Mark van Bronkhorst designed MVB Celestia Antiqua at a time when font choice was limited. Design was characterized by overuse of the few fonts that came with laser printers. A rustic typeface, recalling the roughness and irregularity of pre-digital printing, was a response to the cold crispness of DTP. MVB Celestia Antiqua holds its own among a large group of other “weathered” serif fonts, in part due to the size of the family: three weights, small caps, italics, and two titling styles. But it's also successful because it's simply drawn well, the contours only as rough as they need to be, enabling text at any size, large or small.

Always intrigued by Bodoni's original work, I was set out—back in 2000—to examine his work and study Manuale Tipografico, one of the greatest specimen books ever printed. Issued in 1818 at Parma, Italy by Bodoni's widow, the two-volume work shows an impressive array of 142 roman alphabets and some foreign ones such as Greek and Cyrillic. After a careful examination of all characters, I decided to create a typeface based on the distinct script capitals presented in the book. Matching lowercase italics were later selected and designed to complete the series. Since my intention was not to create simply a digital version of Bodoni's work, this typeface was designed with connected characters and capitals with extra calligraphic elements. The result was released in 2002 and published in our award-winning catalog/book IDEA/Trendsetting Typography vol.1. Later in 2005 we revived a large number of ornaments and borders (credit goes to designer George Lygas). All this work was left behind till recently when it was revisited to create a complete 'Pro' family. Several new uppercase and lowercase glyphs were designed in order to create a distinct typeface, which is based on Bodoni but yet it stands out on its own. The new version also takes care of conflicts between neigbouring letters, something that was not included in the first version. Bodoni Script Pro is a 3-weight superfamily. It supports 10 special opentype features including 'contextual alternates' as well as support for both Latin and Greek. Each font comes with 725 glyphs including a large number of alternates as well as 144 ornaments. Furthermore, when you purchase the whole package you get a bonus font which contains 120 frame parts. Choriza is a multilayered font and a kind of spicy spanish sausage. With three layers you can colour any salami, salchichen, sausage, wurst or pudding. Chorizo also means burglar in spanish, so it's some sort of typographical joke about the today's spanish politicians. It comes with Choriza Sans, with its cutted ends to make a sans serif version.

P22 Salon was originally inspired by Art Nouveau lettering. In the development of the three fonts (P22 Salon Full, P22 Salon Inner and P22 Salon Shadow) they began taking on a slightly more modern feel. All three variations were designed to be completely interchangeable with one another, and can be layered to achieve a variety of effects.

Baby Fat, designed by Milton Glaser in 1964, saw a lot of action during the psychedelic poster phase. This little dumpling is based on that workhorse, and takes its name from a phrase that also got around a lot in the 60s. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

For decades, Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” was a source of inspiration for sign painters, graphic artists and designers. In later years, many digital revivals of Welo’s hand lettered typography have been made available. Karlisbad is a monospaced font in which lines expand and contract to form letters. The No-Lines styles can be used alone but it was their use in layers that inspired their creation.
