This font came to be when I was creating a cake topper mockup (see the promo images) and didn't have a thick script font that I liked for it. So I got to work writing out some fun chunky cursive letters that could top a cake! The concept of breaking bread is an old one, often meaning two parties working together. In the Breaking Bread font, I've combined that heavy connecting script with a hand-lettered sans-serif uppercase set. It works in all lowercase, all uppercase, and title case with equal ease! I've also included a number of alternates and ligatures, so you can have a truly hand-written look when double-letter words show up, plus a few extra characters and swashes to add some pizzazz to your work. I have redesigned the uppercase “S” to mach the lowercase, tweaked a little here and there - and completely redesigned all the diacritics (which didn't really match the letter designs). Nick Curtis says: "The inspiration for this font came from a poster for an Austrian trade show from the 1920s, credited simply to Wasserman." The idea for this completely new font design with overlapping characters came when Axel Stoltenberg, longtime IKARUS program developer at URW + +, visited a restaurant. As it can be seen quite often , the daily specials were offered handwritten with chalk on a blackboard applying a writing technique never been available before for digital fonts: each character is partly covered by its predecessor creating a three-dimensional effect. The implementation of this unusual notation for digital setting required a lot of programming and testing until all necessary character variants were produced and set properly always using the correct form. In order to achieve this, the OpenType Pro font ThreeDee contains about 12,400 characters and all the necessary OpenType features (GSUB ) for the automatic setting in OTF savvy application programs. The slightly playful basic design for ThreeDee was created by Anna Stoltenberg , the daughter of Axel, specially devised for the innovative representation and support of its special nature. ITC Astro is the typeface that proves you can get your work done while watching cartoons. “It all started as a series of doodles while I was watching The Jetsons,” recalls Sasa Petricic. “The show's impossibly simplistic vision of the twenty-first century cried out for a font that fit into that world -- a world where everyday objects can carry far more fun and personality than they should.” ITC Astro is the first commercial typeface design from Petricic, whose “day job” is working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The angular caps dance jauntily, rocking from left to right, while a suite of companion small caps provide backup. Originally published by OurType, Dan Milne’s Tasman has found a new home at Retype. Milne first conceived Tasman as a typeface for newspapers. This influenced the proportions and look of the face considerably: the goal was to keep the personality as warm and playful as possible without losing the credible tone required to deliver all kinds of news. A sturdy, warm type family that is neither mechanical nor fragile. It borrows its name from Abel Janszoon Tasman (1603–1659), a Dutch seafarer, explorer, and merchant who mapped parts of Australia in 1642, including Van Diemen’s Land (now known as Tasmania). Tasman’s primary purpose is an unbiased presentation of information; it strives for neutrality over elegance. Its characters are sturdy and unambiguous, sporting strong serifs, punctuation, and diacritics, as well as generously sized small caps and hybrid figures. Rationalized letterforms give the face enough robustness to withstand the stress of screen applications and laser printing. The figures’ three-quarter x-height makes them considerably larger than traditional oldstyle numerals, yet they still integrate with the lowercase much better than lining figures do. Although initially intended for newspapers, Tasman’s somewhat corporate, objective appearance also makes it an excellent candidate for digital and print magazines, websites, annual reports, and corporate identities. Royal Crescent is an all caps display sans with an emphasis on elegance and simplicity. The uniform width is consistent throughout creating low contrast in all three weights. There are slight variations, between a few upper and lowercase characters which can be used interchangeably. Titling was its primary purpose but will prove useful in a variety of situations. Arx by Superfried is an elegant and intricate display typeface designed for use at large scale. Its Latin name - meaning citadel - connects with the classical features, whilst the phonetic pronunciation nods to the arcs which characterise each glyph. Ryno Slab is a superslab that was born out of a need for an aggressive, heavy, geometric display face that did not appear clunky. Its serifs are so thick, you could create reasonably legible word shapes by using all caps and masking the words out. Ryno Slab’s tough geometric exterior and squarish forms make it suitable for tight setting in posters, t-shirts, and artwork. Also, an extended character set with support for European languages make Ryno Slab a good fit for magazine headlines.

Whittington is a revival of a congenial ‘modern’ typeface of the mid nineteenth century, unassuming and businesslike with an even colour that reads comfortably over long stretches. It is intended primarily for use in running text. Whittington provides wide support for west, central, and east European languages that use the roman alphabet. Among its OpenType features are ligatures, small caps, several sets of numerals, contextual alternates, intelligent implementation of long ‘s’, and fractions. I love cheese snacks in all kinds of variations. As a kid I even loved having chessy fingers, but as an adult I prefer to wash my hands (instead of licking and sucking each finger "clean") So, as a loving memory of an all time favourite snack, I made this all caps organic looking sans. Obviously handmade, and cleaned up digitally...just a little bit. Furthermore I have made 5 different versions of each letter and made sure that there is plenty of multilingual support!

Afrojet Type Foundry presents Sessions, a heavyweight modular typeface with a quirky personality. The design is a fresh reimagination of Joseph Albers' classic Kombinationsschrift alphabet. It utilizes modular, repeating stylized forms to bring dimensionality and personality to the page. Sessions takes advantage of OpenType’s Stylistic Alternates feature with: two numeral options (cap-height and x-height), the option to ‘turn off’ the splayed bottoms of certain glyphs, and numerous alternate characters. All together, these options allow you the designer to create unique and custom designs.

Curve is a modern neo-classical typeface family with some features of the Didone genre, but especially designed for contemporary typography. A large x-height not only creates space in the letters for extra-bold styles, but also lends Curve an open and generous character in the more narrow and semi-bold versions. It has 616 glyphs with small caps, numbers and ligatures in 10 weights. Curve is a contemporary serif typeface, special for logos, brands, magazines and editorial and for setting trends in fashion and design.

Rosales integrates humanist style with geometry in a typography highly inspired by calligraphy. It has eight weights in round and italic variants, which also have a set of initial capital letters, small caps, Oldstyle and Lining figures, as well as two stylistic sets that allow for more humanist or more geometric versions. Basically, it covers whatever you’re going to need. The family’s extreme weights were designed for titles, while the intermediate weights are for texts. The first ones are perfect for displays and logos.

Our Marcellus Pro was inspired by classic Roman inscription letterforms. Clarity and beauty are embodied in the standard lowercase, while this historically influenced typeface also nods to the powerful presence of the Trajan titling style with its SmallCaps set.
