MuskitoCaps is a Tuscan (split-serif) font that is rather narrow and a bit awkward. It is caps only, though the lower case differs from the upper case(the lower case lacks the mid-stem spike). The family has three styles, plain, shadowed, and shadowinside. The last has the same shapes as the plain style but has the spacing of the shadowed style so it can be layered with the shadowed style to easily produce bi-colored lettering.

Low stroke contrast, generous spacing, and fine-grained weights from Light to Extra Bold make FF Hertz a workhorse text typeface which holds up well under today’s widely varying output conditions from print to screen. The quite dark Book style works well on e-ink displays which usually tend to thin out letters, as well as in print when you want to evoke the solid letter image of the hot-metal type era. Two sizes of Small Caps are included: A larger size for abbreviations and acronyms, and a smaller size matching the height of the lowercase letters. FF Hertz is a uniwidth design, that means each letter occupies the same space in all weights. This feature allows the user to switch between weights (but not between Roman and Italic styles) without text reflow. Jens Kutilek began work on FF Hertz in 2012. From a drawing exercise on a low-resolution grid (a technique proposed by Tim Ahrens to avoid fiddling with details too early), it soon evolved into a bigger project combining a multitude of influences which up until that point had only been floating around in his head, including his mother’s 1970s typewriter with its wonderful numbers, Hermann Zapf’s Melior as well as his forgotten Mergenthaler Antiqua (an interpretation of the Modern genre), and old German cartographic lettering styles. Jens likes to imagine FF Hertz used in scientific books or for an edition of Lovecraftian horror stories.

Sirba, a serif typeface family with a friendly personality, was conceived especially for the demands in complex text environments like dictionaries, academic texts, annual reports, novels and magazines. It has many design features that were particularly designed with Sirba’s purpose in mind. Because of its open counters, the large x-height and its short ascenders and descenders, this typeface conveys a pleasant reading experience and high legibility even in small sizes. Sirba is a low-contrast typeface, contemporary but with a classical touch, revealing its beauty in design details, such as the asymmetrical bottom serifs, curved bracketing and calligraphically reminiscent terminals. Furthermore, the capitals appear integrated into the text, thanks to the low cap height, and the constant width of all tabular numbers between the weights make this typeface very usable in annual reports and tables. Sirba is available in the four classic styles plus a special heavy (Black) version, which is particular in that its proportions are designed so the counters remain big enough when set in very small text sizes. This means that Sirba Black’s spacing and letter width are rather generous in comparison to other typefaces of that colour. This ensures excellent legibility. During the design of the typeface family, much attention was given to the italic and regular as counterparts of each other. The italic distinguishes itself just enough while reading without creating strange spots within the text when looking at the text as a whole.

Linotype Bengali, a revival This project by Neelakash Kshetriymayum and Fiona Ross commissioned by Monotype is at heart a revival of the now ubiquitous original Linotype Bengali typeface designed by Tim Holloway and Fiona Ross (1978-1982) based on Ross’s research for her doctoral studies in Indian Palaeography. The new Linotype Bengali is informed by more recent research by Ross and Kshetrimayum resulting in additional glyphs that serve contemporary needs in a variety of genres – the original had been specifically designed for newspaper composition and in now outdated digital formats. The new design makes use of OpenType features with the employment of contextual vowel signs for Bengali – a feature that Ross and Holloway had first introduced in Indian scripts for the Adobe Devanagari typeface – and has sophisticated contextual mark positioning. Furthermore, whereas the original design had existed in only two typestyles, extensive work has been undertaken to produce this new design in 5 weights: Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black. It has been an important aspect of this project to remain true to the original design concepts, and so to achieve optimal readability for sustained reading at small type-sizes, but the additional weights enable differentiation in document design, and afford users scope to produce textural variety in their outputs. This revival design is intended to widen the hitherto very limited palette of typographic choices in the field of textual communication in Bengali, Assamese and other languages that make use of the Bengali script.

Schlange is a rich typeface with rounded terminals. The family includes five sans serifs and five slab serifs in weights from ultra light to bold. Schlange’s personality is determined by an open aperture and quite large lower case characters in comparison with the upper case set. Schlange’s personality is open and friendly, giving a text it’s used for a soft, warm appeal. Schlange will work well as a display type (think titles, short magazine call-outs, ad banners, and such), but it’s not a good choice for extensive bodies of academic text. Sybilla is a robust, but friendly, humanist slab serif well suitable for broad range of design projects. However, while Saul procrastinated in delivering his elder daughter for marriage, David fell in love with the younger daughter Mikal (1 Samuel 18:20,28). Mikal was the only wife who was reported to have loved David. Her name, Mikal, meant brook, or stream, a symbol of the water of the word. Mikal is a versatile and elegant script font; well suited in the area of magazines, web pages, packaging, logotypes and advertising, etc. This font can be used as body text for its good legibility and accurate kerning. This is a series that takes unfinished typefaces that were either previously ideated but not realized or were close to completion but left incomplete due to dissatisfaction with certain aspects, and brings them to completion. "Oorrnnoott" was originally a project named "Petitgothiquemignon" or "Sangoth". In the process of refining "Kropotokin", several ideas were incorporated into the design. Well, I say "incorporated," but it was designed on a whim, as usual. After all, it was started around 2005, and I don't usually leave notes or anything (which isn't the best habit), so I don't remember the emotions or thoughts behind its creation. Please consider this typeface as a very typical sans-serif font, as that is what I was aiming for when I excavated it this time.
