Castile is a central region of Spain that formed the core of the Kingdom of Castile, under which Spain was united in the 15th and 16th centuries. "Castile" is a Kufic modern Arabic typeface. It is suitable for books' covers, advertisement light boards, and titles in magazines and newspapers. It is very distinctive when used in black and white printout. It decorates colored pages and makes artworks more attractive. This font comes in three different weights. I adore Spain and the historical achievements of the Islamic civilization existed there in the past. By designing "Castile" Typeface, I wanted to refer to the Islamic civilization that Muslims had in Spain and especially in Andalusia. Today the name of Castile survives in two autonomous regions of Spain: Castile-La Mancha (capital city is Toledo) and Castile-Leon (capital city is Valladolid). The main characteristic of "Castile" Typeface is in its modern open-end style for some of its Arabic characters such as "Sad", "Dad", "Seen", "Sheen", "Qaf", "Faa", "Yaa" and others. Eckhardt Freehand JNL is the fourth font based on the lettering of sign painters and show card writers. Tandpasta is danish for toothpaste. I was inspired by an old commercial for toothpaste, and since the only letters I had to work with was "Toothpaste" I had to use my imagination, to come up with the rest. I used a slightly blurry pen, leaving the lines of Tandpasta somewhat uneven, but still legibe.

Sometimes a font idea can come from the most unlikely place. While watching a DVD of the 1950's TV Sitcom "My Little Margie", Jeff Levine spotted some unusual deco-styled numbers on the floor indicator of the apartment house elevator. Athenaeum was released in 1945 by Alessandro Butti and Aldo Novarese, probably for the Niebolo foundry in Turin, for whom this duo designed many successful types. Trencher JNL is based on hand-cut stencils spray-painted onto a vintage 1947 Cleveland Trencher acquired by the Marine Corps Mechanized Museum at Camp Pendleton, California. Restoration volunteer Brian Platzer supplied to Jeff Levine the images of the stencil markings - and they were quickly re-drawn and turned into a digital type face.

Handy Dandies JNL is a third collection from Jeff Levine Fonts of pointing hands along with a few card holders thrown in for good measure. Maga shares the skeleton with one of our first typefaces (Quaestor, from 2004), but we didn't want to simply expand an existent design, so we took a step forward—not just with improved features and new weights, but also making the italics more usable than its predecessor. The balance between the counters and the space between letters makes this a very space-saving typeface with plenty of legibility, yet stylish enough for contemporary magazine design.

Woodruff was inspired by a piece of charmingly hand-lettered signwriters’ ornamental Roman seen on a half faded away brick wall, on the end of a row of shops. It has a naive hand drawn charm that lends a very special touch to posters, signage and headings. Woodruff is ideal where an atmosphere of primitive charm, with a little regard for aesthetics is required, and can be used in such situations without sacrificing legibility.

With Dreadnought I go back to my roots: one of my very first fonts was a scary brush typeface called Face Your Fears - a very popular typeface with horror lovers, thrill seekers and gangsta rappers. Dreadnought was created using a stiff brush and some very high quality paint on textured paper. The result is a lively, scary and very legible font. Use it for your movie, book or album: you won't be disappointed!

Ostent is a font family which is inspired by the early Din-Type fonts. In particular, Din 1451. This is reflected in Ostents simple and uncomplicated design, which results in creating a good sense of legibility. Each of the three weights have been carefully designed to work in conjunction with one another, or individually, complimenting other typefaces. Ostent can be used across a wide range of design mediums (both print and screen).

Howlett combines great character with extreme legibility. It's a simple display face that offers a sense of coziness and order, that speaks of all being well with the world. It is a modern design which pays due Acknowledgment to the past. An extensive range of Opentype features, including old-style numerals, terminal forms, ligatures and stylistic alternatives are included. Calamity Wayne is a reverse-contrast slab serif, inspired by the ‘wild west’ French Clarendons (aka Italians or Egyptians) of the late-1800s. Despite the idiosyncrasies that make it ideal for display and headline uses, it is also surprisingly legible in text settings. Calamity Wayne supports Latin, Cyrillic and Greek, and is available in OTF and TTF formats. Tenby is a series of modular geometric display sans serif fonts with a hint of Art Deco combined with a 1980s finish. The fonts' underlying grid is ten squares high. Their widths correspond to condensed (Tenby Four), normal (Tenby Five) semi-extended (Tenby Six), extended (Tenby Seven), and extra-extended (Tenby Eight). Each contains two weights, light and regular. Although smaller text sizes are still quite legible, the fonts work better at large sizes.

Cursive Script is a digital handwriting font. It is slightly different from many other handwriting fonts as it is designed to be regular and highly legible. As such it is clearly a digital font, inspired and informed by natural handwriting rather than attempting to emulate it. It contains 697 glyphs, mostly lower case alternates to ensure natural, flowing script. It also has stylistic alternates for many lower case letters, particularly those with ascenders and descenders.

In the old Amsterdam neighborhood of 'De Jordaan', you will find a canal called Bloemgracht (Flower Canal). For many years, a coffee store called Schildmeijer could be found here. Their paper coffee bags and advertisements sported a hand made font which I have tried to recreate and the result is Bloemgracht typeface. It is an all caps art deco font, quite angular, but very legible and distinct. Bloemgracht comes with extensive language support.

ITC American Typewriter was designed by Joel Kaden and Tony Stan. It is an ode to the invention that shaped reading habits and the idea of legibility, the typewriter. Cristal is a modern typeface inspired in the cuts of a bevel effect. Its lines build each letter as a cutted gem giving an unique elegant aspect. It comes in two weights to be used at different sizes and has positive and negative versions. Also has a solid version that allows compose more legible texts. Cristal Dingbats and Cristal Frames are two essential complements to obtain a great typographic system of 15 fonts.

Abeille means bee in French. I am a little worried about the world's bee populations, as whole colonies collapse due to monoculture and pesticides. I have planted many bee-attracting plants in my garden and even put up a 'bee hotel' (which is full of tenants right now). Abeille is a hand drawn didone-ish font, kind of cute and happy, very legible and full of character. Abeille comes with a swarm of diacritics.
