Some time ago, my son asked me to name all Seven Seas. I had to think for a bit, because I can think of more than 7 seas (the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, the South China Sea, the Sea Of Okhotsk, etc.), but apparently these are not part of the BIG Seven. It turns out that even oceans count as ‘seas’. Long story short, I created a font, had to think of my son’s question and named the font Seven Seas. Seven Seas is a hand made serif that comes with swashed alternatives for a lot of glyphs.

Phosphate Pro is an all-caps sans serif font family with an inline weight, and was created by Steve Jackaman (ITF) and Ashley Muir in 2010. The original Phosphate was published by International TypeFounders, and the family was based on the ‘Phosphor’ typeface created by Jakob Erbar for Ludwig and Mayer, circa 1922-30. Jackaman created a condensed variant, 'Phosphate Condensed Pro,' in 2017. Phosphate Pro has incredible presence, and its power shines in display format. ITC Digital Woodcuts font is the work of Timothy Donaldson. Although made on a computer, each character has the look of a block of wood with a character cut into it. The forms are made entirely of lines, typical of how the result would be if they were truly cut into wood. ITC Digital Woodcuts is a capital letter alphabet including both white letters on a black background and black letters on a whitish background which looks as though the bark of the piece of wood was chiseled away for the effect. Donaldson suggests alternating the black version with the white to create a three dimensional effect.

A cast iron plaque from Bristol Temple Meads Station serves as inspiration for this antique font. The plaque commemorates the design contribution of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who in March 1833 at only 27 was appointed chief engineer of the Great Western Railway, the line that links London to Bristol. This helped establish Brunel as one of the world’s leading engineers. Impressive achievements along the route include viaducts at Hanwell and Chippenham, Maidenhead Bridge, Box Tunnel and Bristol Temple Meads Station. Ironbridge evokes industrial heritage, gothic spookiness or eroded heavy metal.

Letterpress type, crafted by H. Th. Wijdeveld, founding editor and chief designer of the legendary Dutch art and architecture magazine Wendingen, provided the inspiration for this typeface. The original design graced a 1925 issue examining the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Wijdeveld created his typeface by assembling bits of standard brass rules. This version features several of the meanders typical of Wijdeveld’s graphic design in the dagger, double dagger, ASCII tilde and ASCII circumflex positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

I made this font on the first day of summer in Denmark 2020 - the rounded corners and the soft and easy look of Sunshine Formula, really got me into the "this-is-going-to-be-a-great-summer" mode! :)

Compagnon is a friend, a partner. This handmade display font will come in super handy when you are working on that book cover, or the packaging of a product. It will shine on posters and websites and it will keep you warm at night. I guess that last bit is an exaggeration… Compagnon comes in three distinct styles: a ‘regular’ version, which is a bit rough around the edges, a ‘dirty’ version, with a juicy eroded look and a polka dot version. All three have their accompanying italics.

TIP: Through trial and error, I feel Royal Tropic works best with clean serif/sans-serif fonts. Any other 'handwritten' fonts can disturb the rough/clean contrast, taking with it some of the impact of your design.

An informal decorative sans serif was designed by Gennady Fridman and released by ParaType in 2004. Based on informal lettering. In Russian 'Zubilo' means 'Cold cutter' or 'Chisel'. Colorful letterforms seems to be cut by an amateurish but strong hand used to operate with rough metal tools, not with pen or pencil. The face is good for use in advertisements, posters and headlines, especally for comic editions and youth press. Decorative styles were added in 2011 by the same author.

Bodoni Terracina is a legible, fun-formal script face, with lots of curls. Sometimes script faces are hard to read. Sometimes being formal means that there’s no personality and there’s no fun. Terracina is a subheads font, but Bodoni also used it for paragraphs. So Terracina works well doing subhead paragraphs, especially when contrasting with the mood of the first font. Lunatique Rounded is the soft version of Lunatique, a highly decorative font, available in three widths, with extended language coverage as well as alternates for some glyphs. And quite a seventies flair, isn't it? This font is inspired by Lucky typeface, designed in 1972 by André Pless for the Mecanorma permanent type contest.
