Art Gothic was attributed to the Central Type Foundry of St. Louis, Missouri, USA by Henry Lewis Bullen, writing in INLAND PRINTER in 1907, with a reproduction shown in Kelly’s American Wood Type. The typeface appears on the cover of an issue of “The Superior Printer” pictured in Typology by Heller and Fili dated in the 1870s. Art Gothic was designed in 1884 by Gustav Schroeder and proved to be one of the more popular and enduring of the American-designed Victorian display faces of the period, appearing frequently in ads in various publications. The Hamilton Mfg. Co showed a very similar wood type, No. 232, with a modified and rather heavy-handed upper case in 1892. As late as 1897, it may be found in the advertising section of The Ivy of Trinity College of Hartford, Connecticut and was included in the Norwood Press 1902 Specimen Book. This time the font's name is meaningless. Maduki doesn't mean 'cool' in Swahili, nor does it mean 'cup cake' in Sranantongo. It is just a nice name. Maduki is a playful font, created with one of my 2 year old son's marker pens (the 'no stain, wash-out' variety), a couple of cups of coffee and a whole bunch of 'speculaas' cookies. Now you're wondering what speculaas is, right? I'll tell you later - in a couple of fonts... Anyway, there's not much meaningful to say about Maduki font. It is nice, it is cute and it comes with alternates!

Mira is a playful, decorative Art Nouveau font, released by Roos & Jung Foundry in Offenbach AM, Germany about 1902. The exaggerated serifs and the sharp contrast between the thick and thin strokes gives the page a whimsical “salt and pepper” look that is very distinctive. Mira uses our new encoding. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, MIRA has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, Western European accented letters, lower case “o” and “u” with Hungarian umlaut and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. Ezekiel Script is the font become flesh—mythic gesture imposed upon forms of mechanical medium. Typography has changed the internet; our phasing mimetic desires tend toward posture rather than rationale, and the face is a concept that explores that concept. Obviously some reading of McLuhan has infliunced this concept of analysis. The script has ample diacritic extensions, as well as an alternative for the ampersand (characteristic of MYSTERIAN type) and the eszette: an upper and lower case. The upper and lower case alphabets are diverse in that the majuscules do not have linking strokes while the miniscules do. This was the first script that I've made, and great attentiveness was taken to ensure that links were set accurately, and spacing harmonious throughout.

Crepe Paper JNL is an alphabet-only novelty font that creates a wavy ribbon headline with a vintage wood type alphabet that somewhat resembles an unfurled stretch of crepe paper. The upper case A-Z keys will produce a white ribbon banner with black letters, while the lower case a-z keys are white letters on a black background. The end caps for the white banner are on the left and right parenthesis keys, while the end caps for the black banner are on the bracket keys. A blank space is located on the period key for the white banner and on the comma key for the black banner. This is a large group of typefaces inspired by those borders and patterns you see going across documents from the Middle Ages and Medieval times, eventually becoming this collection of fonts where you can scroll various repeating patterns across a page, for example. You can get a repeating pattern that scrolls seamlessly by repeating the same letter. The default text displaying on the web-page is bbbbbbbb, for example. There's over 2 dozen basic styles, and each style has 52 designs within it, using the characters Upper Case A - Z and lower case a - z, with the lower case being the negative/reverse colour of the Upper Case version, it will be the corresponding design just reverse coloured and with an edging strip. There's also a space - but nothing else. The styles in these fonts usually have groups of six characters (A to F, G to L, M to R, S to X), and where the second group is a variation on the first - usually thicker lines - and the third grouping is another variation on that, usually thicker lines again, making the first 24 letters. (Sometimes there's three groups of eight characters). The pattern within a group normally starts off plain then gets busier as it progresses - such as there'd be a more complex pattern of circles and diamonds as you go through the letters. Then the letters Y & Z are somewhat different to the rest. There's four versions starting with Z, and they're a little bit different, and they're grouped in fives - getting bolder as you progress through the letters, but with similar patterns within each group of 5, and that makes the first 25 characters. The letter Z character is extra busy. Again, lower case is the reverse colour of the Upper Case. Mostly you can get patterns and borders that combine seamlessly by using letters within the same group of 6 or 8 (like maybe abdcedcb). There are a few occasions when that doesn't work out, because there may be circles or diamonds at the sides of the letters that don't match up with another letter that has a different pattern at the side. But you can create a pattern with the exact level of complexity you want perfectly easily. You can see examples of this in the poster images. Neighbouring letters without embellishments at the sides of the letters will usually fit together. Have fun with it, that's what it's there for. aah yes fonts

Nova Caere is a typical urban calligraphy, gestural with its fast lines, with short and slightly noticeable ascender and descender traits. Condensed lower case and rounded capital letters are quite similar in height. Nova Caere has been studied for alternating upper and lower case inside the words of the text, so as to reinforce their expressive content. Stylistic variations that combine particular couples of letters have been developed, as well as some descender traits have been highlighted that can be employed to characterize words and phrases.

The inspiration for SJURecord was calligraphic lettering used for the title of a student newspaper, St. John’s Record, during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The three upper-case and nine lower-case letters were considerably different from any calligraphic lettering I had developed, so I thought creating a complete typeface around these twelve letters would be an interesting challenge. The SJCRecord family has four members: regular, oblique, shadowed, and oblique shadowed. There are alternate letters for A, J, L, S, V, W, and X.

JetJaneMono is a large family of sans-serif faces which are monospaced. It is very plain (plain=plane=jet). The font family has two widths and three weights, with each upright style paired with an italics style. These twelve fonts are then duplicated with another set in which small caps replace the lower-case letters. The typeface was created in 1994 and in 2021 the condensed widths were added.

Black Bamboo is a beautiful plant. My father in law, who recently passed away, loved it and had a prized specimen growing in his garden. This font was named in his honour. Black Bamboo font is a bold typeface, created using a good brush and quality paint. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and can be freely interchanged. Of course, Black Bamboo comes with all diacritics.

Louise font was based on the art of Louise Marie (lou) Loeber, a Dutch painter. She was born in Amsterdam in 1894 and flirted with several styles like De Stijl, Cubism and Bauhaus. Her artworks are characterized by a sober use of geometric shapes; lines, rectangles and triangles. Louise font consists of Caps, but the lower and upper case glyphs are quite different. Louise comes with extensive language support.

A very distinctive style of font, in a kind of art deco style form the '30s. This font is unique in that there are no open, negative spaces in glyphs such as upper and lower case o, or p, or others which would usually have them. Instead the glyphs are solid. Rotorua is a nice city in the Bay of Plent area of New Zealand. The area is famous for geothermal activity and every year thousands of tourists flock there to see the bubbling hot mud pools and the Pohutu Geyser.
