Spekulatus is a made up name, and that was what I needed for a font like this. I am not sure which category it fits in: grunge, square, handmade, rough or maybe even graffiti? Well, let's just say that it fits in all 5 - or perhaps even more? All letters are handdrawn, and messed up a bit with a thin fine white liner, leaving a gentle grungy and worn effect. I've added 5 different versions of each letter, which is quite nice - not having the same letters repeating all the time!

As a kid, I often fantasied about which superpowers would be the coolest. That was a time before the internet and social media, so my references were limited. But I guess that being invisible or fast speed was the top wishes. Not much, but still great powers - today, I think I’d wish for “world peace” or “with a blink of my eyes, sushi appears” as superpowers. PRIMITIVE is also inspired by the ancient cultures, especially scandinavian tribes as an anagram to the present. This "vandalism" is viewed from several angles. PRIMITIVE is one of them. I have no great love for walls, especially when they are built to keep people out. When I started working on this font, I realized it looked a bit like protest graffiti, found on… yes, walls. FangsALot is a bizarre typeface family that was designed to alternate two character sets. These sets are alternated automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature Contextual Alternatives (calt). The template used to design characters is a distorted triangle that resembles a curved tooth or a fang. This shape can be flipped horizontally, vertically, and both horizontally and vertically to give four orientations. Two of these orientations are used in the regular style and two in what is called the italic style. I thought the fang motif did not come through clearly in the regular and italic styles. Rather the impression they give is more like graffiti lettering. To emphasize the fang motif I added two more members to the family by filling fang outlines with unadorned sans-serif characters. Then to allow more color in lettering, I added two more styles with letters on black. I then had six styles based on triangles skewed left and right. Why not fill the family out with three more styles based on an isosceles triangle? The end result is a family of nine. All members of the family are monospaced and are hard to read. The three graffiti-like styles have some alternative letters that can be accessed with the OpenType feature Stylistic Sets. Also, for each style it is possible to use only one set of characters by adding a space after each letter and then adjusting the character spacing. The graffiti-like styles can be useful in situations where the hard-to-read property is not important but where a menacing and vicious touch is needed, such as topics of sharks, teeth, biting, and vampires.

I am working on my Halloween font collection and realised I did not have a ‘blood drip font’. So, I bought a second hand typewriter and typed all the glyphs. Then I made the blood drips using syrup, paper and gravity! The result is a halloween font with a twist!

Antique Price Tags JNL is a collection of fifty-two decorative price cards recreating the look and charm of turn-of-the-last-century mercantile shops. The design is a hybrid of the decorative frame and dollar sign of antique price cards spotted in an online auction, and prices modeled from some gummed numerals once made by the Tablet and Ticket Company of Chicago under the brand name “Willson’s Gummed Letters” (after the company’s founder). Also included in the font are blank price cards with only a dollar sign, a cents sign or an empty frame, as well as a solid black frame for creating a backfill color. A companion font is available with the numbers in white on black panel backgrounds.

This advertising script font was originally manufactured exclusively for Morgan Sign under license by the Hamilton Wood Type Manufacturing Company. The source patterns and original artwork for this typeface exist in the archives of the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, and were used for this fresh digitization of this font. This digital take includes alternate letters as originally designed in the mid-century wood type version, and now includes a full extended latin character set with over 350 characters.

Challah is a display font containing 295 glyphs. Letters are very diverse, but because they contain several shapes characteristic for each other - they retain a certain coherence. When creating the font, the main inspiration was to take from the Brazilian graffiti trend - Pichação and Korean typography. Most of the letters are the same size and width, however, when designing, we also tried to include at certain moments small "surprises" that will surely interest and surprise the user of the above-mentioned typeface. The font fits very well into the urban structure, therefore it perfectly matches the art on the walls with the art on the billboards, creating a kind of dialogue.

Ramp Age was originally made with a brush, but I wanted a more rough look to it. I manually traced the brush-strokes with short, straight lines, making the font more characteristic in its look. Can be used for grafitti things, but fits in the horror-genre as well!

Kaleidoxope is my hand-drawn headline font. However, I traced the font digitally to make it look more smooth - but still kept the handmade look. NixonScript is a display typeface inspired by the typographic emancipation given voice by 1950s and '60s north American vernacular type. NixonScript's starting point was lettering found on a 1960s camera found in a Chicago junk shop, but its development saw it transformed from a punchy sans-serif to a more thoughtful serif, with a lowered x-height and a vibe of almost priestly piousness. Rather than a simple regular italic, a bold italic is offered. Linotype Mateo is part of the Take Type Library, which features the winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest from 1994 to 1997. Jürgen Ellenberger included three styles in his font, roman, bold and outline. The characters of Mateo consist exclusively of lines, giving the font an extremely angular look. However, Mateo retains a certain handwritten style somewhat reminiscent of the graffiti left on wooden grade school desks by previous classes. This group of icons has graffiti as central theme, based on the most representative images and styles of the artists; Guache, Toxicomano and DjLu. In addition, the 26th Street corridor (also known as El Dorado Avenue) was taken as the main reference because it brings together the work of many important exponents in this type of art; at least locally and nationally. Some icons are characterized by have a similar appearance with the Stencil technique or by have a loose stroke with high contrast. This font can be used in projects and works related to street art.

In the early 1960s, the Duro Decal Company of Chicago, Illinois added to its line of water-applied decal lettering a retail sign cabinet of die-cut, pressure sensitive vinyl letters and numbers. Four of the six sizes offered for sale were cut from white plastic with a black outline and a secondary gold inline for a tri-color effect. Payload began as an early concept for Loaded magazine, and here is developed into a clean outline and rough splattery spraycan version. In this font, the upper and lower case characters are subtly different enabling a more realistic appearance to be achieved by ßipping between cases whenever characters occur together in pairs. Wide and Narrow styles of this popular font have been subsequently been added. This font is reminicent of military stencilling, urban graffiti and freight packaging.
