A series of lettering guides called “Mimeostyle” for the A. B. Dick Company of Chicago (produced for use in making mimeograph machine printing stencils) were custom manufactured by the Wright-Regan Instrument Company (Wrico). Steelplate Gothic Pro is a sans serif font family with traditional and drop shadow weights. It shares letterform similarities to conventional Copperplate Gothic families, but has no spur serif endings. Most of the original designs came from the Western Type Foundry when BB&S acquired it in 1918; all were cut by Robert Wiebking. It was recast in 1954 by American Type Founders (ATF). Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the original single weight in 1997. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew and expanded the family, adding entirely new condensed variants and true small caps. It is not only coarse but extremly black, and it is quite right to name it Black Letter in English. Ernst Schneidler, the designer, created the smallest possible counters. Still, this very coarse black letter is sensitive in detail and drawn with a high level of aesthetics. By the way, it was said in Schneidler's design class in Stuttgart that his number one student Walter Brudi had cut some of the characters with �silhoutte scissors� from black paper. Primot is an upright script heavily influenced by italian gelaterias . After releasing 3 sans serifs , we were looking for an opportunity to design a display type with less constraints for legibility and expression. We started playing with brush lettering and looking into vintage scripts from different eras. Some cool things that made it into Primot were some unusual vertical connections and the sweet brush flairs in the letter endings. From that point on, we set out to create a beautiful looking vertical script – something we don’t see that often – in which each word set could would make a nice piece of graphic design (think logos, video game titles, shop windows etc.). We also made it smart by including hand-lettering inspired features such as initial and final forms for letters, contextual alternates and swashes. The result is a versatile 900+ glyphs display typeface, suitable for a wide range of applications. We hope you have as much fun with it as we had designing it! Penang is a modern take on an old piece of Art Deco signage I had discovered in Penang Malaysia. The font is available in four styles: Regular, Bold and Italics of both. It looks great as All Caps but works equally well in standard copy. The font is loaded with plenty of extras and glyphs (256 but who is counting). I have various cuts of certain letters available as alternates to enhance whatever design you’re working on. I’m really happy with how this font finished, so I hope you enjoy using it.

A 1963 movie poster for an Italian documentary called “Sexy Nudo” had its title lettering in a free form spur serif design reminiscent of cut paper. This inspired Winkle Picker JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Despite the subject matter of the film documentary, the lettering on the poster is fun and playful, which meant the digital font deserved a fun name as well. It was named for a shoes and boots with sharp and long pointed toes which first gained popularity in the 1950s.

Indento is a multi-purpose modern geometric slab serif for headlines, posters, branding but fairly legible to be used as longer text. Vow is an incredibly stylised font, strutting its stuff on the typography catwalk. Vow does everything to excess, even when cutting down: where it’s curvy, it’s very curvy, but where it’s thin, it’s thin. Vow’s regular weight has a certain boldness at text size, but its ultra-thin alternative is much better used at larger sizes, managing to take up very little space even when scaled up. Using a mix of the two creates a subtle emphasis, especially when coloured, which helps to create stunning messages in elegant ways.

Galle is a very distinctive and specific typeface. It has 356 glyphs that are coherent in their own way. We have two versions to use: regular and italic. It is a display font with very characteristic letters, each of which has been developed separately, but in such a way as to match the rest of the typeface. The inspiration taken to design the cut is Sri Lankan typography - a lot of squiggles and sharp edges, hence the name of one of the prettiest and atmospheric cities in Sri Lanka - Galle.

MVB Hotsy Totsy is Akemi Aoki’s first typeface design. Aoki created the letters in cut paper. Once digitized, the design was expanded to offer several weights and styles. Exaggerating the triangular serifs and tapering strokes of “Latin” typefaces, MVB Hotsy Totsy is the perfect party face, appearing frequently on board games, product packaging, and in children’s books. It is named for (what was at the time) a dive bar in Albany, California. The bar has since been renovated but its neon sign was preserved, a local landmark of San Francisco’s East Bay.

Shelley Script was designed by Matthew Carter and appeared with Mergenthaler Linotype in 1972. It is based on intricate English scripts of the 18th and 19th centuries. The musical terms Andante, Allegro and Volante were chosen by Carter to describe the mood of the three different cuts of his font. Andante is the most reserved, Allegro has a few more flourishes, and Volante’s capital letters are surrounded with swirling strokes. Perfect for invitations or other cards, Shelley Script, like other fonts of its kind, seems to appeal particularly to America.

Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, commonly used in English for ice cream made in an Italian style. Gelato Sans designed by Ania Wieluńska is a humanistic typeface with geometric construction.
