The other day I had to login to a page several times, and as security I had to check the "I am not a robot" box. Actually, I think I did a login at that particular page like 30 times that day...and in the end I was thinking "Come on, you should know by now that I am not a robot" And even though I thought it was a repetitious hassle I figured that I needed to name a font "I am not a robot" - and not a robotic-like one, but a sweet and funny cartoonish one! :)

Fluffenhaus is a vintage bold retro-font, the glyphs are soft serve ice cream, sorta Cooper Black after to much party. A fun playful look that suggests the 1960's and 1970s rock posters and cereal box art as well. Terpentijn is a handmade typeface with a serious twist. It is very uneven, very unusual, and, if I may say so myself, very adorable. I raise chickens for eggs and meat. I usually buy fertilised eggs online and place them in my incubator, which says that it is 'fully automatic'. Of course I added that rather random introduction to tell you how I came up with the name for this new font... Fully Automatic is a handmade cartoon font: I used a sharpie pen to draw the glyphs onto rough paper. The result is a wobbly, yet quite clean cartoon font. Here's a fun collection of cute, weird, crazy and goofy drawings. The titles struck me as handsome -- the titles and captions and place labels on a page I have of Henri Abraham Chatelain's Atlas Historique. I'd already modeled Antiquarian Scribe after the neat, slanted penmanship used in the body text of Chatelain's famous old world atlas; now I felt compelled to digitize this legible roman handlettering, as well. The letterforms are strong and handsome. They've got a certain deft, organic character. A personality. I can't fully explain it. But this antique alphabet seems suitable for many applications. Well, I recently heard the song "Even flow" by Pearl Jam and took a trip down memory lane - back to my early twenties. I remember how the lyrics affected me, and had an impact on how my life changed the years to follow. Maybe the style of the font does not reflect the inner meaning of the song, but it does reflect a look back in time for me - and the change that took place. Here's what I said about the original Ginza: Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of that demon is to put something down on paper. A year later the doodles became a skeleton, and then the skeleton had a body, then the body had a name, then the name got a personality. What was left was a clean set of fonts that encompass a very simple skeleton with a lot of visual appeal. And now with Ginza Narrow: Once Ginza was released, I immediately wanted to commit the time to create a narrower version—if for nothing else but to add additional versatility to the skeleton, but my schedule just would not allow it until a client recently asked me to. There was no need to ask twice as I had already started and then shelved the initial builds. I also had the opportunity to expand the localization of the fonts by adding Cyrillic.

WEG* font is an experimental type system where legibility isn’t the focus. This project studies how glyphs are constructed and how their ductus can be modified. I explored how far I can move the limits if I don’t worry about the legibility. In Weg, letters are built by a single line that connects them, along with words and paragraphs. When weight decreases, the legibility of the signs increases. This is the first stage. It’s a project in expansion. The set contains uppercase, lining figures and basic punctuation in three weights: Regular, Light and Thin. The current supported languages are Spanish, Guaraní and English. If you need any other language, please let me know. I would like to expand the character set. Second stage project WEG is an experimental in-expansion font family. Here I present to you the second stage. I’m planning the first upgrade for middle 2021. I’m preparing a pattern set for July 2021. Here you can see the first four patterns. Floridium grew out of an affection for the old wood types of the 1800s. Painters Roman* was the initial inspiration. It was the source for the �banana� and �snake head� serifs. But the design�released by Adobe as Juniper�was too quirky to be useful. I tried to make it more sophisticated and modern while keeping the original personality of the 19th century types. The name resulted from a trip to Miami while the initial drawings were being made. Not the best way to name a typeface, but while we were in Miami Beach there was this tall blonde in a bright yellow bikini sitting on this bright yellow Porsche and...

There's something about the endless variations of handwriting, the tactile process of pen, pencil or brush to paper, and the personal and ephemeral quality as a whole. I recently came across some old handwritten letters from when my younger sister was going to college, and as soon as I saw them, a flood of memories came back to me. All just from seeing her handwriting. That's just one thing handwriting can do. I hope you find enjoyment in my sister's handwriting as much as I still do. This font is complete with alternates that will auto-typeset via the ligature feature to give a more handwritten feel.

It’s spring and the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom… and so is the new typeface by Neil Summerour and Positype. Cherry Blossoms is the new relaxed script family in the same vein as Good Karma. Produced from hand and sumi brush of Neil Summerour, Cherry Blossoms is a natural brush textured font family. While watching the 1947 holiday classic “Miracle on 34th Street”, one scene in particular presented a chance to develop a retro type design. ‘Kris Kringle’ suggests to a mother visiting with her child in the Macy’s toy department to try Gimbel’s for a toy she couldn’t find at the store. The news of this behavior reaches Mr. Macy himself, who embraces the practice as a brilliant marketing strategy. A number of departments are then presented with reference books containing competitor ads, and the visual of the cover stating “R.H. Macy & Co. Shopping Guide for the Convenience of Our Customers” shows on screen. The thin, Art Deco sans serif monoline with a few serif-like hooks added onto some characters became the basis for Shopping Guide JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Ever since I first designed Ellida in 2005, that elaborate script in the tradition of the 18th-century English calligrapher George Bickham and the 19th-century American calligrapher Platt Rogers Spencer, I wanted to add a very high contrast cut to the family. I finally did so. But the result looks so much different to Ellida that I had to give it another name, hence "Eloise". Eloise should actually be written with a 'i' that has double dots, but that would be difficult for international use. Eloise is a beautiful first name not only for French girls. Pronounce: Ay-low-eese. If I would have had a daughter, I would have called her "Eloise" (with double dots!). But instead I have two phantastic sons, so I never got the chance to use it. This work is inspired by creatures that I have drawn for my six year old boy. The monsters can be found at chrismetcalfe.com. I wanted to take their hair/fur and translate the fun attitude to type. To be honest I think this font is used best as display type. However the fun attitude lends to many usages without structure.
