Capital glyphs are, although damaged, satisfactorily legible, whereas instead of lowercase letters, capital glyphs are placed, also featuring nearly abstract, hard to read dirty looks damaged spots and stains. The overall visual experience is rough. Capitals are legible and of small size, whereas the second group can be used only in bigger size, whereby rendering an interesting text texture in the course of alternate use. The hand lettered title found on the cover of the 1932 sheet music for “Dancing Marathon” inspired the digital revival of this unusual lettering as well as the font’s name. The font Marcel is named in honor of Marcel Heuzé, a Frenchman who was conscripted into labor during World War II. During the months Marcel was in Germany, he wrote letters to his beloved wife and daughters back home in rural France. The word Text" in Goudy Text™ is short for Textura, and textura is the style of blackletter or gothic writing developed in Northern Europe in the middle ages. The use of space in blackletter is quite different from what we know about Roman letterforms. Lowercase forms in blackletter writing and typefaces must be evenly textured with black and white elements, like the texture of weaving or fabric. Capital letters can provide either an integration of the even texture (by the use of decoration in their construction) or, if they are wide and open and filled with white, they provide bright spots of visual emphasis. Goudy, despite being an American in the twentieth century, understood well the fundamental texture of medieval blackletter and the importance of both density and light. He designed Goudy Text in 1928 for Lanston Monotype after studying the type in Gutenberg's 42-line bible; still one of the best models for designers of blackletter typefaces. Sunshine is the unlikely alphabet collision of Gobbler and Liquorstore. Chank's napkin scrawl smashed into the letters commonly found on signage at the neighborhood liquor store. Gobbler's blotchy textures fragmented Liquorstore's uniform stroke. It began as a hideous lumpy thing with random vector points everywhere. Chank came to the rescue with his Alphabetician's first aid kit. He smoothed the blunt corners with a few hammer blows. He wrapped the font in extra strokes, in a sans serif Roman style, to increase its contrast. His industrial influence helped stabilize Gobbler's gloppy qualities and his grunge aesthetic softened Liquor store's checkerboard rigidity. The end result is a font with a solid structure and a painterly wiggle that creates a dirty display or a slightly clumsy text face. Because of its many detailed strokes, it tends to look a little better in print than on the web. All organic. Earthy.

Our new Hamburger font is based on the old classic Brush Script design with many new additions. We've added many alternates to the design including lowercase swash tail letters, swash underscores and a few alternate uppercase letters. Upright scripts are popular these day so new to this old type design is a near upright script version, a lot of hand work went into producing it. One of the biggest problems with the old Brush Script font is that people use it as all caps, which doesn't look good because of the extended swash on the top left side of the caps letters. We've fixed that problem by making an all caps version where the caps in the lowercase position have the top left swash tucked in to help the letters display better as an all caps font. We've also created a small caps version, again the small caps lowercase have all the top left swashes tucked in to bring the letters closer together for a better display. Also new to this font are two higher x-height versions that are ideal for signage. The first is Hamburger X which stands for extra x-height and the second is Hamburger SPX which stands for super x-height. Both of these higher x-height fonts are suitable for signage on a building, billboard and vehicle lettering where you're looking for faster readability from moving traffic. We've designed a new lowercase b and moved the original to an alternate position. We've also redesigned the uppercase C bringing the bottom up to the baseline and moved the original C to an alternate position. The original lowercase g was open at the top, we've closed it and we're not offering the original g as an alternate.

It's not a new idea, but it's always a fun one... a typeface comprised of 35mm film frames. Film Crew JNL is Jeff Levine's version, utilizing his Koehler Sans JNL as the lettering inside the frames. Stars is a decorative font, that consists of 52 ornamental stars, placed on the letters a-z and A-Z. The building principle is based on the segment of a circle. This is my first fontrelease in 2021, and it's one of those "things will get better soon" kinda fonts (Here I am thinking about 2020, which was a year I am glad we just left!) Anyway, the first thing I ate in 2021 (not counting the "kransekage" after midnight) was a delicious and lovely tuna sandwich - or as I called it: Party Toast! Heh-heh! :) Well, it is a playful font with it's jumpy and slightly quirky letters. I've added 5 different versions of each letter and they automatically cycles as you type. I cross my fingers for a 2021 where everything gets back to normal!

HGB Galaxo is a tribute to Othmar Motter (1927–2010), the Vorarlberg graphic artist and typeface designer, who designed very individual and perfectly crafted typefaces in the 1970's and later. (Motter Ombra, Motter Tectura ...)From a Motter sketch of 5 letters for a logogram, I derived a simplified letterform and developed all the necessary characters. Working on these glyphs and delving deeper into Motter's letterforms, the respect for the accuracy with which he drew his letters (in ink) grew more and more. The spiral resembles the shape of a galaxy, hence the name Galaxo. The font is suitable for retro, poster and logo design.
