Elemental is a font created in 1997 and launched in 2001. It is a Sans Serif of humanist type and its principal characteristic is a hybrid between different form of calligraphic outlines. In 2010 it was redesigned for Chile’s bicentenary in Opentype version and an improved italic. It is offered in eight weights: Light, Regular, Bold and Extrabold and small capitals for each one of them.

While watching a 1920s Charlie Chaplin short film, Jeff Levine was taken with the unusually modern looking lettering of the title cards in that silent movie. The lettering was not only right for its time, but could also be adapted to both Art Deco and Techno applications. From this classic film comes the font Two Reeler JNL, a bit of yesterday with an eye toward the future.

Casper Marker is a script that simulates writing with a marker and has a thick stroke, which is excellent for titles and large text. It was born as a font in block letters, but here it is in a minuscule version with numbers and glyphs. Casper Marker has a fresh and modern style, leaning a bit to the right which gives it dynamism and feeling with reading.

Sadina™ CA is a small caps version of Sadina™ font family, designed separately to minimize the font incompatibility for applications that cannot support this feature. Generally, some applications support this feature, but not exactly with the right stems. Oculi Magni is a new sans serif type family of 8 weights with italics. This font was specially designed for the composition of texts in small size as captions or footnotes but the thin and black weights can also be used in display sizes. This Bodoni-like font sets out to slightly square off rounded shapes, adding a very slight curve to the join from the square serif and stem, and minimizing and softening the pronounced bulbs found in Bodoni. There are hints of Walbaum and Melior but the overall effect is a more subtle, and interesting letterform that is friendly, fresh and contemporary. One in the series of fonts called Whiz-Bang Wood Type, intended to be set large and tight. Brazos is an ultrabold, ultrawide sans-serif face that takes up a lot of horizontal territory, but fits in little vertical space. Named after the famous river in Texas. Both versions of the font include the 1252 Latin and 1250 CE character sets (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Thematic fonts aren't always big sellers, but they do serve a purpose for specialty projects and applications. Bonehead JNL is a novelty typeface that is constructed out of bones. Whether the need is for a pirate theme, Halloween, horror movies or for things that go bump in the night, this font will fill the bill – no bones about it. Oh, wait! Yes there are!

A ‘Brochette’ in French is a skewer. I used to be a tour guide and some years ago, I guided a couple of tours in Mali. Every night at dinner we had the choice of a ‘Brochette de Capitaine’ (grilled Nile perch on a skewer) or a ‘Brochette de Bœuf’ (grilled beef on a skewer). Of course, every night the Brochette came with French fries and ‘petits pois’ (peas). It was really nice, but after 4 months of eating Brochettes, I longed for something different! Brochette is a very nice rounded font. It comes with curls, swirls and swashes.

Have you ever wanted to set a headline within a burst, but found the drawing of all of those angles was a bit too tedious? Sales Pitch JNL solves that problem by setting letters, numbers and punctuation inside individual sections which, when typed out, generates an extended burst pattern. For a flat sided pair of end caps, use the left or right bracket keys. For burst ends, use the left or right brace keys. A blank space is located on the equal sign keystroke, and a wider blank space is on the plus sign. Keep in mind the optical illusion in some program that shows line gaps between characters on the screen. All characters have equal sidebar settings, and are flush with each other. Both fonts includes an upper and lowercase glyph set. Regular Condensed has a different upper and lowercase “O” from the original Koo Koo Puff Light Condensed. Spacing metrics are looser, as well. The font is not a match for Light Condensed, it is a separate font. Both are headline display faces, for optimum usage it is recommended to be set at 48 points or larger in size. Sardines is a project by Jacques Le Bailly aka Baron von Fonthausen. This original version is the one that saw the light as a monospaced font student project and which would eventually grow into Vette Letters’ largest font family (see VLNL Neue Sardines). Sardines is an eclectic mash of classic curves and mathematical measurements, leaving a very distinct typographic flavor. While most of our type is market-fresh, this one comes out of the can, but it’s delicious nonetheless. And it’s great for adventurous BBQ-ing!

Neuramatica is a low contrast sans serif font. Simple letter form makes that this font has a high level of legibility. Thus making Neuramatica look very modern. Neuramatica has five different weights, ranging from Light, Regular, SemiBold, Bold and Black. This font is highly recommended for use as a bodytext or headline, because it has good legibility. Design with a swiss style is perfect to use this font because it gives the impression of a modern and simple but still able to read well.

Like the name suggests, the pi font Afroculture from typeface designer Boule Yvan depicts symbols and figures from African folk art. Stylized masks with different expressions and a number of sculptures lend variety to this font. The figures are consciously simple but shown from different perspectives. The black and white surfaces contrast with another and suggest the interplay between shadow and light. The figures of Afroculture are perfect for illustrating texts in a related context and their details come through best in larger point sizes.

In Holland we eat pancakes with black syrup and I always thought that this ‘suikerstroop’ was the same as molasses. Turns out that’s not the case; syrup is made from sugar, but molasses is a by-product of the sugar refining industry. To celebrate the fact that I learned something new, I named this font family Black Molasses. Black Molasses was made using various cheap brushes and Chinese Ink. It comes in a ‘fat’ version and a ‘light’ version that work together really well.

Osaca is a sans serif font family inspired by nature and it is composed of 6 weights, from extra light to heavy, including the matching italics. Osaca is a typeface that doesn't go unnoticed due to its particular design: its curves and lines mirror the typical motif of leaves. Osaca is ideal for large and medium headers and titles, but also perfectly suitable for short or large paragraphs as it creates an effect that is quite different from the classic sans-serif and definitely unique.

Brenta is a crisp typeface with open counters and compact proportions, its name referring to a range of mountains in northern Italy. Like its namesake, Brenta is characterized by sharp-edged and sturdy forms, but also by its clarity and elegance. Strong serifs, flat and bold shoulders and open terminals pronounce the horizontal and help to guide the eye along the line.
