The hand-lettered signage of 1920s and 1930s America produced many typographic jewels that digital type has yet to manifest. This face is but one of them. Unearthed by Alfredo Graziani and Alejandro Paul from a 1923 Speedball lettering manual, Milk Script is a distinctive upright script that offers well-nourished majuscules and sweet-flowing minuscules. A non-connecting variation of this versatile display script is also offered for additional aesthetic control.

We have created this family from the numerous derivatives in use for newspapers since the middle of the 1800s to the 1970s, inspired by the well known Clarendon. Mainly, the patterns are those used to print Le Petit Journal, a popular French Newspaper of the era (published from 1863 to 1937). The present version contains Normal, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic styles, in two sub families: 1906 French News for texts and titlings with upper and lower case, and 1906 French News Caps (Caps, small caps, small numerals, for texts and titlings).

Eventyr is danish and means fairytale. You may know the name of the famous danish author, HC Andersen, who was well known for his fairytales. Actually I finished this font while listening to one of his fairytales, and that inspired me to call this font Eventyr. Most fairytales include the number 3 (3 choices, 3 wishes ... etc) but this font has the number 4 - because you have 4 slightly different versions of each letter to choose from. Humanex is the first text typeface of Sébastien Truchet. He created it during the year of postgraduation ‘Systèmes graphiques, typographique & language' in Amiens. The beginning stages of the font development involved calligraphic research based on humanistic ductus. Sébastien’s goal was to introduce modules in a lineal structure. Downstrokes and upstrokes are homogeneous. Links between stem and curve are straight. It gives solidity and thickness to the typographical composition. The first version was a Semi Bold version and its italic. This typeface gave a blackest text. You can see the first display typeface, Humanex Ultralight. Sébastien kept the Semibold structure in order to make a thin typeface. Its goal is to give support to the Semibold version. It is a good typeface in big sizes. In order to add a better legibility, Sébastien built a Book version to have a brightest grey of text. The reading is more comfortable.

Frederic Goudy designed National Old Style Roman in 1916. It is loosely based on a logo he lettered for the National Biscuit Company in 1901. Steve Matteson expanded on Goudy’s original by designing a bold, semibold and matching italics. While much of Goudy’s work is strongly influenced by Venetian types of the 15th and 16th centuries - this design has a truly American quality about it. The design is useful for text or headlines that captures a sense of Americana.

Guanabara is the third release of Plau Type Foundry. It started from the need of a wayfinding typeface that had personality enough to be the brand typeface for a city. The city of Rio de Janeiro, with its never-ending curves and all year long summer weather provided the constraints and requirements of this typeface. From there, it evolved to be a workhorse, with 8 weights from Thin to Black and matching true italics. It just had to have the features that all us designers have grown to love, such as alternate letters (a, g and r for the romans), tabular and proportional figures in lining and oldstyle set-ups as well as small caps, fractions and all that jazz (I mean, samba). And it needed to be recognizable and distinct. For that, design features like tapered R legs, capitals with classic proportions and calligraphic finishes on the terminals proved crucial. And last, but not least, like Rio, it had to welcome many cultures. We came to think of it as the “Typeface from Ipanema”, with a classic, timeless look, swinging elegance and joyful attitude.

Galix is a technical sans designed to look futuristic without any of the retro appearance often found in this genre. It has a squarish, slightly condensed anatomy, and is characterized by thin joints and deep ink traps that add a sparkle to the otherwise monoline typeface. In the italic styles, these cuts are accentuated even more which creates a feeling of speed in the letterforms. Galix is optimized for display typography (the ascender height is the same as the cap height, and the spacing is somewhat tight) but the middle weights are very readable at smaller sizes, where I'd recommend adding a little tracking. OpenType features include ft and tt ligatures, stylistic sets/alternates, automatic fractions, tabular, superscript and subscript figures, case sensitive forms. Perfect for websites, apps, infographics, magazines and logotypes, Galix is technical but with a warmth and personality that is often missing from this genre.

Soundboy is an ode to Elvis Presley and his music. The font was drawn by hand from a number of images from the Blue Hawaii film and finished to perfection. The digitization was done with great care and the font was also provided with a number of extras such as ligatures. Soundboy is a playful and translatable font that at first sight has already caught everyone with a spontaneous and broad smile. Logos, house styles, magazines, covers, vinyl records, book covers, t-shirts, house styles and all kinds of other graphic expressions will look a lot happier. Designed by Hans Samuelson in 2023. With two weights and many variations Klip Klop offers a large set of characters for playful lettering. The flavouring is strong avant garde and the build is strict geometrical with even stroke thickness throughout. One unusual feature is that the bottom and top horizontal strokes are centered on the baseline and capital height. This renders the same optical size between the thin and the medium but different actual heights and baselines. Use it for Headlines or signage in any medium! Klip Klop!

This typeface is a new and improved (really!) version of one of my most popular freeware fonts, Team Spirit, which has made appearances in the Tank McNamara comic strip and on Blue Collar TV. Add the “nose” at the front with an open parenthesis -(- and add the tail with a close parenthesis -). To continue the bar beneath between words, use the _underscore in place of a space. No math operators and limited punctuation, but complete accented characters for the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Totebag JNL continues the stencil font series from Jeff Levine originally inspired by classic lettering stencils of the 1940s and 1950s. This particular design is common amongst "painting stencils", the individual letters used for marking and identification. Some characters are solid shapes while others have the more traditional "breaks" in the letters.

The design of Vivala Re highlights a powerful contrast between thin curved lines and straight stems. The inline style is not limited to the inside of the strokes but is actively incorporated into the design. This font is well suited for all headlines in posters, book design, magazines, brochures and web design.

The hand lettered title on the 1915 sheet music for “On the Banks of the Amazon” was the design model for Nouveau Spurred JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. This gently spurred Art Nouveau Roman is a beautiful choice for headlines, book titles and other retro-influenced projects.

This typeface has its roots in the Egyptienne-family which became popular in the beginning of the 19th Century. To make the family more unique and personal, ”twists” have been crafted throughout the design. This quaint headline typeface is based on an offering from the Cleveland Type Foundry, originally named Oxford. The centered small caps treatment makes for unusual and alluring headlines. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Inspired by the signwriting on traditional old canal boats in the UK, this bold, block serif design has many potential uses. Due to the modular nature of this design there may be a slight lack of smoothness to the curves at very large point sizes (around 100 pt and above).

Rodia is an Oddball Geometric Sans Typeface consisting of nine weights in both roman and oblique. It’s a geometric sans with a twist that’s perfect for branding and identity projects – it will also give your body text a unique voice.
