I always admired the beauty of Gothic letters, but lamented their low readability. The revivals of Gothic faces are beautiful, but they revive everything, including the traits that prevent readability. Blackletters are fine in ads and titles, but can’t be used in long texts (like books on Middle Ages, Medieval romances etc) where they would be the perfect historical choice. And I wanted to change this scenario. With Giureska, instead of taking one particular face to revive, I chose the best traits from many Gothic faces, i.e. the forms that were pleasant to look and easy to read. For the ‘small caps’, I studied uncial scripts and made a similar selection, adapting everything to make a unified font. With three weights, true italics and the uncials, Giureska can endure a variety of projects, bringing the appeal of Middle Ages much beyond the cover.

Graffiti is all repetition. Style, like brand logos, makes the repetition more recognizable, but style should never keep you from reading the word. Chanse Fresh was a project to make a handstyle font that wasn't self-concious and overworked - the font is clearly readable and fresh AF. Round is the base font with a thin version to create hierarchy or for longer pieces of text. Both round and thin have a "wet" drippy mop tag version best for key text. The font is all caps with alternates, so you can sub in capitals as needed with repetitive letters to change things up. ORIGINS The La Galigo that written in traditional Lontara script is widely believed by people Buginese as a bible of sacred and should not be read without a certain ritual preceded.It tells the story of hundreds of descendants of the gods who live at a time for 6 (six), hereditary generation, the various kingdoms in South Sulawesi and the surrounding islands. The Lontara script is an Brahmic script traditionally used for the Bugis language, Makassarese language, and Mandar languages of Sulawesi in modern Indonesia. It is also known as the Buginese script. It was largely replaced by the Latin alphabet during the period of Dutch colonization.

The typeface is inspired by our love of old hand-painted signs in butchers, and based on some very quick sketches using a brush pen to find what shapes worked. There is quite a quirky element to the type, as we tried to create the original sketches by rotating the brush pen to reflect the strokes of a paint brush. This lead to a horizontal stressing, which is most noticeable in letters like C, G, S and J. Sidestroke comes in 2 styles, both a standard solid version, and a pre-shadowed outline version. This can be outlined and divided in Illustrator to quickly create an alternate coloured fill for your letters. The lowercase letters have been designed to automatically horizontally align with any uppercase letters, which is a great shortcut when creating logos or other unique type layouts.
