In 1966 and 1967 a series of weird events spooked Point Pleasant, a small town in West Virginia. Townspeople described a creature that looked like a man, with red eyes and moth-like wings, which appeared at several locations around town. The Mothman myth was born. Mothman font is spooky as well. It is a very scratched and distorted typeface, completely hand drawn, using ink and various sharp utensils. Mothman font will surely leave a lasting impression!

‘Scion’ is an original design by Alex Kaczun. The inspiration for the typeface came from the Toyota SCION logo, which bears its name. In Alex’s own words, "I loved the simplicity, proportions and hi-tech look of the logo and decided to create an entire new design series based on its unique look". The fonts come in five flavors: thin, light, regular, bold and black. All the font weights were designed systematically on tabular widths so that the user can make adjustments to overall type color without changing the line length. In addition, Alex Kaczun has provided us with several alternate glyph substitions to further enhance the overall appeal of this contemporary new design. Rock Face was inspired by a crude but effective home made sign I came across advertising a garage sale. The lettering was created using sticky black insulation tape which, like a child's drawing, had a certain naive charm. The type design presented here is obviously more considered, but I like to think it has the same raw dynamism.

Hierra is a reinterpretation or redraw letter design of a font that appears in the collection of fonts of Dan X. Solo. Coop Blackletter's core concept was to create a more friendly blackletter typeface by pulling together two very different sources of inspiration. The design is a synthesis of the rounded, affable features and heavier weight of Cooper Black with the underlying composition and calligraphic contrast of a Fraktur. It's kinda chunky, soft around the edges, and not entirely unreadable.

The prolific hand lettering of Samuel Welo is showcased in his “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” (published in both 1927 and 1960). A thick and thin Art Deco design in the 1960 edition – somewhat reminiscent of Futura Black (but with significant differences) is now available as Sign Work Deco JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

A 1932 fan magazine from Spain entitled “Films Selectos” (“Select Films”) had those words hand lettered in a decorative Art Deco type style that was a cross between the “Futura Black” style of stencil influenced display lettering and “Fiesta” lettering. This hybrid design is now available digitally as Dance and Sing JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Braggadocio is a very black typeface. Braggadocio is a strange hybrid with characteristics of both sans serif and modern faces; and it belongs very much to its time. Like high society in the 1920's, it should not be taken too seriously. Use the Braggadocio font for display lines in advertising, magazines and light hearted communications.

I often experiment with different shadow techniques. One day I accidentally scaled, instead of repositioning, some black text behind the white copy on top and noticed something very different and interesting happen. It was an intriguing effect. It took some clever handiwork to make it work properly across the entire alphabet. And behold, Eclipse was born.

ITC Symbol font was designed by Aldo Novarese, a simple, straightforward design of understated elegance. It has just the hint of a serif to aid legibility. Book and medium weights have a light, even color and are perfectly complemented by the bold and black weights. The italics are clear and simple, a comfortable companion to the roman.

Birch Beer JNL comes from lettering spotted on a European business sign found in some stock footage that was used for an old black and white film about World War II. The name is derived from a popular root beer-like soda sold by the Royal Castle Restaurants that were popular in Florida from the 1930s through the 1970s.
