Batchelder Ruff is a "battered" version of the typeface used for titling in the catalogs and advertising of the Batchelder Tile Company in Pasadena, California in the 1920s. The original source characters were smoother, but they were also handlettered, so that every character was different. This digitized version contains uniform characters, but its "rough" quality preserves the hand-drawn look. Argonautica is based on a relict of the future that was left on earth by time-travelling extra-terrestrials. In 1947, an UFO crashed in the New Mexico desert. There were unknown glyphs found on the spaceship which couldn�t be deciphered to date. Based on one of the unknown glyphs, Gabriele Lindemann developed a complete alphabet readable for human beings. Between 1958 and 1961, Herbert Thannhaeuser developed the typeface Liberta for Typoart as a broadly conceived newspaper type which established itself quickly. Its positive adaptation by publishing houses and printing companies was based, next to its agreeable and reader-friendly general impression, also on a relatively robust typeface character which does not sacrifice its power of impression and elegance even when confronted with poor paper and printing qualities. And the day in which I introduce my second typographic family has arrived. In order to do this, I borrowed several passages from this beautiful book by Maurice Maeterlinck, “Life and Flowers”. His poetic observation of Nature made me reflect about the small discoveries behind the flow of my pen on paper. About that quick, spontaneous, overwhelmed stroke, with some awkwardness as well as certainty in it. About the writing that looms line after line. About the mischievous stains of ink flooding my writing tool. Lady Dodó was born as a product of these drawings, pieces of writing and reflections. Following the steps of its ancestor and friend, Lady René, it takes advantage of the goodness of the Open Type technology to propose a systematized as well as a personalized writing font. Both friendly and challenging. Due to the large number of alternate characters (both for lower and upper case as well as for numbers) and to its precise programming, it proposes to design diverse and rich typographical sets with multiple strokes in a simple way. Youngblood is a non-connected formal script with tall, sweeping ascenders and two alternates. These alternate forms can be mixed and matched for a custom look, and Youngblood is stronger in weight and is better suited for display work than most script fonts. Although Youngblood looks back to traditional copperplate scripts for inspiration, there is a new and exciting spirit to the design. Youngblood includes OpenType ending swashes, ornaments, ligatures, discretionary ligatures for most common ascender pairs and old style figures.

As usual, I stumbled upon a great 1971 Italian movie poster when looking for something else. The poster for “La Morte Cammina Con I Tacchi Alti” (directed by Luciano Ercoli), was made by an unknown artist and comes with a great font. Cortese was based on this movie poster font, but as I started working on the glyphs, I figured they would even look better in ligatures. So here it is: Cortese font - complete with 135 ligatures, accents and even Greek and Cyrillic!

Because of delays in production, the face was never used by the magazine. However, Gimbel Brothers, the famous New York department store, opened in 1910, around the time of the release of the typeface, which was used almost exclusively for its advertising and was often known as Goudy Gimbel, but the typeface was better known by the Monotype series number Goudy 38.

I am not really sure if goldfish in general are lucky. They tend to swim in circles in a bowl, but maybe, years from now, scientists discover that these goldfish count themselves lucky to be in a bowl, rather than in a stream in Asia. Personally, I think they’d be better off in a stream. Lucky Goldfish font is a cute and happy font, ideally suited for book covers, posters and toy packaging. Comes with a school of diacritics too.
