I am a firm believer in the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, for the last 10 years (ever since I became a father), I have been serving my family a healthy breakfast. I live in The Netherlands, so the main portion of breakfast is bread, but I try to serve something ‘nice’ every day. Like strawberries, yoghurt with banana and brown sugar (not too much sugar!), oatmeal porridge or granola. I myself like Indonesian fried rice (nasi goreng) for breakfast, but I am afraid my kids won’t eat that in the morning… Power Breakfast is a handmade display font. Yes, it is wobbly, yes, it is uneven, but that’s what’s so darn good about it!

Cinnamon scent: check. Swirls: check. Curls: check. Cinnamon Swirl is a very romantic, very 'sugar-and-spice-and-all-things-nice' kinda font. Party Trick is loosely based on the capital letters of a classic typewriter, but I have added a bit sugar and spice to the letters - making them more funky and loose. Another great thing is the contextual alternates, which gives you 6 different versions of each letter - and they automatically changes as you type!

Eleonora tends to defy standard categories. Had the typeface been designed in about 1790, it might've been called a "late transitional face" and lumped together with Bell and Bulmer. But it's a modern typeface, showing more restraint in its finer details than even Baskerville. Also noteworthy: it has no traditional, script-like italic but a more severe oblique with baseline serifs and other roman features. Has regular, italic, bold, and bold italic styles.

Moutarde is French for mustard. At home we don’t eat that much mustard, as it is a condiment that goes well with burgers and hotdogs. We eat Asian food a lot, so our hot sauce of choice usually is sambal. Moutarde is a good name for this fine, handmade font. Moutarde font is a rounded, easy to read, display font that comes with all the condiments - including a set of alternate a’s.

Bold Fashion is a heavy slab-serif font of the disco era. Its funk-style design, coupled with soft, rounded serifs, embodies the soul of retro, bringing forth memories of neon lights, bell-bottoms, and roller discos. Conveyor Belt was designed for an environmental paper made from sugar cane waste called bagasse. The paper mill use conveyor belts to produce the paper from when the bagasse gets loaded to the finished paper product. This was the inspiration for this font. It has some alternatives to give options for different words linking different letters. This is a moving font and flowing.

Inspired by the strange, blocky lettering on the sides of a set of a set of plastic kitchen containers in my childhood home, 8th Avenue is a sophisticated, somewhat syncopated font with a retro look and feel that at the same time brings a very modern attitude to your design. 8th Avenue works well as display font for packaging, headlines and logos. Those pastel turquoise plastic boxes from the early 1950s, with white screen printed letters reading FLOUR, SUGAR, COFFEE etc. on one side were a simple quiet presence in our home back then and for decades after. Seeing them, even that soft blue-green colour felt like home. SUGAR, the soul survivor of that set has become one of those mundane items of daily life that somehow become simple icons of another time, ripe with memories. Obviously I had to make a font. Sometimes, especially after a long night of drinking in a bar or bodega, you do not want fancy, sophisticated food. You want to bite into a big, juicy burger. TpBarPaco is exactly that. A straight-forward, big and bold typeface. Like if Paco has done it himself. VLNL TpBarPaco, designed by Martin Lorenz of TwoPoints, was inspired by the vernacular type found at traditional spanish bars in Barcelona. It’s simple and friendly shapes make it the perfect typeface for HUGE typographic solutions.

While I was developing this font, my mother kept feeding me something she calls "Dream Cake". This indescribably delicious confection fueled my inspiration (there's nothing like a constant sugar-high to keep you going!) and the result is this cute little font. Dream Cake is casual in nature and as with all of my fonts, you'll find some quirky little twists to make your type projects interesting.

Sofia City is a decorative hand-drawn family that can be used on both formal and informal occasions. It has a dual personality: One time it looks like unfinished contours of a sans serif, and the other - like a very thin serif. The family is named after the city of Sofia - the capital of Bulgaria, and my hometown. Sofia City comes in two versions - "Pencil" and "Ink" each with full character set and true italics. Also there is a free demo version (capital letters only).

Zafrada features classic wedge serifs that can be sharp like a machete or round like molasses. Inspired in the sugar cane, this typeface brings great display legibility with versatile expressions. While the edgy version reminds us of classical rustic grotesk typefaces, the round version brightness the tone considerably. Be it display, branding, campaigns or content creation, this font has a sure space in many projects for it's reliable and versatile nature.

Kandij is a Dutch word and it means ‘Rock Sugar’. We Dutch use it in a lot of products, from ‘ontbijtkoek’ (a rye based spiced cake we sometimes eat for breakfast) to Fryske Sûkerbôle, A Frisian sweet bread. Kandij is a fat and happy font. I’d probably use it for any book or product aimed at children, as it has a certain lumpy cuteness. Comes with diacritics and swashes for the upper case letters.

In a much needed break from complex scripts and polished packaging fonts, Koziupa and Paul decide to show their playful side. Chicle is bold, stretchable, kid-proof, pet-resistant letters. This font is made to take the abuse of software used to put together the elaborate, attention-scrambling artwork of candy, cereal, and toy packaging, or whatever boxed obscenity contains cat and dog treats. Chicle is Spanish for bubble gum. It's a definite sugar fix — no substitutes.

Big bangs font is made with letter anatomy that looks very unique with a characteristic bulging shape and very large weight size, inspired by explosions, this font looks big and dangerous as well as unique, suitable for use in graphic designs such as stickers, posters, covers, labels, and others.

Toroka is a geometric sans serif type family with an extensive selection of styles. Functional and highly legible, it has a friendly vibe due to the lack of extending stems on "b", "d", "p", "q", "u", and "r". Its distinctive personality comes across through the rounded apexes of "V", "W", "v", and "w". Stylised "g" and "y" add sugar and spice. The additional stylistic set offers an eccentric display alternative to the uppercase. Opentype features include ligatures, tabular figures and fractions.

Bylum is put together with a bulbous line segment that makes up the bulk of the font. The verticals bulge out in the middle, the curves vary in width along their lengths. This gives the font a relaxed sway to it even while its verticals are upright and its design is fairly regimented.

Health Warning! Coconuts are not that healthy!! I always thought that coconuts were the new quinoa, but apparently they’re not that good for you. They are furry balls of saturated fat, sugar and calories, so don’t go all out with your coconut eating habits! Of course, eating a bit of coconut now and then will not kill you, so enjoy! Coconut Punch is a handmade didone-ish font. Nice and rounded and full of saturated brush strokes. Comes with all the diacritics you need too!

Undulate was designed as an alternating-letter font in which two sets of characters alternate. The alternating is done automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt). Some individual characters look strange in isolation but they fit into a wave-like pattern in which shapes that bulge up alternate with shapes that bulge down. Undulate has monospaced and monoline letters. The letter spacing is very tight to accentuate the ripple pattern. The family includes an outline style that can be used in a layer above the regular style to add color. Undulate was not designed for any particular use but as a challenge to fit letters into a particular geometric shape. The unusual patterns that a result are eye-catching and may be useful for advertising or signage and in other places where one wants attention-grabbing lettering.

I do groceries a couple of times a week. When I am shopping for food, I always read the ingredients list; I don’t want too much sugar, nor palm oil, trans fats or a lot of E numbers. It used to be quite hard finding products that didn’t contain artificial flavours or colouring, but it is getting better. Artificial Flavour is an anti-ode to the time we couldn’t get enough of the stuff - it is a handmade, all caps font which comes with extensive language support and a sweet set of alternates.

Designed to be a square font that isn’t square, Pleroid takes its cues from the shape of a square when “bulged” outward like a balloon. The caps are all rounded, the verticals are straight, and it has the feel of an old cathode-ray tube monitor—just the kind of thing for a retro-futuristic view of science fiction. Your robot approves.

VLNL Gaufre is a pixel-based font with holes designed by Donald Roos. Each character is built on a grid of doughnut-like elements, which makes it look like a kind of dried dog food, or Belgian waffles. Despite the grid Gaufre still has enough warmth due to the doughy, slightly rounded corners. And because it’s prepared with a hot waffle iron of course. The end result is a merry, chunky typeface that smells of doughnut. Use it for logos or headlines, just add butter and sugar or, better still, top it with whipped cream and cherries. Yummie!

Conference is a bold, playful sans serif, which was designed in 1978 by Martin Wait. Conference's letters are very curvaceous; many of them bulge lovingly outward from their centers. Kashigata Stencils JNL is a collection of 52 beautiful Japanese stencil images used for decorating sugar cakes to honor deceased family members with the crest of that family. My family and I recently moved to a ‘fixer upper’ farm from the 1930’s. It came with a slightly run down barn, 4000 square metres of land and a LOT of redcurrant bushes. I can’t really say that I am overly fond of them. I find them a bit too tart. As a kid, I used to smother them in sugar, but I can’t do that any longer, since I am a responsible dad… ;-) Redcurrant is a slightly wonky, slightly crazy handmade font. It can be used for book covers or post cards, but feel free to use it for whatever. Comes with cute little swashes as well.
