The Occidental family is a geometric, sans-serif text face marked by its angular construction. Occidental is suitable and economical enough to set large blocks of copy, but at display sizes Occidental's inherent character takes over making it useful for headline setting as well. The family includes four weights, each with corresponding italics (excepting Display) for a total of seven fonts.

The chamfered block style of lettering has been a workhorse for years. From the early signage of the 1800s to military markings to the techno fonts of the 1980s and beyond, its clean and simple look gets the message across easily and boldly. Industrialist JNL and its oblique partner were modeled from the title on a piece of sheet music from the 1940s.

In NewLibrary the letters are on books, not in them. (The letters are from the typeface BeneScriptine). The NewLibrary fonts have characters with blank books, both solid and outlined, that can increase coloring possibilities. Instructions on how to form the layers or alternatively to get the effects with a string of characters, some with zero width, are given in this pdf file.

Inspired by an image of the chamfered block lettering of a semi-faded “ghost sign” for the Thomas Drug Co. in Thomas, Oklahoma, Local Druggist JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. “Ghost Signs” are the visible remnants of hand-painted signs on buildings where the original business had long closed or moved, yet the lettering had survived the passing years.

A short-lived TV game show from 1977 called “Second Chance” has its logo lettered in a bold, block type style with slightly chamfered corners. This inspired Chancy JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. While “Second Chance” only lasted one season, the show was re-tooled - and debuted in 1983 as “Press Your Luck” – which ran until 1986.

Cascabel was built on a modular harmony and creates visibly maze-like geometric structures. When typeset in complete words, it conveys an unmistakable architectural approach to a design project. Ideal for magazines, posters or flyers, Cascabel is an alphabet functionally defined by a concept similar to that of building blocks. Designed by Ariel Di Lisio and digitized by Ale Paul.

Impact As its name suggests, Impact, a bold sans serif, is designed to make an impression on the reader. Obviously a display font, Impact makes use of its thick strokes and blocked style, to catch and hold the eye. Because Impact is so striking, it is best placed in plenty of white space so that it does not overwhelm any accompanying text.

Here's a clean, simple architectural-blueprint style, eminently suitable for subheads and text blocks. Inspired by and named for a gentlewoman who gave up a career as an architect in Bolivia to care for the elderly in the United States. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Inspired by Ernö Goldfinger's east London tower block of the same name, II Balfron is an imposing, all caps, one-weight typeface. Brutalist in form, the characters embody the principles of the distinctive 27-storey concrete profile with unexpected angles set within a rigid, structural grid. Much like Goldfinger's humanist, utopian housing ideals, the font is best viewed at large scale.

Raeling is a display font inspired by a visit to Luxembourg, capturing shadows falling intricately from park railings appearing as broken-script lettering. A mixture of manmade / natural, traditional / new, ugly / beautiful reflecting the paradox and contradictions of the city. A single curve and stroke developed into a grid block from which characters emerged and broke free of their barriers and conformity.

This font is inspired by graffiti calligraphy, it's only block letters in a modern style and more readable. The name "Marins Perdus" is from a novel by Jean-Claude Izzo "Les Marins Perdus", set in Marseille. The letters of "Marins Perdus" have a light inclination to the left, slim letters in a cool style, perfect for a title or a street event.

Town and Country JNL features a mix of block-style characters along with rounded ones found so often in the Art Deco fonts of the 1940s. Modeled from the hand-lettered title on a piece of sheet music from that era, this unusual coupling of two distinct design styles works despite it breaking all of the obvious rules of typography.

The powerful Eknaton comes with slanted slabserifs, a new way to add some spring to the old Egyptian slabs. Eknaton echoes the tradition that started with Napoleon's Egyptian campaign 1798, and the simultaneous looting of Egyptian art. The imports led to new ladies fashion in Europe, new architecture and new typefaces like Antique (Figgins, 1815) and Egyptian (Caslon, 1816). The Egyptian faces were also the origin of the famous Clarendon (1845) and Ionic No.5 (1925) as well as the rest of "the legibility types". In the 20th century the slabserifs became popular again with Bauhaus incarnations like Memphis (Wolf, 1929) and Beton (Jost, 1931). The Bauhaus movement, otherwise anti-serif, liked the architectural influence in Egyptian slabserifs. The Bo Berndal design of Eknaton puts some speed into the old Sphinx - the cat is back, in better form than ever! Bo Berndal, born 1924, has been designing typefaces for 56 years, for Monotype, Linotype and other foundries. When I released the original Organic in 2009, I was satisfied with it. It was what was possible from me and the technology at the time. The Organic Pro of 2021 takes those original desires of delivering a highly legible and friendly sans serif, and doubles down on those notions, while exploring what further infusing warmth in a highly structured sans serif can really do for a client. Free of distracting and potentially dating visual traits and cues that could be seen as endemic of a specific time period or ‘type trend’, Organic Pro is its own person—take it or leave it. Inviting warmth, assured reliability, and a head nod of confidence is what you walk away with—a stark contrast to the cold, impersonal geometrics and grotesques proliferating the design annuals currently. Wink has been created as the result of exhaustive research, trial and development. It is an OpenType set of fonts which appears in a friendly and fun way, with a new twist on what Joluvian has previously created. Although Wink is inspired by traditional calligraphic flourishes, its modern twist makes it elegant and simple at the same time. It’s not  completely a brush type but it has been created with the same calligraphy base Joluvian usually works with. Wink also has a caps version with the same style of the script. Both versions could work perfectly, individually or together. As usual, the type has been developed with Ale Paul for Sudtipos, and the collaboration of Macus Romero has been essential to illustrate the style that Wink represents.

Double Nines JNL is a dingbat font containing fifty-five glyphs for the tiles found in the second level of domino games. Sets of dominoes can be of either double six, double nine or double twelve. In this font, the double blank tile is located on the zero keystroke, while the one/blank and 1/1 tiles are on the 1 and 2 keystrokes. The rest of the tiles (in numerical order through 9/9) are located on the A-Z and a-z keystrokes respectively. Satsuma. It used to be only a Japanese orange, but now it's a typeface as well. A rather unusual typeface. Satsuma is rough around the edges, squarish and playful. It is handmade and comes with over 400 interlocking ligatures. If that ain't fun, I don't know what is! Of course, Satsuma comes with extensive language support AND accented ligatures! Due to the complexity of this font, it only comes as TTF.

Bernhard Modern was designed in 1937 by Lucian Bernhard for ATF. It is his personal version of the small x-height engravers’ old styles popular at the time. A perennial best-seller, Bernhard Modern remains popular in a wide variety of design and typesetting uses more that 60 years after its initial release. Bitstream’s version offers a wide array of typographer sets, including alternates, extensions, small caps and italic swashes.

Louise font was based on the art of Louise Marie (lou) Loeber, a Dutch painter. She was born in Amsterdam in 1894 and flirted with several styles like De Stijl, Cubism and Bauhaus. Her artworks are characterized by a sober use of geometric shapes; lines, rectangles and triangles. Louise font consists of Caps, but the lower and upper case glyphs are quite different. Louise comes with extensive language support.

Mysterious is a bit of an unusual font. It looks old fashioned, but it comes with cool stylistic alternates, it could be a didone, but it is not (really), it looks formal, but it is rather scary. Mysterious was more or less based on the titling pages of 17th century atlases and my own twisted imagination. It comes with a whole bunch of ligatures and stylistic alternates, plus extensive language support.

This set is inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh. The alphabet captures the essence of van Gogh's handwriting style, using his extensive correspondence with his brother Theo as the primary reference. This lettering style presents a bold brush-stroke appearance which bears striking similarities to the painting style of Van Gogh. A full international charcter set is featured. The extras feature selected imagery from van Gogh's drawing and paintings.

Double Pivot , a condensed sport inspired Regular, Low, & Mix typeface. Double Pivot has six Style with sans serif and matching italics. Pusekatt means Pussycat in Norwegian. It was finished on a rather gloomy monday, which reminded me of Norway and I just like cats. There you have it: the naming of fonts explained. It ain't rocket science for sure! There is nothing gloomy about Pusekatt font: it is a very lively, happy and useful poster face. It comes with extensive language support, one alternative (yes, one) and a lot of feline grace.

64-SRC is a condensed monospace font inspired by 1960s IBM Selectric type seen on HAL’s telemetric displays in 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is characterized by unique "double-space" alternates for the widest characters such as “w” and “m”. These alternates maximize legibility, improve the rhythm of readability and keep typographic color even. As a result 64-SRC is as well suited for extensive copy as it is display type.

Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. This typeface has been particularly popular in America where it is extensively used in advertising, book jackets, for labels and packaging.

HardTimes has been hard work, designing a handmade typeface must always have the right balance between rough and smooth, specially with this Times-like face. It has the big European glyph-set, so that it can be used all over the continent I come from. I gave this font extensive kerning. I just love biscotti; they’re one of my favourite cookies! I thought they were all rock hard and half-moon shaped, but I found out that there’s a ‘soft’ variety as well, mainly aimed at young children who may have trouble munching on the hard cookies.
