The movie trailer for the1936 film "After the Thin Man" is filled with text lettered in this classic Art Deco condensed typeface. Sleuth JNL seems the appropriate name for this digital revival, as the romantic comedy centers around detective Nick Charles' and his wife Nora's adventures.

RBNo2.1 is a condensed sans serif typeface with a technical and geometric appearance. The family includes 2 versions (RBNo2.1a and RBNo2.1b) and has 7 weights with matching italics. RBNo2.1 feels comfortable in technical surroundings with short text passages, in brochures, catalogs, magazines, posters, websites headlines and logos.

Designed over three years after the second World War, and published in 1949 by the Nebiolo foundry, Normandia was Alessandro Butti’s take on the fat face. As it usually was with Butti’s designs, this face effectively injected a catchy yet expertly calculated calligraphic spin into its source of inspiration — which was the essentially geometric/deco, thicker model of Bodoni’s very popular aesthetic. The metal Normandia saw some widespread use for a handful of years after its publication, not least because of the multitude of sizes in which it was available. It stepped out of the limelight by the mid-1950s, due to a combination of the popularity of cold type and Nebiolo’s refusal to retool its faces for new technologies. It was copied by a few small film typesetting outfits on both sides of the Atlantic, but never really found its way back to the mainstream. By the time computer type became the norm, Normandia was pretty much relegated to a type historian’s collection of anecdotes. This digital update of the classic series revives and refines the three original metal designs (Tonda/Regular, Corsiva/Italic, and Contornata/Outline) and expands the character set to more than 600 glyphs per font, including small caps, six types of figures, fractions and nut fractions, a full set of f-ligatures, some stylistic alternates, and other fine typography niceties.

The name says it all. Gothic from the old literary style and/or current subculture genre. And Gothic meaning a block or sans serif style of lettering. The concept was to take the classic German style lettering and create a contemporary extended block letter typeface. The result is a fusion of old and new.

Here’s a simple, classic hand-lettered gem, based on an old photoface named Adonis. Suitable for headline or text use, it’s a refreshing and lively alternate to Comic Sans. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Being a geometric sanserif ocr-t comes in eleven weights from ultrawhite to infrablack (brightwhite, white, silver, lightgrey, grey, darkgrey, anthracite, black, jetblack). With more than 600 glyphs it covers all your typographic needs and manages to stay at the same place no matter which width you’re using. Its readability and legibility is more than fine although it needs no kerning. The infrablack is really black, in order to achieve this, the form of letters change from darkgrey to anthracite from upright to some kind of upright italic. This also gives opportunity to mix two weights with same colour but different architecture. Find also stylistic sets, alternate letters, lots of bullets, different arrows, hands and well: kind of hearts.

The vintage sheet music for "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" yielded another bit of Art Deco-era lettering perfect for developing into a digital font. This time it wasn't the song title, but rather the name of the show it was from serving as the type inspiration - the Cotton Club's 1931 revue "Rhythm-Mania". Harlem's Cotton Club was an "exclusive, whites only" club; both famous for its talent and shows, yet infamous for hiring black acts but not allowing black patronage. On the sheet music, the show title was hand lettered in a bold, slightly stylized fashion which became the basis for Rhythmic Revue JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.

This typeface design was influenced by the British Rail corporate type introduced in an old lettering instruction book published in Japan. Of course, the only clue to this typeface is the lettering instruction book at hand. I started with the Bold design first. Then I designed Light, Regular, and Black in that order. Light and Regular are intended to be used as the text type, while Bold and Black are intended to be used as the base for logotypes, headlines, and other eye-catchers.

The typeface family Triump is a simple sans serif with 6 weights from Thin, ideal for use as an epigraph, to Black for head titles of special impact. Excellent for applying in graphic design as logos, trademarks, posters, editorial and web design. Inspired by the classic types of the late twentieth century with rounded corners that give the typography a smooth appearance with rounded ends, with a horizontal stroke that exceeds the vertical in the letters A, E, F, H, J and K which gives a distinct personality. Triump comes with a Black weight in normal and italic Line both upper and lowercase letters, especially to give a vintage look to the designs.

Singolare is a contemporary geometric Sans Serif with angular terminals and a great x height. Its main feature is the style difference between the lighter and heavier weights. The more weight it gains, the higher its singularity. With its weights, styles and layers variety, it's perfect for display use and short texts that require a visual impact. Singolare is composed by five weights, from Ultralight to Black. Every weight has its own stencil variation with expressive cuts and four decorative versions: three outline and one inline version, that can work on it’s own or overlapped to the black normal version (changing the colors of each layer) in order to amplify its usage possibilities.

The melon (Cucumis melo) is an herbaceous plant monoecious trailing stems. It is known for its fruit, a berry summer season with a high water content and sweet taste. Thomas Jefferys (ca. 1710–1771) was the best-known map maker in 18th-century England, chiefly because he won (and hyped) the title “Geographer to King George III.” Jefferys was really more an engraver/publisher than a geographer, since he mostly relied on the cartographic materials of others. Still, his maps of the North American colonies were well known. Geographica is a legible, four-style serif family modeled after the neat hand-lettered place names and peripheral text on Jefferys’s maps. With its long serifs, tall x-height, and robust curves, Geographica somehow combines classic elegance with a whiff of coastline and sea. The italic styles have the slant and warmth of the hand-drawn source materials. And the typeface comes with a slew of distinctive map-based ornaments—including compass wheels and sailing ships. Modern typefaces refer to designs that bear similarities to Bodoni and other Didone faces, which were first created during the late 1700s. Ed Benguiat developed ITC Modern No. 216 in 1982 for the International Typeface Corporation (ITC). Showing a high degree of contrast between thick and thin strokes, as well as a large x-height, this revival is more suited to advertising display purposes than the setting of long running text, or books. Many traits in Benguiat's design are worth further notice. The thick stems of the roman weights have a very stately, solid presence. Their thin serifs have been finely grafted on, a masterful solution to the challenge of bracketing presented by Modernist designs. The italic weights have a very flowing, script-like feel to them, and the letters take the form of true italics, not obliques. The ITC Modern No. 216 family contains the following font styles: Light, Light Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Heavy, and Heavy Italic.

Shady Characters JNL places type against a simulated halftone background to produce a "ribbon" with black and white visual contrast. By typing the left bracket key, you produce a wide space for between the words. A narrower space is on the right bracket key. Limited character set.
