VetteLetters is proud to bring you the TpKurier-family. It is cooked up by our German chef Martin Lorenz currently living in lovely Barcelona! Chef Lorenz about the TpKurier recipe: “TpKurier is the second redesign we did of Courier. The first redesign in 2000, although based on a five-unit grid, was drawn completely by hand. Six years later we designed another grid version of Courier, and the TpKurier family was born. This version is completely constructed up till its last detail. We didn't want to correct ‘mistakes’ deriving from the use of the grid, but instead make them visible (see “S”). TpKurier is based on a very simple grid, composed a proportion of four units high by two units wide. A series of other links between them make it possible to form a font from this grid. We felt it was important to consistently work within these limitations so that any unexpected asperities would help provide the font with its character. Even though it is a rough constructed typeface it was important to us to design real italic lower case letters and not just a sloped roman (see “a”, “g” or “s”). The first family published contained a serif and sans-serif version of the TpKurier, with italic and bold.”

Jantar Sharp is a text family with flared terminals that eludes the catego­ries of serif or sans. Its most recognisable features are taken from both styles to achieve proper design and high legibility standards. Jantar Sharp performs especially well when used for continuous reading including texts on web platforms. Its personality lies in the flared stroke endings and certain details which make its shapes neither sans nor serifs. Rather than following any particular historical model, it picks up elements from various periods to achieve an organically dynamic look which is entirely compatible with the reading process. Jantar Sharp Italic makes a nice contrast, though the pace and proportions are not drastically different from the upright. This allows for effortless reading of longer passages of italicised text. Jantar Sharp – as well as its teammate Jantar Flow – has been designed in seven weights from ExtraLight to Heavy, all with accompanying italics; it has a tabular and proportional set of figures in both old style and lining options are included together with a special set of hybrid figures sitting between x-height and capitals. Superscripts and subscripts are provided together with a vast collection of diacritics covering all European language and a set of case-sensitive characters.

Its inspiration comes from the types without serifs, with features ranging from architecture to modernist design products. With generous shapes and counterforms, the type becomes showy wherever it is, masterfully fulfilling the purpose for which it was designed. Initially designed for a signaling project in the Brazilian city of Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, the STP Display was expanded to include the largest number of characters in the Latin alphabet. This helps to find solutions in cases where a large number of languages to communicate something is needed, such as to inform a specific place for a tourist or also a direction to follow for an employee in a company. The STP Display is a modular feature, developed with rounded corners and a design based on geometric elements, ideal for use in large sizes. Forms and counterforms, its main characteristics, bring prominence to any signaling project. The STP Display also has another version, the STP Stencil, and in addition to wayfinding projects, both can be used in architectural projects, advertising, packaging, posters, and others. With a complete Latin alphabet, STP Display covers over 90% of the supported languages, covering the whole American continent, East and West Europe and most of the countries of Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Ana is a chromatic typeface consisting of 26 uppercase Latin characters, inspired by arabesque patterns from the nineteenth century. Programmed to enable users to easily create multicolored drop caps and initials, this decorative display typeface features a different ornament for every letterform, which fits perfectly with its glyph shape. This ornament is usually more luxurious on the left side of the letter, while on the right it is scarce, so that the body text can be placed close to the initial. These initials are valuable for use in large sizes, like posters, magazines, packaging design, fairy tales, and so on. The final forms of the initials consist of 5 parts which can be individually colored. There are 5 font files named Ana Layer A, Ana Layer B, and so on. A font user can manually create a multicolored initial with these font files, if there is no possibility to use the Contextual Alternates option. To do that, it is necessary to make 5 layers in the page layout software. Then, the corresponding character should be placed on each layer, so that Ana Layer A is on the lowest layer and Ana Layer E is on the highest one. Note that the glyph shapes are contained in the lower case positions. In contrast, the font file named Ana is programmed, so it is possible to create a multicolored initial with the Contextual Alternates command. There is no need for additional layers, everything happens on a single layer. First, the Contextual Alternates command (usually under OpenType menu) should be disabled. Then, using lower case key, type the desired character 5 times and apply color to them. Select them all and turn on the Contextual Alternates. Also, the font file Ana comes with a set of ‘black’ initials that can be used just like any other non-color typeface. The ornamental versions are contained in the uppercase positions, while the letters without the ornaments are in the lower case. With the font file Ana Monochrome one can only get the monochrome initials. Ornamental letters are contained in the upper case positions, while the letterforms without the ornaments are in the lower case.

Sihmitree is a gimmick typeface in which all glyphs have reflective (mirror) or rotational symmetry (or both). Sihmitree has two weights and is caps only, with most of the lower-case letters identical to the upper-case letters. It includes only those accented characters that are symmetrical. The letters of the alphabet are often used to explain symmetry. BCDEK are given as examples of shapes that can easily be formed with symmetry over a horizontal line. AMQTUVWY can easily be formed so that they mirror over a vertical line. Letters HIOX can be formed so they mirror over both horizontal and vertical lines, and as a result they will also have rotational symmetry. Letters NSZ can be formed so that they reproduce themselves with a rotation of 180º. That leaves letters FGJLPR, which are usually considered examples of asymmetry. However, there are script versions of J, L, and R that can be formed with symmetry, and variants of lower-case f and g can be made that are symmetrical. P looks a lot like the thorn character. Some of the numbers also present challenges when trying to form them symmetrically. The symmetrical alphabet is not stylistically harmonious and has limited use other than as an exploration of symmetry.

Idiom is an extra-condensed, tightly spaced display face with congruent forms exuding a strong sense of rhythm and elevation. The basic stenciled geometric shapes are reminiscent of the decorative style found with P22 Albers and Futura Black. Careful consideration of each letter's construction, relative to all characters, lends Idiom a decided sense of cohesion and sophistication. The included non-traditional 'weights' (Medium and Bold) are completely blacked out, creating entirely new letterforms that exhibit a very stark, contemporary sense. Increasing the versatility of the Idiom family, a selection of OpenType features allow access to a set of contrasting linear punctuation forms, unconventional ligatures, case-sensitive punctuation and more. Art Gothic was attributed to the Central Type Foundry of St. Louis, Missouri, USA by Henry Lewis Bullen, writing in INLAND PRINTER in 1907, with a reproduction shown in Kelly’s American Wood Type. The typeface appears on the cover of an issue of “The Superior Printer” pictured in Typology by Heller and Fili dated in the 1870s. Art Gothic was designed in 1884 by Gustav Schroeder and proved to be one of the more popular and enduring of the American-designed Victorian display faces of the period, appearing frequently in ads in various publications. The Hamilton Mfg. Co showed a very similar wood type, No. 232, with a modified and rather heavy-handed upper case in 1892. As late as 1897, it may be found in the advertising section of The Ivy of Trinity College of Hartford, Connecticut and was included in the Norwood Press 1902 Specimen Book. Our font includes a complement of five upper case and four lower case alternatives as follows: 123=C, 125=E, 135=H, 137=S, 172=c, 175=e, 215=m and 247=s. Great for period pieces. ART GOTHIC HIH is clean, readable, and surprisingly modern-looking; unlike so many overly complex Victorian display fonts, it can be used in text sizes.

I am creating new fonts for my Halloween collection and Gallows Hill is the latest one. It was made using a cheap brush, gouache mixed with Chinese ink and paper. The result is a very messy, rough and scary font. As a bonus, I have added double letter ligatures for the lower case.

Nevison Casual was designed by T. Nevison in 1967 and is an informal, lively, modern handwriting. Harlow is a decorative font designed by Colin Brignall which appeared with Elsner + Flake in 1979. The outline alphabet complements the standard characters and its shadows make its forms seem lighter. Most distinctive in harlow font is the contrast between the relatively regular forms of the lower case letters and the extravagent capitals.

Cutting Corners is all about letters made of squares that also suggest circles. That’s it. This is one of several fonts I’ve created based upon a strictly geometric form; in this case, a round-cornered square. The width is equal to height (except for i, I and most punctuation). Usage recommendations: logos, samplers.

Lightly playful, this font had a lot of influences in its design. I liked the look of this style in three fonts and decided to create my own version. This is it. Included is a version called Italic, but it is not a true Italic, just a variation in some lower case letters.

Ashtanga was named after a type of yoga. In Sanskrit it means "eight-limbed", which I find quite appropriate, give the amount of swirls and curls. The font is 'all-caps', but the upper and lower case glyphs differ completely. They are, of course, fully interchangeable. Ashtanga comes with multi language support.

ITC Forkbeard is the work of British designer Michael Gills and named after a famous Viking warrior. Gills was inspired by the work of Victor Hammer as well as a lesser known uncial style called Andromaque. Distinguishing characteristics of ITC Forkbeard are its geometric overtones and its distinct capital and lower case letterforms.

This is a stylized blackletter font with many OpenType features and 403 characters -- many of which are presently unknown for blackletter fonts: Caps, lower case, small caps, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters and so on.
