility.

Capri is an expressive constructed sans serif typeface in the tradition of Kabel and Avant Garde. The proportions of the letters and the overall impression are modern and contemporary but also retain the crude charme of the constructivist concept. The design is based on basic forms as square, circle and triangle and was developed by drawing not writing. The dominant diagonal forms and the vertically cut endings of the curved strokes give the font its sharp-edged look and its puristic elegance.

This typeface was inspired by the popular typeface Machine but is not intended to be a copy of that font. It uses straight lines with circles converted to octagons. Old English is a digital font that was produced by Monotype's design staff, circa 1990. But its roots go much further back: the face's design is based on that of Caslon Black, a Blackletter type cast by the venerable William Caslon foundry in England, circa 1760. This design has been popular throughout England for centuries. Its style of lettering, conveniently also called Old English, can be found all over the UK. Old English-style typefaces belong to the Blackletter category. They nicely combine the design attributes of both the medieval and Victorian eras. This is mostly because their Textura forms, which were born during the Middle Ages, became quite fashionable again in the late 1800s! This Old English font is very legible for a Blackletter face. Perhaps that is why it is more familiar to readers in the UK and North American than German Blackletter varieties, like Fraktur. A favorite once again today, Old English is ideal for certificates, diplomas, or any application which calls for the look of stateliness and authority. It's a sturdy and sure bet for newspaper banners, holiday greeting cards, and wedding announcements.
