The Keiss type family is our interpretation of the popular nineteen century Scotch Roman typefaces. We intended to keep a very classic approach while introducing a couple of new elements that differentiate this type family from it’s ancestors. This design, with short descenders and ascenders, along with three very distinct optical sizes makes this type family well suited for contemporary newspapers. The Title and Big versions range from Thin to Heavy, with matching italics, in order to be used in big sizes and stand out in the design. The Text ranges from Thin to ExtraBold and is a standalone type family for text usage, with narrow proportions and wider and open italics for improved text setting. Vesta™ was originally designed as an orientation and information system for the city of Rome, the birthplace of the roman alphabet. The forms are inspired by letterforms found on a frieze in the Vesta temple in Tivoli. Vesta has more contrast than the average sans serif but, like many of other designs of Gerard Unger, let in a lot of light - the letterforms are open, the counters generous. Relatively narrow and hence economical - without feeling too compressed - Vesta is an ideal solution for newspapers and magazines, and numerous other applications, including corporate identity and more. In designing an advertising poster to show off the unconventional Safefont typeface, Steve drew what appeared as relatively traditional letterforms for the expository text. When these characters were as well received as the typeface which was the subject of the poster, Steve decided to expand them into a full-fledged graffiti style typeface of their own. While exploring where this new design might lead, Steve worked to elaborate the poster segment which had inspired it. He soon found himself staring at a drawing of a weapons-wielding Bonnie and Clyde. The desperate duo resonated with the graphic elements of the drawn letters; thus leading to the effortless fleshing out of the design, and to its name, Big Clyde.
