A decorative сaps-only typeface designed for ParaType in 2004 by Gayaneh Bagdasaryan. Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966), whose career spanned nearly ninety years, holds a unique place in American art and culture. He was enormously accomplished and successful in both fine art and commercial endeavors. Parrish's hand-drawn letters were a significant part of his works, which bridged the familiar with a startling otherworldliness. P22 has created the Parrish font set in cooperation with the National Museum of American Illustration.

The idea of symmetry came to me when I was lookig for a geometric sans font. None of the things that I found did have the mathematically perfect symmetry. So, I went ahead and created one. I have used complex mathematical equations to get the perfect angle in every letter. Diameter comes with two styles square corner and rounded corner, each with regular and bold weights.

This is not a brush font! This is an imitation of brushstrokes, done by pen. But I guess you've already noticed that - the brushstrokes are way too obvious, to have been made by brush. Although being a "fake", the letters leaves you with quite a good impression. Letters were inspired by an old horror movie poster, but is very useful for something less terrifying!

JetJaneButton has letters on a design that looks like a computer button. Its letters are from JetJane Mono, a sans-serif monospaced font. There are many fonts inspired by Lucian Bernhard. I have always admired his 1906 award-winning poster: ‘Priester’— believed to be the birth of the ‘Sachplakat’ (or Object Poster). I have interpreted the hand lettered “Priester” logo into a formal typeface and only hope I have done it justice. DESIGN STORY—THE FORGOTTEN SANS by Dave Lawrence, Lead Designer, California Type Foundry Adrian Frutiger was the 20th century master of sans, but I didn't realize he had made—not one—but TWO geometric sans! It wasn't until I had purchased the book “Adrian Frutiger: Typefaces”. I had hoped to someday meet Adrian Frutiger, but he passed away that very same year. Here is the story of Frutiger's forgotten sans. Back in 1968, Frutiger was approached by Pentagram to make a design for British Petroleum. They wanted a "new version of Futura". However, they wanted him to make a couple adjustments. First, they felt that Futura was "too fiddly." By this, they meant that it narrowed too much at the joins. (Joins are for example where the round and straight parts of the 'd' meet.) This is something that is necessary for small print text (to prevent ink clogging), but is not necessary at large sizes. Second, they wanted it to be entirely geometric, using the circular shape with minimal optical corrections. Unfortunately this font was not even used very consistently in the BP brand. A haphazard mix of Futura and Frutiger's BP font ensued. It was then replaced by another font design very soon after. My design is different in several ways. First, the commas and quotes are a more modern style. I tried his original commas, but these just didn’t work to 21st century eyes. Second, in his drawings, Frutiger went for a more standard u with a downstroke on the right. However, Oceanwide has a simpler u. Third, I made more optical adjustments. At the direction of his employer, Frutiger reluctantly put no font optical corrections into the letters. So I think my optical adjustments are similar to what Frutiger would have wanted. Fourth, I extended the weight into the light and extra light ranges. Fifth, the rest of the font I created according to the principles of Adrian Frutiger, but with no sources for inspiration. Here is Frutiger’s design philosophy, in his own words: “If you remember the shape of your spoon at lunch, it has to be the wrong shape. The spoon and the letter are tools; one to take food from the bowl, the other to take information off the page... When it is a good design, the reader has to feel comfortable because the letter is both banal and beautiful.” The words about the spoon were the ones I kept in my mind as I tried to make the curves ultra smooth, and the shapes ultra simple. Hopefully this font is a worthy successor to the font that inspired it. Phinney Jenson ML is a font with deep historical roots firmly planted in the fertile soil of the Italian Renaissance. Twenty years after Lorenzo Ghiberti finished his famous East Doors, the Gates of Paradise, of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence and about fifteen years before Sandro Botticelli painted his “Birth of Venus,” a French printer by the name of Nicolas Jenson set up a small print shop in the powerful city-state of Venice. The fifteenth century marked the end of the plague and the rise of Venetian power, as the merchants of Venice controlled the lucrative trade of the eastern Mediterranean and sent their ships as far as London and even the Baltic. In 1470, Jenson introduced his Roman type with the printing of De Praeparatio Evangelica by Eusebuis. He continued to use his type for over 150 editions until he died in 1480. In 1890 a leader of the Arts & Crafts movement in England named William Morris founded Kelmscott Press. He was an admirer of Jenson’s Roman and drew his own somewhat darker version called GOLDEN, which he used for the hand-printing of limited editions on homemade paper, initiating the revival of fine printing in England. Morris' efforts came to the attention of Joseph Warren Phinney, manager of the Dickinson Type Foundry of Boston. Phinney requested permission to issue a commercial version, but Morris was philosophically opposed and flatly refused. So Phinney designed a commercial variation of Golden type and released it in 1893 as Jenson Oldstyle. Phinney Jenson is our version of Phinney’s version of Morris' version of Nicolas Jenson’s Roman. We selected a view of the Piazza San Marco in Venice for our gallery illustration of Phinney Jenson ML because most of the principal buildings on the Piazza were already standing when Jenson arrived in Vienna in 1470. The original Campanile was completed in 1173 (the 1912 replacement is partially visible on the left). The Basilica di San Marco was substantially complete by 1300. The Doge’s Palace (not in the photo, but next to the Basilica) was substantially complete by 1450. Even the Torre dell'Orologio (Clock Tower) may have been completed by 1470—certainly by 1500. To create a result that is true to the original, Harald Geisler developed a method to analyse the movement of the famous writer. On the 6 August 1915, the defenders of the fortress, the Russian soldiers, against whom the enemy had used poison gas; though half-dead, were able to rise to the counter. Thus it was that 60 Russian soldiers routed the 2 thousand strong enemy army. This heroic episode has gone down in history as"Attack of the dead". Rimbomba is a freehand style font with long ascenders and descenders and a steep slant making it elegant yet casual. It is inspired by writing letters by hand, as it was done before, with strokes that in the normal style imitate the tip of a pen and in the medium and bold styles they imitate a round pen stroke. It is a font with strength in its movements and finesse in its curves, which creates a homogeneous set that is easy to read and which produces a certain reading speed. This remastered font family is a chip off the old block, and will help you thaw out before your skin starts to freeze and flake. We recommend you melt Frostbite cubes in the warm water too to ensure you don't stick to the ice. We also recommend you don't lick the letterforms, as we know our customers are wont to do.

Hodgepodge is a confused mixture of letters that somehow work together. While I know this has been done before I create fonts that I need. And I occasionally have found a need for this. And it was not there, so now it is. There is a mixture of light and dark, bold and regular, caps and lower case but not where you would expect them to be. Since this is a headline font you can set the headline and then easily go back and change a letter here or there to get the best-looking combination. Hodgepodge was in the 2011 Typodarium Page-A-Day Calendar on 7-17-2011.

Draughtwork is a special decorative font designed to have the look of a work in progress, showing the process of constructing letters using a ruler and a compass on a grid. It's in the tradition of our very popular Roughwork font, but more detailed and with additional features. Unlike Roughwork, Draughtwork includes a full upper and lower case character set plus some special alternate character variants. Developing Draughtwork was a monstrous task. The complexity of the 9x9 grids with each character were a challenge to the rendering capacity of Fontographer and required an extraordinary amount of fine tuning - but the result was worth the effort.

The Fill fonts in the Bay Tavern family are meant to be used with Bay Tavern Open fonts, if you're using Bay Tavern Open then select Bay Tavern Fill, if you're using Bay Tavern Open L then select Bay Tavern Fill L, if you're using Bay Tavern Open S then select Bay Tavern Fill S, if you're using Bay Tavern Open SL then select Bay Tavern Fill SL, the same rule goes for the Open X version.

The "Newbeats" typeface came about after watching the film A Hard Day's Night starring the Beatles, hence the name "Newbeats". The font was on the poster of the film and based on these letters I designed a full alphabet, complete with ligatures. The font has been fully digitized and fine-tuned to make it possible to use in all software applications and graphics programs. Whomever sees the font for the first time would think this is a totally new font; it has a modern look despite the mid-60s feel that I have tried to preserve.
