Cursivo Saxonio is a typeface inspired in the famous book The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, by H P Lovecraft. It shows better than I get with my studies the authentic "Insularis" or "Cursivo Saxonio" handlettering of the VIII and XI centuries used by some people in Britain. Library Book Initials JNL was modeled from examples of Sidney Gaunt's Publicity Initials; originally sold in metal type by Barnhart Brothers and Spindler as a companion to the Publicity Gothic typeface. The smoothed-down lines of the original characters allow for these initials to balace better when set against complementary type faces. Theatrics JNL gives a rounded corner treatment to Prismatiq JNL; which in turn was modeled from lettering found in an early 1900s French lettering book displayed at an online image sharing site. Limited character set.

In the year 1791, the 20th of June, the king of France Louis XVI attempted to flight from Paris to the Luxembourg. He was intercepted on the road and taked to Paris again on the 21st. A few month later, in September, the first French democratic constitution was promulgated, transferring the sovereignty from the king to the French people. This font was created inspired from the steady hand of a lawyer writing a farm renting contract a few days after the advent of the new French regime. It is a "Pro" font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. The numerous alternates and ligatures allow to made the font looking as closely as possible to a real hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary the characters without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options.

Patriotica JNL was inspired by some hand lettering designed by the late Alf Becker for Signs of the Times® magazine. The alphabet was modified and the character set extended in this digital version. Special thanks to Tod Swormstedt of ST Publications, Inc. and the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati for providing a copy of the original lettering for use as a work model. Patriotica JNL is available as a complete font or in a set of two layers (stars layer and stripes layer) for creating two-color graphics. Breaking the cycle of homelessness We are partnered with The House of St. Barnabas, a private members club in Soho Square, whose work as a not for profit charity aims to break the cycle of homelessness in London. Each purchase (of the family pack) comes with a one month membership to The House and 100% of the proceeds from sales of fonts go directly to the charity to help their essential work. This unique collection of 7 typefaces is based on the disappearing signs of Soho, at risk of being lost forever due to the ever changing landscape of the area. By re-imaging the signage as complete fonts, we have rescued this rich visual history from the streets and present the typefaces into a contemporary context for a bright optimistic future. FS Berwick Thanks to its humble tiled origins, this Egyptian serif type maintains a uniform character width, creating the irregular letter proportions found in the final alphabet. Broad-shouldered, the bracketed serifs firmly ground the font, whilst its extreme hairlines become a necessity due to the uniform width. Of note is the upside down ‘S’, to be found on the original sign on Berwick Street. Perhaps due to its ceramic origins, there is a surprising ‘slippiness’ to its final appearance. FS Cattle Cattle & Son is best described as a wide, but not overly extended, grotesque-style sans serif, showing a uniform width and carrying a robust strength to its form. Whilst lightly functional overall, the purposeful diagonal legs of the ‘K’, ‘R’ and the tail of the ‘Q’ add an urgency to its appearance. The reduced size of the ampersand gives away Cattle & Son’s hand-painted origins, and the oblique compacted ‘LTD’ found on the original sign is also included in the final set. This beautiful sign is tucked away under an arch in Portland Mews, sheltering from the weather. Perhaps this is why it has lasted so long. FS Century This somewhat elongated set of Roman capitals was originally rendered in paint circa 1940, but its roots trace back to the Trajan Column in Rome. Witness the slightly unbalanced ‘W’ and the painter’s hand is revealed. Century’s flared serif style is extremely short, sharp and bracketed. The ‘M’ is splayed and has no top serifs. Century has a uniform appearance of width, probably due to its sign-written origins. Yet is elegant, classic and exudes sophistication. FS Charity A true Tuscan letterform, the original is located on The House of St. Barnabas in ceramic tiles and was revealed in all its broken glory in 2014. FS Charity retains the option of using these incorrect characters (try typing lowercase in the test drive above and compare with the more uniform uppercase characters). FS Charity features fishtailed terminals on its strokes, a curious branched ‘T’ and the ‘S’ displays tear-drop ends to its serifs. Almost uniform in width, the ‘A’, ‘M’ and ‘W’ are the widest characters in this set. FS Marlborough The elongated Marlborough features diagonal terminals to some characters and numerals. Also retained is the space-saving contracted ‘T’ glyph from the original sign, while the ‘R’ features a distinctive wedge-shaped leg. Highly individual in this form, similar signage appears around Soho, but featuring a variety of widths in their design. FS Portland The sister type to Cattle & Son, Portland is oblique rather than italic. The serifs are not overly long, yet still enhance its rather rigid cap height and baseline appearance. Its ‘A’ has a top serif, the ‘M’ is square and the ‘G’ foregoes any spur. Particularly delightful is the open ampersand. Numerals align to encourage the horizontal flavour of the oblique style. Overall, Portland is both confident and graceful. FS St James A lineal Continental style, St James also displays a true sense of ‘Londoness’ in its titling form, perhaps influenced by early Underground signage. Irregular letterforms display a continental flavour, particularly evident in its Deco style ‘W’, ampersand and numerals. The rather high cross bar in the ‘A’ is also reflected in the raised middle strokes of the ‘M’. Noteworthy are the distinctive unions found on all of the characters and the additional small caps. The original lettering is still located on Greek St.

French Art Deco lettering found within the pages of the 1934 publication L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre (roughly translated to “The Rational Path Art of the Letter”) have provided a number of designs well-suited for digital revival. A hand lettered sans with varying character widths was the basis for Colmar JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. As the source of the lettering design was a French publication, the typeface is named for the city of Colmar, which (according to Wikipedia) is the third-largest commune of the Alsace region in north-eastern France.

A ‘Brochette’ in French is a skewer. I used to be a tour guide and some years ago, I guided a couple of tours in Mali. Every night at dinner we had the choice of a ‘Brochette de Capitaine’ (grilled Nile perch on a skewer) or a ‘Brochette de Bœuf’ (grilled beef on a skewer). Of course, every night the Brochette came with French fries and ‘petits pois’ (peas). It was really nice, but after 4 months of eating Brochettes, I longed for something different! Brochette is a very nice rounded font. It comes with curls, swirls and swashes.

This set of initial letters was inspired from French renaissance decorated letters. It is a typical pattern, one among dozen quite similar, but this one was in use in Paris, unchanged, for centuries, and was still in use in the beginning of 1900s. This explains the difference between I and J, U and V. These characters were engraved years after the original set. Our font was inspired from a late 1800s publication. It can be used as well with Humane fonts (like our 1543 Humane Janson or 1592 GLC Garamond) as with modern fonts like our 1820 Modern or 1906 French News.

Zydeco JNL gives the 'Latin' style spur serif treatment to Jeff Levine's Halavah Twist JNL, for a new and fun typeface named after the Louisiana French-Creole music popularized by accordion player Clifton Chenier in the 1950s.

This is based on a mid-Victorian Connor's foundry font originally known as Manhattan. One of several old faces known in America as "French Clarendons", in Europe as "Italians", and, wait for it, in France as "American".

Petit Oiseau (Little Bird in French) is a very nice and very legible 'back-to-school' kind of typeface. It is thin, elegant and stylish, yet retains a certain youthfulness. Petit Oiseau comes with Babylonian language support!

Originally released as Éclair by the French foundry Deberny, Peignot & Cie., this face is pure Art Deco in motion. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1262, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

Hesster Mofet is what I got after writing with an old and weathered calligraphic marker on textured paper. The characters were smoothened for a clean result, but since the original sketches had such a nice rough, edgy feel to them, they were also made into a complete font set. A couple of ligatures and a Hannibal Lecter reference were thrown in the mix as well. You can get both versions at a discount.

Tenby is a series of modular geometric display sans serif fonts with a hint of Art Deco combined with a 1980s finish. The fonts' underlying grid is ten squares high. Their widths correspond to condensed (Tenby Four), normal (Tenby Five) semi-extended (Tenby Six), extended (Tenby Seven), and extra-extended (Tenby Eight). Each contains two weights, light and regular. Although smaller text sizes are still quite legible, the fonts work better at large sizes.

Albe Sans is a font family that began life when I was struck by a full-color back page ad in a 1935 copy of Better Homes & Gardens. I loved the readability and general cleanliness of the design. This font is drawn from memory after that experience. It is loosely based on Palton for proportion, but heaviily modified (not to mention, Palton is serif): Lower case numbers, Euro, ballot box in the section slot.
