Basati is a display typeface designed for headlines and hard-hitting messages. It is sharp, heavy, and hard as an axe. Perhaps because its design was conceived during a severe bout of lumbago, its strokes are heavy and provocative, as if trying to defy logic and gravity alike.

Sabana is my first step in font design. A font that is born from the organic, from a creative process that starts from improvisation as a result of my training as an artist. To design Sabana I asked myself the question, why not make a font that emulates my own writing? as I found it fun to see my handwriting on a computer. This font can be used in a wide range of projects such as editorial design, motion graphics, web, advertising and branding where emulating handwriting is a necessity. The font has coverage for more than 200 languages ??derived of the latin alphabet in addition to Cyrillic. Sabana is where I come from, where I am from, a constant on the horizon that is occasionally interrupted by vertical lines and that together make a perfect visual symphony.

This font is based on the handwriting of author Franz Kafka and captures his expressive handwriting style, using the manuscript of The Trial and his diaries as the primary reference. The font presents the elegance and nervousness with which he wrote his letters and book manuscripts. To resemble naturalistic writing and remain as authentic and irregular as possible (without becoming impossible to read), a great number of extended ligatures was added. As an extra, several drawings from Kafka‘s diaries are included. A full international character set is featured.

Kensington started life as a sans serif based loosely on the strokes and weights of Garamond but, inevitably, influences of Gill Sans crept in, creating an interesting mix. The single weight is excellent for titling and works as a body font in reasonably small quantities.

A poster for a Dutch stage revue from the nineteen-teens, designed by Willy Sluiter, provided the template for this warm, wavy and whimsical headline font. The Opentype version of this font supports Unicode 1250 (Central European) languages, as well as Unicode 1252 (Latin) languages.

Norberto, a CastleType original, is based on a Russian design from the late 19th century that in turn appears to be based on Bodoni. However, Norberto is a much warmer design than most Bodonis, with many soft touches such as very gentle curves from the serif at the top of B, D, P, and R; a jaunty cap on the ‘A’ (and Cyrillic ‘El’, ‘De’, etc); charmingly quaint numerals; hairline accents, and other subtleties that make it a wonderful addition to the Modern typefaces. In addition to several useful OpenType features, Norberto also offers extensive language support, including modern Greek and most languages that use the Cyrillic alphabet, as well as built-in keyboard support for Esperanto and Yoruba. A modern black-letter, so to speak. Composed of a few basic elements with a wide-quill ductus. Faber Fraktur was based on the idea that it must be possible to create a modern black-letter type. The typeface is ”constructed“ according to the same principles as a script without serifs: as few varied basic forms as possible, omission of frills which make the type difficult to read and repetition of similar forms. The typical contrasting strokes of the original handwritten black-letter script are retained nonetheless. The elements of this typeface were even pre-formed with the quill. All characters are reduced to their basic skeleton. The fanciness and manifold ”breaks“ or fractures typical of black-letter typefaces are considerably reduced to just a few essentials. Faber Fraktur is a very legible type perfectly suitable for long texts. It does not appear nearly as foreign and archaic as the old black-letter fonts. The capital letters especially have a charm of their own radiating a kind of playfulness in spite of their severe form.

Kulturista is an unmistakeable linear slab serif typeface with pronounced rectangular serifs. The drawings are based on the sans-serif Nudista typeface, and Kulturista also inherits Nudista’s distinctive narrowed character proportions, range of weights and glyph sets. The italics are inclined sufficiently, and have the same width and colouring as the plain styles. They aren’t just a mechanically-slanted version of the basic styles, as is often the case for typefaces derived from geometrical images — a whole range of characters have their own drawn variants, which greatly strengthens their highlight function. The italics are therefore an equal partner for the roman styles. Kulturista is definitely a good choice for a headline typeface for magazines and book covers. The range of boldness can come in handy when editing sections, headlines and supplements. The typeface understandably proves itself as a healthy foundation for a unified visual style, and holds up at display sizes as well as on shorter texts.

Floki is a contemporary condensed sans serif with sixteen styles ranging from extralight to extrabold and accompanying italics. The amount of styles, condensed proportions and large character set make Floki suitable for various uses such as infographics, packaging, branding, advertising and editorial design. Floki’s aesthetics are distinctly modern and they have a hint of softness which comes from sublty curving the diagonal strokes in letters such as A and V. This feature really shines when you set text in tightly set caps as big as possible. Stylistically Floki leans more to the humanist sans serif but it has a flavour of geometry in its shapes as well. The result of this combination of features is a highly usable typeface with a clear voice of it's own. All styles feature small caps and multiple sets on numerals including lining figures, old style figures, tabular figures, small cap figures, numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors and fractions. Floki has latin extended character set making it well suited for multilingual typography.

The Quandor Family began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics known simply as "Impacta". The original specimen included standard Capitals and Lowercase, as well as a Biform character set. VLNL TpDuro was designed by chef Martin Lorenz and Juanra ‘Wete’ Pastor. Its concept was inspired by an Albrecht Dürer design from 1525, which shows a system to construct a gothic lowercase letter. Following the logic of this lowercase construction, but not the traditional uppercase letters of regular fraktur (brokenscript) alphabets, some brand new upper case letters were designed. The 45 degree tilted square that forms the basis of the letters, is as square and hard as a cracker. And we love crackers. You can put cheese on them. The ‘pixel’ feeling of the downstroke was intensified by repeating the rotated square module as often as they could. All this resulted in a strong, dark typeface with a steady rhythm, with one foot in history and the other in modern times. It works well as a display typeface for short texts, headlines and logos. Music festivals and heavy metal bands should also pay attention. This is hard stuff.

Hesse Antiqua is the very first typeface designed by Gudrun Zapf von Hesse. It was a pioneering project originally created by her over 70 years ago as a set of brass punches to stamp into leather book covers and spines at the Bauer Type Foundry in Germany. In celebration of her 100th birthday on 2 January 2018, Ferdinand Ulrich and the Monotype Studio team collaborated with her to bring her brass punches to live as a digital font. Hesse Antiqua was developed with careful considerations and decisions to capture the nuance of the beautiful letterforms as they originally appeared in gold and blind stampings. We are pleased to introduce this modern OpenType typeface featuring a proper set of capitals and small capitals, figures, punctuation and some ornaments as well. Hesse Antiqua is best used at 36 points and above, as the designer intended.

I decided to draw the Regular style of Trivia Humanist not too light and the Bold not too dark. Delicate anatomy and moderate contrasts of serifed humanist typefaces aren’t usually born by interpolating between extremes, but rather by meticulous care for each individual letter. A delicious blend of a trace of punchcutter’s tool and calligrapher’s hand with as few historical reminiscences as possible. It stays away from any strong aesthetic colorations as well, which is a common feature of the Trivia family system. I wanted a clear and majestic typeface for book jackets, LP cover designs, posters, exhibition catalogues and shorter texts. But at the end it turned out excellent for largest books as well.

Eisley started as an experiment with creating brushes in illustrator. I began by drawing each letter and tweaking until each one balanced next to one another. I painted over 50 paint brush strokes to give a variety of different looks to the final characters. Strategically crafted to look as real and as spontaneous as a sign painter might paint up (although possibly running a bit dry on paint giving the end result a vintage and grungy effect).
