Cleveden was inspired by some lettering sighted on a neglected and somewhat tarnished brass plaque, affixed to an elderly office building. The elegance and character (somehow playful and formal at the same time) of the letterforms shone through the tarnished state of the plaque. As an aside the brass plaque in question was on the former business premises of a long established firm of accountants. We suspect the ethics of that profession would preclude us identifying which one. Our efforts to identify their engraver have proven unavailing. Cleveden is a family of four typefaces, Regular, Bold, Capitals and Capitals Bold. They are ideal for designs that call for distinctive formality and especially lend themselves to signage, certificates, and -dare it be said- engraved plaques!

Mondo is essentially a contemporary typeface with vintage clothing, the incise terminals and the humanist ductus brings some of the classical dignity of the lettering tradition to an essentially modern typeface. On the middle weights Mondo is a sans with slightly condensed proportions, build with modular regularity and special care for lowing the tension on the curves, which delivers a very even texture and a sense of quietness and balance to long text settings. On the extreme weights the attention is attracted by the accentuated terminals, the vertical rhythm, the ink traps and the details of its overall construction, making Mondo an excellent choice for headlines and display use when a modern and clean but still catchy typeface is needed.

LECO 1976 is a headline display typeface in OpenType format. The title at the 1976 bottle of Lečo became an inspiration for creating this font. Besides the regular weight of the font, the font is drawn in light and bold font styles too, while each of these typefaces consists of a special alternative of an embedded diacritic. The font contains several specific styles as Stencil, Pixel, Tride, Shadow which combinations offer interesting possibilities for the typesetting. The metrics and kerning of every glyph of the font (except several glyphs in Bold) are identical. All the signs share the same character and size of the capital letters. HS Ali was designed in memoriam of my brother - Ali Abu Afash who was martyred during the last aggression on Gaza in summer 2014. The digital outline fonts, DIN 1451 Fette Engschrift and Fette Mittelschrift were created by URW in 1984 and are the basis for all DIN font families. The “Trixy Toy Educator” was a 1930s-era set of letters and numbers (along with a few animal shapes) for teaching children, and was manufactured by the Durrel Company of Gardner, Massachusetts. Die cut from thick cardboard, the 40 piece set also included a rack to display the characters, presumably for little ones to practice the correct order of the alphabet and basic numerals or to spell simple words like ‘dog’ or ‘cat’. Whomever came up with the idea, they used the most rudimentary and unusual ‘type design’ shapes in the A-Z and 0-9, but they were just odd enough to inspire a digital type version of them. Fox is a completely new typeface based on my previously designed Fox family font, which has been in distribution by T26 type foundry since 2001. Old Fox typeface design decisions were reconsidered in a way to improve legibility without sacrificing its originality. This new Fox family consists two subfamilies: Fox TRF and Fox Sans TRF. Fox TRF is upright italic typeface with light, regular and bold weight styles. The most distinguished Fox characteristic is the lowercase letters. Their curly, playful and vivid letter forms were derived from handwritten lettering then carefully shaped and adapted onto sans serif category. Vinque is an interpretation of a nineteenth century Arts & Crafts revival of medieval lettering. British type designer William Morris completed Troy in 1891—a splendid blackletter typeface in the medieval style. It’s beautiful but some modern uses like UI and video game text require a less ornate gothic appearance. Vinque is simple. It avoids strong vertical blackletter strokes which can present problems for contemporary readers. The end result is an uncomplicated, crisp typeface that successfully conveys medievalness to the reader. Vinque was released in 2002 in one style: Regular. In 2019, Vinque was expanded to seven weights and italics. Language support was bolstered to support most current Latin based languages as well as Greek and Cyrillic. A 1916 book entitled “Lettering” by Thomas Woods Stevens features a number of hand lettered alphabets; some plain, others unique. One of the more novel examples was designed by Harry Lawrence Gage and featured letters and numbers with a crude, wavy style described in the book as “adapted to wood block and linoleum cutting”. To keep the design as close to the original as possible, the image from the book page was auto-traced, with each character given just enough of a clean-up as to retain its own quirkiness while smoothing out any jagged lines and fixing some curves. From there, other necessary characters were created for the digital font, and the end result is Tenement JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
