The term starboard derives from the Old English steorbord, meaning the side on which the ship is steered. Before the steering wheel, boats were steered by an oar at the stern of the ship. Since most sailors were right handed, this is where you would find your steering oar! Starboard font is a rough, handmade, brushy kinda font. It was, of coarse, made with my favourite cheep brush and Chinese ink - resulting in a slightly eroded looking font. Starboard comes with all the trimmings, including double letter ligatures for the lower case.

Newgrange is a distinctive Celtic-style font designed as a companion to our Stonecross font. It has the same size and weight as Stonecross and the same carved/chipped style, but rather than being based on traditional insular minuscule letter forms, it's based on a squared uncial style similar to our Lindisfarne font. The result is unusual and rather more modern looking than we expected, but it's great for stylized titles. The name comes from the giant prehistoric stone tomb at Newgrange which some have called Ireland's answer to Stonehenge.

Vingo is an understated, elegant, sans serif face. This font is among the first in a series of alphabets I am creating that are dignified and sophisticated. I wish these fonts had been available when I was designing wine labels. These fonts are rooted in "old world" tradition, but are more utilitarian. Some of the funky aspects are downplayed, some are enhanced and updated. Any job that requires understated sophistication is perfect for this face. The name comes from the French for wine, "Vin", and "Go" from gothic-wine gothic or Vingo.

I am not really a creature of habit, but when I start working on a new font, I make myself a cup of coffee first. I guess you can call that a habit, so I decided to name this font Force Of Habit. Force Of Habit is a nice brush font - made with a cheap pencil that I borrowed from the kids’ colouring box and my trusted (and seemingly ever flowing) Chinese ink. Mesh Stitch has a hand-stitched look, with the capital letters/numbers being nine cross-stitches tall (+ about 3 stitches for accents). To make the font look authentic, I stitched some characters using wool and took photographs which were turned into glyphs. As a result, none of the cross-stitches are symetrical and some are at a slightly at an angle, because I didn't want the font to feel mechanical. As a result, the font has a cute, homely character to it. It is particularly good for large displays/headlines.

RMU Gilgengart is a revival of Hermann Zapf’s beautiful calligraphic blackletter font which was cut and first released by Stempel in 1952. This font comes with fine ligatures and swash letters. Cinnabar Brush is a font named after a mineral - mercury sulfide to be precise. I quite like the name and the color, so naming a font after it made sense. Cinnabar Brush is a very bold, very outspoken brush font. It is all caps, but upper and lower case glyphs differ and can be mixed. It is a bit on the heavy side, so I wouldn't set a text in it. Soerabaja is the old Dutch spelling of Surabaya, an important trading port city in East Java (Indonesia). This all caps art deco font was based on old colonial posters I found, plus a sprinkling of my imagination. It seems I have a weak spot for Art Deco fonts named after Indonesian cities - partly because the country has always interested me and partly because my wife’s family is from Indonesia.
