I used to be a tour guide and I traveled to China numerous times. Usually, the itinerary mentioned going to a restaurant in Beijing and eating ‘Beijing Roast Duck’ (北京烤鸭), a famous dish that has been prepared since the Imperial era. Typically, the whole duck is sliced at your table. The skin is crisp, glazed and thin and you should eat it with thin pancakes and thinly sliced spring onion. Of course, if I had to guide several ‘China tours’ in a row, I would often eat something else (there is only so much Beijing Duck you can eat). Peking Duck is a nice, handmade, Chinese Ink font. Use it for your restaurant menu, your book covers or your posters, advertising oriental food!

Font designed from this who was used by an unknown printer in Lyon (France) to print the “Conte de Griseldis ” (Griseldis' tale), from Petrarque, inspired by Boccace, in 1495. The original font has a relatively small number of special characters and ligature, for the time. This font includes “long s”, naturally, as typicaly medieval but numerous letters - as accented ones - were added for this version. A render sheet, enclosed with the file, helps to identify them on keyboard. This font works at a small size like 9, remaining clear and easy to read on screen, but always better when printed.

Apocalypso is a pictogram font for the end of the world. The name Apocalypso is a portmanteau of the words apocalypse (end of the world) and calypso (joyful improvised music), with a meaning analogous to the idiom ‘fiddling while Rome burns’. The Apocalypso family is more of an art project than a practical font and contains a series of crosses and pictograms. The crosses add decorative detailing to typographic layouts, whilst the pictograms can be deployed to express the forthcoming apocalypse. Apocalypso was originally published in 1997, a few years before the turn of the millennium. Some time ago I stumbled upon a little book called 'De Sprookjeshoorn' ('Horn of Fairy Tales') by Anton Eijkens (1920 - 2012). It was published in 1946 and contains several authentic and unique fairy tales - unfortunately unreadable to modern children, as the language used is out of date. What caught my eye was the handwritten font on the cover of the booklet. Closet Skeleton is a fairytale font inspired by the one I found on the cover of De Sprookjeshoorn. It comes with several curly alternates and some end-ligatures as well. I added an 'old fashioned' ampersand and a modern one, so you can choose which one to use. Apart from that, Closet Skeleton comes with a closet choc-a-block full of diacritics.

Albion's Americana is a fun display family and a tribute to our transatlantic friends. The stars and stripes motif is applied to an American inspired all capitals Roman display face, producing something that is bold and boisterous and well...American. The regular face is intended for conventional use, while the 'Black', 'Red', 'White' and 'Blue' faces are designed to facilitate patriotic multi-coloured lettering (of course, you can use other colours as well). It's worth trying out different combinations here- Black and White alone work well, as does read, white and blue minus black. This family was inspired by the edition De Civitate Dei (by Sanctus Augustinus) printed in 1467 in Sobiano (Italy, Roma) by Konrad Sweynheym and Arnold Pannartz who was the Punchcutter. It is one of the first few “Roman style” fonts, just before the birth of Jenson’s pattern (look at 1470 Jenson Latin). The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and ligatures used in the original (about 54). Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing. Decorated letters such as 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian, or 1584 Rinceau can be used with this family without anachronism. If Italic style is required (not yet existing in early time of printing), we recommend using 1557 Italique.

The Parliament typeface was designed by Jonathan Hoefler beginning in 1995. A burlesque typeface in the Regency Blackletter style, Parliament was inspired by the ‘Four-line Pica Black No. 1’ typeface of William Caslon Jr (1821), whose enigmatic design for the letters E, G, I, N, V and Y hinted at a broader ambition to modernize the arcane shapes of the gothic alphabet’s capital letters. Parliament completes this project for the first time by including two sets of alphabets, one archaic and one modern, along with a third set of ‘small caps’ that restores to the blackletter the versatility of Roman type. This time I touched another classic manuscript for my font. The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript probably produced around the years 715–720 in the monastery at Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland. It’s the work of a monk named Eadfrith. He was a highly trained calligrapher, and he used insular majuscule script in the manuscript. Wisdom Teeth is the fifth typeface released by DM Founts. It's a modern and personal take on the original Baby Teeth font by Milton Glaser, and inspired by the lettering used for the Pac-Man series of games (and its clones). This typeface was around 25 years in the making, and was made in response to the large number of hideously bad clones of Baby Teeth circulating around the Internet. Version 1.0 Included in Version 1.0 are a number of accent characters, and alternate characters for A and Y, along with the usual ASCII characters. For the time being this is an all caps typeface. Nono is the nickname of my oldest son, Konstantin. His little brother could not really speak yet, but he was always looking for him and said something to the tune of, "wea is a nono". From that time on I call Konstantin Nono. I designed a handwritten script with his real name, that i named Konstantin. Now I made this slick version of that script – hence – Nono!
