Initially commissioned in the summer of 2009 for a popular North American ice cream parlor chain we cannot name, Tuba started with a reconceptualization of a somewhat flawed '72 alphabet idea by Swiss graphic designer Erwin Poell. During the back-and-forth of the custom project, other ideas seeped into the design, mostly from other Canada Type fonts, like Fab, Jonah, Jojo and Teaspoon. The end result was what the client called a "sugar circuit trigger alphabet". This now is the retail version of that project. Tuba's main style is a straight-forward mix of 60s/70s art nouveau ideas and late-70s/early-80s tube aesthetic. The Highlight and Outline styles are almost necessary spinoffs for this kind of typeface. And the all-caps Black style is a nod to the fat font fad of the past couple of years. Eurostile® is one of the most important designs from the Italian font designer Aldo Novarese. It was originally produced in 1962 by the Nebiolo foundry as a more complete version of the earlier Microgramma, a caps-only font designed by Novarese and A. Butti. Eurostile reflects the flavor and spirit of the 1950s and 1960s. It has big, squarish shapes with rounded corners that look like television sets from that era. Eurostile has sustained the ability to give text a dynamic, technological aura. It works well for headlines and small bodies of text. The Eurostile font family has 11 weights, from roman to bold and condensed to extended. In 2009 Linotype released a revised version in the Platinum Collection under the name , with three weights in all three different styles. Witch Hazel has been quite a while in the making; a fun font with slightly flared serifs, lots of ligatures and alternates, and over 1150 glyphs! This font is great for holiday designs, from Valentine's Day to Halloween to Christmas! Internacional, inspired by the International Style, is a Latin American-flavored neo-grotesque sans serif typeface made with organic ingredients and sweetened with organic sugar and chocolate. Ocean Beach is a fun, retro, all-caps Nautical Art Deco headline font. It sports geometric letterforms, perfect circles and highly stylized crossbars with waves on several letters—think the beach, flags rippling in the breeze and Fred and Ginger tap-dancing merrily on the deck of a ship! The inspiration for this font are the many whimsical nautical-themed buildings still to be found dotting the landscapes of America, from South Beach in Miami to hidden gems tucked away in industrial areas of southern California. I was fascinated by some of them when I was growing up, and in doing research on Art Deco styles I found many images of these wonderful buildings sporting portholes, streamlined moderne details and even faux rivets. Ocean Beach is created with a 3-stroke detail, and the complexity of the design will be appreciated better in larger sizes of type (36 pts or larger). Use this font for any application that needs a bold, decorative or Art Deco look; great for signage, magazine layout, illustration, posters and packaging.

Melodi is the result of years of working with hand made types on my designs. Every time I draw the letters and words that I need for every design piece. One day I decided to go serious and make a real type of it and “Melodi” is the result of this work. It’s a calligraphic font, built using a regular stroke, and carefully crafted to have nice joins between all the letters. It has some playful but stylish capitals that brings lot of personality to the font. It work super nice either in lowercase writing as in all-caps texts. It looks specially good on lists of words or small sentences. Melodi is a playful but very versatile font, it can be used in lots of different scenarios. From creating a logo, writing the tittles of a catalogue or use it in a poster combined with other types (it work really well as counter point of more classical types) to motion graphics animations or advertising work. It can be cute but it also can do hard work!

Sporting pot-hook serifs and a tiny aperture, the Scotch Modern was an evolution of the Didone and Scotch Roman classifications, becoming the default type genre of the 19th century. Recontextualizing the 10-point type of a scientific report published in 1873, Nick Shinn has produced sleekly refined, micro-detailed vector drawings by eye, without the assistance of scans, of this magnificent classic. A beautiful genre of type, so popular in books, magazines and advertisements during the Victorian era and much of the 20th century, the Scotch Modern was derided by advocates of both the Arts & Crafts movement and 20th century modernists, and was never been properly adapted to hot metal, phototype, or digital media -- until now. Now the full range of typographic expression is possible in this style. The OpenType fonts support Western and CE encodings, Cyrillic (with Bulgarian alternates) and Polytonic Greek. This design incorporates different styles into a consistent look. A pinch of script, a little of geometric and some humanistic shapes as well create a very distinguishable sans-serif. It has an overall good feeling specially on the heavier weights that have intended contrast irregularities to create a 'cartoonish' look. On the intermediate weights the design will preform well on small font sizes because of its large counters, low contrast and large x-height, but as you go to the extremes you will see shapes full of personality that will pop out in large font sizes. The font is loaded with opentype features such as small caps, ligatures, alternates, old style figures, and much more. The italic version is deeply rooted in the calligraphic heritage of the Italics. This way the brush inspired strokes are emphasized as well as an overall calligraphic look. Far from being a mere slant, Mangerica Italic had every lowercase glyph redesigned as well as some uppercase, besides that, every glyph was optically adjusted to ensure not only aesthetics but functionality too.

‘Skiart Serif Subtle’ is now available online. Originally inspired by the san serif font ‘Skia’ by Mathew Carter for Apple. ‘Skiart’ was designed to feel more like a serifed font, but without any serifs. It took a step between sans serif and serif fonts. Next on the path towards a serif font came Skiart Serif Mini, with tiny serifs added. This was a true serif font, all be it on the small side. Skiart Serif Subtle is less of a serif than Skiart Serif Mini, in that it doesn’t have actual 'serifs' as such. It has a subtle flare where a serif might normally be found. It remains fully readable and feels as clean and normal as any of the best body copy serifs, and yet still has the strong solid bones of all the other Skiart font families. If compared to one of the more commonly used serifs like ‘Times New Roman’, the ‘Skiart Serif Subtle’ lowercase is more open with a taller x-height, increasing its readability and friendliness. The serifs are smaller and less distracting. They are not pretending to be ligatures. Where ‘Times’ makes its p q b d forms out of a barely touching oval and stem, the ‘Serif Subtle’ forms are much more firmly attached, appearing clearly as single letters. The standard setting for the a’s and g’s are round single story, feeling warmer and more inviting in the ‘Serif Mini’ font. Much more friendly than the stuffy double-storied versions in fonts such as ‘Times’ etc.

Barberry is a hand-made brush script typeface equipped with some decorative OTF features, made by Zakhar Yaschin (FontaZY). Barberry font contains stylistic alternates, initial and final alternates (which is duplicated by contextual alternates in the case when ini & fina are not supported), ligatures, titling alternates, small caps and large collection of swashes (additional variants - in Stylistic Set). The Barberry font is essential for hand-made lettering and design. The Barberry family also includes Barberry Vigniette font with over 200 icons and vigniettes in it. Barberry Letters supports most of Western languages (including Central Europian, Baltic and Eastern European languages) and also Cyrillic. Each lowercase letter has three positional versions of the design – basic (if the letter is in the middle of a word), initial (if the word starts with it) and the final (in the end of the word) that makes the set look more alive and expressive. Working with Barberry Letters you can enable and disable if needed such typographic tools as swashes, ligatures, small caps, titling alternates, stylistic alternates, additional swashes and the already mentioned initial and final alternates. Decadent, baroque and refined. Sinuous curves, ornate swashes and alternates that can be customized to suit your burlesque ball, bodice-ripping romance novel or high-fashion label. The “Swash” version includes swash capitals that can be toggled on or off using the ‘swash’ option in Adobe apps. Amongst some pages scanned and posted online of old wood type alphabets comes this lovely, ornamental design in a reversed style of white lettering on black rectangular boxes. Coffinated features letters on coffin shapes. This caps-only family has two sets of characters, with one on coffins that are flipped from those in the other set. The OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt) prevents two characters from the same set being adjacent. The two styles, bold and regular, can be used in layers to add color. There are not a lot of uses for macabre lettering (horror? Halloween?) but Coffinated is available for those who do find a use.

Inspired by the iconic modernist letterforms in the poster for Stephen Sondheim's 1972 musical Company, Another Hundred People is a gleeful set of solid geometric glyphs — as though a set of Colorforms decided to express itself in words.
