The Wright-Regan Instrument Company (Wrico) was one of the leading manufacturers of lettering templates for many years. Aside from their own line of products, they also did custom manufacturing. A series of lettering guides called “Mimeostyle” for the A. B. Dick Company of Chicago (produced for use in making mimeograph machine printing stencils) featured an art Deco squared letter design with rounded corners. This is now available digitally as Template Sans JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

This modernized rustic Baroque Roman face paraphrases freely its model from the first half of the 18th century. The shape of the letters has been cleared from all unevenness and softness, but has retained its lively expression. It is deliberately rather cooler than the reverently digitized Baroque Roman type faces, since it was necessary to adjust it with regard to the visual experience of the contemporary reader. In addition, it has bold designs and aligning figures, which also considerably extends the range of its application. It is an entirely reliable text type face for the most demanding extensive works. Thanks to its calm expression and excellent legibility it is widely used when printing series of professional literature.

I love cheese snacks in all kinds of variations. As a kid I even loved having chessy fingers, but as an adult I prefer to wash my hands (instead of licking and sucking each finger "clean") So, as a loving memory of an all time favourite snack, I made this all caps organic looking sans. Obviously handmade, and cleaned up digitally...just a little bit. Furthermore I have made 5 different versions of each letter and made sure that there is plenty of multilingual support!

SK Selanik is a double weight geometric sans serif font family. It is named after Thessaloniki, one of the largest cities in Greece. I was listening to an Opeth album called Blackwater Park. By the time I had decided that this font needed some swirls, the band was playing a song called The Drapery Falls - which has the word ‘spiraling’ in it (see poster 2) - and the name was born. Spiraling down is a surprisingly elegant font (given its roughness). I probably wouldn’t set a whole text in it, but it will really stand out as a titling font for packaging or book covers.

Asturias is a contemporary take on script fonts. Its characters are wider than most scripts, and the letterforms are somewhat geometric, giving it a modern and refined feel. Who doesn't love Fridays? For many people it is the end of the working week and the start of the weekend. What's not to like? I tried to put all that great vibe into this font - it is charming and clumsy and ready for a party...just like my Fridays...ehh...my Fridays are actually quite simple - no parties or staying out till early morning...been there, did that...now I love my Fridays, just the way they are! :)

Bisco Condensed is a small capital design inspired by hand lettered memorial wall art from the Harlem section of New York City. As a memorial, this design is dedicated to a type design colleague who lost his long battle with cancer. This font is a tribute to his strength and his liveliness. The original idea for Bisco Condensed was to capture the energy of those unique "streetforms" in a text/display design and encapsulate them into a lively & fluid type design with a high level of readability at all point sizes. Bisco Condensed is an excellent type for expressive display layouts. Ragnar can be called a typeface for compact typography. It is loosely related to the Saga typeface in many ways, even including its name. During discussing on what Saga should be called, the name "Ragnarök" (Twilight of the Gods) was humorously suggested. "Ragnarök" would of course have been unsuitable, since it uses a letter with a diacritic sign, and in many computer systems, that is a deadly sin. But the shorter form, Ragnar, was kept in mind, and later used for this typeface. Additionally, Ragnar is a common male Scandinavian name.

Slabserif Grotesk JNL was modeled from an example of a wood type design called Antique Light Face, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The numerals (although an odd fit to the overall design) make this vintage font quite unusual and charming.

In the 1909 edition of the Atkinson Sign Painters’ instruction books is an extra bold sans serif alphabet and numerals called “Advertisers’ Thick and Thin Plug”. This hand lettered display face is now available digitally as Sign Lettering JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Here's a page from the Page Company, circa 1850, originally called Doric. This version is reasonably faithful to the original, but streamlined for better reporduction at a variety of sizes. Both versions support the Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

This typeface family was inspired by a set of fonts, designed in the Garamond style, used for an edition of Remarques critiques sur les œuvres d’Horace by “D.A.E.P.”, published in Paris in 1689 by two different booksellers: Deny Thierry and Claude Barbin. We can see some differences in comparison with our “pure” Garamond (see our 1592 GLC Garamond), particularly in the lowercase of the Normal style and the uppercase of the Italic. Unfortunately, we know neither the name of the punchcutter, nor that of the printer. This complete font set contains small caps, fractions all the way up to 1999/1999, historical and standard ligatures, and all of the fleurons contained in the edition (Normal style only). The alphabet covers all Western, Eastern and Central European languages (including Celtic diacritics) and Turkish.

When drawing a new font, there is a time when the final form is found – almost – but the curves are not slick and clean yet, that's what I call the "raw" form. Raw – no sweeteners added! In this family I tried to redefine this moment in type development for the eternally beautiful "Franklin Gothic". I call the design "Franklin Gothic Raw", not to be confounded with "rough". The family can be used like any good normal typeface, you hardly see any difference to a conventionally cut "Franklin Gothic" in small sizes. The charm of the design becomes obvious the bigger it becomes, then it enhances your design with its imperfections in the outline. "Franklin Gothic Raw" is therefore an extremely versatile family. I created the cuts, that I considered necessary for the seasoned designer who knows what he's doing. Enjoy!

I came across an old book called ‘Studio Handbook Letter And Design For Artists And Advertisers’ by Samuel Welo. Samuel Welo was an American advertising calligrapher, typographer and lettering artist, who was most active during the roaring twenties. Lenox Avenue is my version of a set of letters in that book. It was handmade (just like Welo had done). I only had an ABC/abc to work with, so I designed all the remaining glyphs myself. I changed some of the original (and quite quirky) letters to a more contemporary form. The font is named Lenox Avenue, once home of the famous Savoy Ballroom. Comes with all the bells & whistles.

The typeface Weiner Grotesk, designed by Rudolf Geyer for the H. Berthold AG foundry of Berlin in 1912, provides the pattern for this classic Jugendstil font.
