Big News! Tenez has been selected for the Tipos Latinos Biennial 2016 and Typographica’s Favorite Typefaces of 2015! Tenez is a Grand Slam display didone typeface from Plau. We designed it for a branding project, further developing the resulting logotype into a typeface we felt could solve many designers’ needs. Its origins are rooted in pointed nib calligraphy which can be seen in contemporary Didot and Bodoni inspired typefaces. But Tenez’s shapes are organic (these modern typefaces were originally cut by hand after all) – in fact that was the challenge we set from the start: to make a typeface as organic in construction as possible. This echoes some of late 19th century typefaces and advertising, yet we thought of it for contemporary uses. One of the several unique features of Tenez is its unusual Thin weight, in which the contrast between thin strokes and the black area left by the serifs makes for a typewriter-like personality. The italics provide a perfect counterpoint to the roman weights. Tenez was unapologetically conceived as a display typeface meant to be used large as in magazine openings, drop caps or everywhere there’s a need for elegant impact. The family includes support for almost all Latin languages available, figure sets for almost every conceivable occasion (tables, text, you name it), alternates for the quirky beautiful R (sometimes simpler is better, but not always!) and Q (with a nice big tail for that article opener). Tenez pairs really well with our no-frills sans-serif Motiva Sans and our cute vertical connected script Primot.

Absalon has square letter shapes. It has some characteristics semi-sharp and semi-rounded corners and it has a relatively tall x-height for legible text. To create the perfect typesetting the spaces between individual letter forms has been precisely adjusted. The Absalon font family is perfect for the web as well as for print, for display as well as longer text, for motion graphics, on the side of a van, t-shirts, logotypes and so on. The font family consist of 5 weights or 10 styles and it has 410 glyphs. A total of more than 4000 glyphs. The styles are: Light, Light Italic, Regular, Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Extra Bold & Extra Bold Italic. It has OpenType features such as automatic fractions, subscript, superscript, numerators, denomerators, ordinals and the “f” ligature set. Absalon has extended language support (most Latin-based scripts are supported). The name of the font family is Absalon and it is a reference to a Danish bishop in the middle ages. He was a key figure in the founding of Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark.

DecorateTheTree is a festive novelty font family containing two styles designed to be used in layers. Each style has letters on Christmas-tree lights. The regular style has clear bulbs and the bold style has filled bulbs. Some characters are on standing bulbs and others on hanging bulbs and these two sets are made to alternate with the OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature. To use only one set of bulbs, this feature must be turned off and character spacing adjusted, though why anyone would want to use only one set is a mystery. These fonts are monospaced. They are useful to display a holiday message not just in words but in the lettering itself. (The characters on the bulbs are derived from the font SansduskiMono.)

Because all good things can get better. Texta was born in 2014, a collaborative project of the study of humanist models from Edward Johnston to Adrian Frutiger. Texta Pro is a contemporary and rational sans, almost invisible, but not quite. It is a workhorse for any type of project. The first Clarendon was introduced in 1845 by R. Besley & Co, The Fan Street Foundry, as a general purpose bold for use in conjunction with other faces in works such as dictionaries. In some respects, Clarendon can be regarded as a refined version of the Egyptian style and as such can be used for text settings, although headline and display work is more usual.

If there is ever a need for a heptagonal font, that is, a font based on a seven-sided polygon, Heptagroan may fit the bill, unless the need is also for true lower-case letters. Heptagroan is caps only, though some of the caps on the lower-case keys differ from those on the upper-case keys. Heptagroan is monospaced and is available in two weights.

The idea of symmetry came to me when I was lookig for a geometric sans font. None of the things that I found did have the mathematically perfect symmetry. So, I went ahead and created one. I have used complex mathematical equations to get the perfect angle in every letter. Diameter comes with two styles square corner and rounded corner, each with regular and bold weights.

Abdo Line is a simple Naskh font for books and magazines. Accurate design and clarity of reading and writing space-saving, it comes in sixth weights: Thin, Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy and Black. This is an OpenType Font supporting Arabic, Persian, Urdu Languages and compatible with the various operation systems and modern software. MVB Aunt Mildred has a vintage charm that evokes hand-lettered postcards or advertising. Akemi Aoki drew the letterforms with a fine-tip felt pen and named it after her great aunt. Since its release in 1995, Aunt Mildred has been a popular choice for children’s books. Regatta is a bold, narrow sans serif designed by Alan Meeks in 1987. Its strong, robust figures makes it a particularly good font for headlines in larger point sizes. Regatta is distinguished by its diamond shaped dots on i and j as well as the slanted strokes of several figures. These characteristics relax the closed, static image of Regatta and let the font seem cheerful and friendly.

Released by the Compugraphic Corporation in 1979, the Garth Graphic font family is based on a design by John Matt from the 1960's, reworked by Renee LeWinter and Constance Blanchard. Garth Graphic was named after Bill Garth, a founder of Compugraphic. A fairly strong old style face suitable for text setting; the heavier weights and condensed forms are most used for display work.

The 1929 sheet music for Cole Porter's "You Do Something to Me" (from the musical stage comedy "Fifty Million Frenchmen") has the name of the play hand lettered in a bold sans with an intersecting inline. This design was the inspiration for Suggestion Box JNL. Not quite Art Nouveau, and not yet Art Deco, the typeface is nonetheless timeless in its clean, appealing style.

Reverie is a cheerful band of letters that bounce across the page and get together to create words in three weights. Generous spacing and a modest x-height project an airy typeface that's open but not frail. Quirky without being too whimsical. Use the regular weight for surprisingly readable text or put the light and bold weights to use for decorative headlines and titles.

Put the kettle on and break out the biscuits. This no-nonsense stencil face is a faithful recreation of Tea Chest, released by the Stephenson Blake Type Foundry in 1939. Its bold strokes and slender profile retain their freshness, even seventy-plus years on. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

Although the pattern for this typeface, originally named Glenmoy, was released by Stephenson Blake in 1932, the letterforms can be more aptly described as pure 1950s retro. With beatniks, Brando and blue suede shoes all rolled up into one, this typeface is definitely a contender. The Opentype versions (OTF and TTF) of this font contain the complete Unicode Latin, Latin 1 and Latin Extended-A character sets.

Here’s a fresh take on a classic, Caslon Black Swash by Ed Benguiat. Big, bold and beautiful, it’s a natural choice for distinctive and attractive headlines.
