Kevlar was initially inspired by an obscure logo discovered in a 1960s radio-fan magazine. Of immediate interest was that the upper half of the typeface appeared to be a sans while the lower half appeared as a curious blend of a slab serif imbued with a script-like quality. First came Kevlar Bold in 2003, closely followed by its text weight companion Kevlar Regular. The original source of the inspiration as then revisited to develop the third in the set, Kevlar Slab, a truly individual mix of script-like fluency with the heavy weight base of a slab serif.

Naming this typeface Troika, the Russian word meaning "group of three", seemed apt because the starting point in this design process was a three sided letter 'O'. This triangular type styling became a template guide for the rest of the character set. Troika is a highly distinctive, ultra modern typeface with idiosyncratic letterforms that make for striking headlines, particularly at large display sizes. Challenging, futuristic and experimental, always unique, and with caps as characterful as the lower case. Troika being derived from the French 'Triangle' and the Latin 'Triangulus' it seemed only fitting to design three weights: Light, Medium & Bold.

Born into a world of serif fonts, where beautiful styling and script-like italics abound, Alexandar has neither. His appearance is, dare we say it, Spartan. 'Obvia' appeared as a result of direct observation on typefaces classified as geometric and the plan to explore for the first time width axes Condensed, Narrow (soon), Normal and new Wide and Expanded. The idea behind 'Obvia's design was to create a distancing from geometrically pure shapes, in this case, square shapes. Then some details were added, such as subtle inktraps, concave endings of the stems and carefully drawn alternate characters, giving a 'geohumanist' tone to the font. Paestum is a Latin typeface inspired by Greek inscriptions of the 6th and 5th centuries B.C. Its name comes, suitably, from the Latin name for Poseidonia, a former Greek city south of Naples whose two remaining Doric temples have been on antiquities tours since at least the 1700s. Others have scanned this terrain before, of course, but earlier designs failed to supply a lower case. Although Paestum includes complete upper- and lowercase alphabets, diacritics, numerals, and essential punctuation, it does not have many unhistorical glyphs -- such as currency symbols and the @ sign. Paestum comes with three weights: light, medium, and heavy.

Informal does not have to mean aggressively modern or casual. Helenium is inspired by some hand drawn capitals that I found added to a 19th century map. It's a great font for informal titles and headings that still keep an air or regularity and ever so slightly period elegance. It manages to be formal and casual all at once, as well as classical and modern. Helenium's range of different weights and drop shadow effects make it useful for hierarchical titles and headings. Helenium miniscule adds greater flexibility by extending the family with a fun range of rounded lower case forms.

Drop Caps happen. They started off life as decorated initials way back when in the days of illuminated manuscripts. Then printing came and they became the work of the rubricators and then somewhere soon after printing began, at least by the 1490’s, they were printed directly into the text. This then is a collection of over a hundred glyphs from that closing decade of the Incunabula period. All of them are based on examples found in the works printed by Michael Wenssler in Basel. This font also contains a few useful pointing hands and a set of spacing characters.

Medina Gothic is a three-weight sans serif inspired by Latin American moderne. It was designed in response to the 2002, Altos de Chavon design conference in The Dominican Republic, which celebrated utilitarian driven gestures in graphic design. Dimensions is redesigned font family based on Blackout font released as free font in 2005. The original blackout has been used especially for company or brand logo of fashion and music label in the world. In 2011, Blackout had evolved into this Dimensions font family of seven weights with roman and italics. They are one of the most condensed, black and skinny font in the world. All weights and italics have upper and lower cases, accented characters and small capital glyphs that can be used with OpenType smcp feature. There is high contrast version called Speedometer.

I came across an article in which the author warned about the growing pile of technojunk. It appears we throw away 50 million tonnes of unwanted gadgets EVERY YEAR - and, yes, that number is growing as these are the figures for 2012. 50 million tonnes - just think of that! The new font I was working on had a squarish look - almost computer like, so I decided to call it technojunk. Hopefully you won't throw it away… Technojunk is a 3D font, every glyph was drawn by hand. It is fat, fun and very useful. Try it out!

Some unusual hand lettering was found on the cover of the 1924 edition of a Spanish language novel by Joaquin Belda entitled “La Hora del Abandono” ("The Time of Abandonment"). The title was created as all lower case characters in a semi-serif style reflecting the dawn of the Art Deco movement. A new set of capital letters was created for this digital revival, along with the numbers, punctuation and other necessary glyphs. Mantequilla JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. For those unfamiliar with the Spanish language, Mantequilla (pronounced mon-tay-key-yuh) means butter.

The inspiration for Jeeves came from Leslie Carbarga's wonderful book LETTERHEADS, One Hundred Years of Great Design, 1850-1950. It was based on a secondary type usage for the letterhead for Sutherland in New York. The rest of the letterhead had features that were more typical of the Art Deco period, but this script added a touch of timeless elegance. And since at the time I was reading every scrap of P.G. Wodehouse I could get my hands on, the name Jeeves seemed like a perfect fit. The font is loaded with a plethora of extra glyphs, ligature characters and OpenType features.
