The redefinition of a classic In the 1920s the Viennese government decided to standardize the street signs across the city. A typeface was especially constructed for the purpose. It was available in a Heavy and a Bold Condensed version, to support short street names as well as longer ones. As the years went by, the typeface was adopted and redrawn by several enamel factories. These adaptations lead to variations on the design, and to the fact that there isn’t a Viennese street sign font but 16 – in part severely – different versions. Henriette is not a digitization of any of those versions; rather, it is influenced by all of them. The italic versions are completely original and designed to accompany the Roman.

Merlo Neue Round is the younger brother of Merlo Round and cousin of Merlo Neue. This new family received a refreshed, rounded style and a new shape of many glyphs. New Merlo consist of a wide range of instances' seven new weights with italics, from Hairline to Bold allows to use the family in a complex way, depending on the users' needs. Over the years, I've used Impact a lot. But, not because I liked it—rather because it was the only font I could find with the bulk I needed for a given title or whatever. I finally decided to make my own. It was originally built off Librum Sans Bold, but I quickly made a mask of Impact for the widths, bumped the x-height way up, made the horizontals much heavier, and on and on. You know how it is when you start designing. The result is a black sans with the bulk of Impact and much more interesting character shapes. I suspect I'll use it a lot. In the tradition of Goudy Old Style and Goudy Modern, Chong Wah drew Chong Old Style™ and Chong Modern™ as visually different – but complementary – designs. According to Chong Wah, “The extended family of typefaces started as a concept rather than a preconceived design. The concept is different sans serif type styles with a common underlying structure and a clear lineage to traditional serif designs. While there are similarities between the designs, each typeface was drawn as a separate entity.” Chong Old Style has the flavor of traditional old style designs without slavishly replicating the earlier design traits. It has the heft and color of an old style design but lacks the serifs and inclined stroke axis customarily seen in these typefaces. Chong Modern is a sans serif interpretation of the classic modern, or neoclassical, designs of Bodoni and Didot. Whoever knew the Red Menace could be such fun? This bold and bouncy face is based on a Cyrillic alphabet presented in the book Schrifti Alphabeti, published in the Soviet Union in 1979. It rollicks and frolicks, and might even fetch your slippers. Special thanks to Charles Barsotti for permission to use The Pup to promote this doggone-good product. The Postscript and Truetype versions contain a complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252); in addition, the Opentype version supports Unicode 1250 (Central European) languages as well.

Epitet, a subtle compact type family with a modern mixture of geometrical and simple shapes, comes in 6 weights, from Thin to Bold. It is a clean elegant sans serif typeface, with a small x-height.
