VLNL Boulangerie was originally an incomplete set of early 20th century wood type letters, that Donald Roos found in a dust covered carton box stashed away somewhere at the Royal Academy in The Hague. Charmed by the letter forms Donald decided to print them on paper with a printing press. Next he digitised the prints as they came out, including small imperfections and damages. The missing characters were composed and added digitally to complete the alphabet. (See if you can spot those!?) We think VLNL Boulangerie is a little French in appearance (hence the name), it's joyful, warm, a little crunchy and round-ish. It defenitely has that ‘je-ne-sais-quoi’ that seperates it from most wood type grotesques. It can be perfect for lettering on a storefront window of – let's say a bread shop or a lunchroom. Or a logo for a downtown hipster café. VLNL Boulangerie hardly has any limitations actually.

• Algarabía "Joy" is a provocative and multilingual text face designed by Leonardo Vázquez. • It was created for a mexican magazine with the same name that uses it as the body text font, and now it's released for the public. • In 1397, Frederic Goudy's was asked to draw a face for the exclusive use of the University of California Press at Berkeley. The font was called California. In 1983 a digital version of this typeface was created by Aaron Burns and it was called ITC Berkeley. • Algarabía is inspired by ITC Berkeley, it keeps the calligraphic touch and weight, but it presents certain features in its design that might result unexpected, yet at the same time they are invisible when used as body text and provides the typeface its unique own personality. • Small Caps and Small caps italic, Included in each version. • Ideal for magazines, Art books or any editorial purposes where legibility and originality are needed.

Before ink jet and laser printers; before copy machines, the main way to make multiples of anything not provided by printing press was by a mimeograph machine or spirit duplicator. The mimeograph utilized a porous drum which inked the backside of a waxed stencil sheet. Unlike traditional stencils which have cut out areas that are directly inked or painted, a mimeo stencil has the area to be printed scratched away by removing the wax coating with a stylus. The resulting image allows the ink from the drum to seep through the sheet and transfer to the blank paper. Based on a plastic lettering guide once manufactured by the A.B. Dick Company of Chicago, Mimeograph Template JNL is available in regular and oblique versions. Albert Blake Dick, the company’s founder, coined the term ‘mimeography’. The font’s character shapes follow the routed letters of the template, complete with rounded terminals. An earlier font release [designed with flat terminals and some alternate characters] is available as Interoffice Memo JNL.

Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal. It occurred to me that typefaces like Helvetica and Univers seemed to have a higher quality in hot-metal composition as with modern digital typesetting. They are stronger and livelier. This is in part due to the printing process, which presses the characters onto paper, and in part to the forms of the letters, which differ from the PostScript version of the same typeface. An important aspect of printing is the slight increase in character width resulting from the pressure which also serves as an optical correction to the forms. (True exact squares appear slightly barrel-formed to the eye.) I wanted to revive this peculiarity, not because of a nostalgic feeling, rather just because it is more attractive." The result is Linotype Projekt, a text font which is harmonious, clear and extremely legible. Koch lives in Bielefeld, Germany, and is a freelance book and type designer."

This typeface appeared in the William H. Page Woodtype specimen book as Gothic Tuscan Condensed Reversed—quite a mouthful. Banner elements appear in the brace and bracket positions, and reversed spaces can be found in the underscore and bar positions. This engaging headline face is based on a rather pudgy typeface named “Bullion Shadow”, which was originally released somewhere on the cusp between the hippie and disco eras, and was equally at home in both. Now available in shaded and plain. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

Coverack was inspired by some hand lettering spotted by Dave Nalle on a pub menu blackboard during a recent trip to England. It's in the tradition of Celtic uncial lettering, but is extra bold and has some fantastical embellishments. The name comes from a lovely little town on the Cornish coast where the designer stayed during the trip.

With an obvious nod to Art Deco, this font offers a stylish design with distinctively elongated ascenders and descenders. Includes: Western European, Central European, Baltic & Turkish sets. Due to the modular nature of this design there may be a slight lack of smoothness to the curves at very large point sizes (around 100 pt and above).

Subtly distressed Pacifico and Pacifico Alternate use the OpenType ligature feature to substitute unique glyphs when any upper or lower case character is keyed twice in a row. Pacifico Shadow font can be used with Pacifico to color the drop shadow separately. Pacifico Pro extends the character set to support Eastern European Latin, Baltic, Greek and Turkish.

Uniwerek is a hand drawn font, inspired by college and university sportswear. One of the earliest fonts published by Canada Type was Almanac, Phil Rutter's digitization of Imre Reiner's 1957 calligraphic typeface, London Script. In 2007, when the font was revisited for an update, it was shown that it too light for applications under 24 pt, and too irregular for applications over 64 pt. So the face was redigitized from scratch, using larger originals. This new digitization maintains a soft contour and, slightly darker and steadier stroke, and much better outlines for use at both extremes of scaling. Language support was also greatly expanded, and many alternates and ligatures were added to the redigitized character set. The name was also changed to Reiner Hand, to better reflect the origins of the design. Reiner Hand is soft and irregular jolts from a calligraphy master's hand. In a very Reineresque fashion, most characters include the one finishing stroke that makes professional calligraphers pause and ponder this additional touch to a letter's personality. Reiner Hand comes in all popular formats. The TrueType and PostScript versions come with 2 fonts, one of them loaded with alternates and ligatures. People are always asking us for chiseled-stone style fonts, so we thought we'd give them what they want, but with a slightly different spin. Stonecross has the look of classic Celtic uncial lettering as it would look if it was cut in stone, with some fanciful variant character forms and the nicks and chips which give it the look of stone.

This font was inspired from the so called "Insular Style" Latin script used in Celtic monasteries (Ireland, Scotland—with the well known Book of Kells—and England) from the late 6th to 9th, before the Carolingian "Caroline" (look at our 825 Karolus). It was a regular script, rounded, written slowly, used mainly for specially meticulous books, with a very few ligatures. The rarely-used capitals consisted of enlarged lowercases, but, on the other hand, there was numerous historical initials. The Titling style in this familly allows to two-color decorated letters to be created, using OTF Titling feature or copy and paste technique. We have created the font as to be adapted for contemporary users, differentiating between U and V, I and J, which has not any relevance for ancient Latin scribes, and naturally with Thorn, Oslash, Lslash, K,W... The specific Celtic "y" is added as an historical alternate.

Two years ago I went on a camping holiday in England with my wife and (then two) small children. The first stop was a nature campsite near the village of Bodiam in East Sussex. My son wanted to see a real castle, so I figured Bodiam Castle was the 'realest' of them all! He loved it, as the castle had a moat, crenellated walls, a bunch of towers and a guy dressed up as a knight. Bodiam font is a rough didone-ish affair. It is all caps, but you can freely mix upper and lower case. It would be ideal for book covers, posters and maybe even for castles. Comes with a treasure chest of diacritics.

Applbitz is a set of three pixel style fonts which include a matching set of food related pix fonts. The regular style is a text font, which is optimal at 14 points when used in flash. Applbitz Pix Base and Pix Top are corresponding food related glyphs, with the top providing a bit of detail. These "friendly" pix characters can also be used in flash using some TLC (and snap to pixel grid). They are fun to add your own color combinations, and are great for a variety of food icons.
