Sheet music at the beginning of the 20th Century reflects both the musical and artistic tastes of the times in often colorful ways. It seemed to be a favorite thing amongst songwriters of that era to come up with very wordy song titles. The cover of the sheet music for 1907’s “Every Little Bit Added to What You’ve Got Makes Just A Little Bit More” checks in at fourteen words, but the hand lettered title (done in an Art Nouveau style) made it worthy of transposition into a digital type face. Nouveau Years JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

'Brokken’ is the Dutch word for ‘chunks’. They are the hearty specialty of the house, prepared by the ship’s cook Donald DBXL Beekman. Nice'n'greasy and monospaced, you'll always find a decent way to cram the letters in. Brokken is straightforward, straight-lined with beveled corners, and all caps. For the ones who have to watch their weight, or who simple don’t like their fonts to be too fatty, DBXL designed a diet version called Brokken Light. With their big contrast, both weights combine very well and are great for making ultra-compact ribbon headlines or stacking vertically.

ITC Dartangnon is a work of English designer Nick Cooke and began with the thought, It's a long shot but it might just work as a font." It started as a doodle with a chunky pencil. I was inspired to create the Rainier type family during my summer back home in the Pacific Northwest. The concept behind it may be simple - a hand crafted font family - but what it delivers is quite complex!
