Camelia is an demi–slab display type family with reversed strokes to achieve an unexpected look and rythm. Was designed and optimized for use in large sizes. It is inspired by the geometric typefaces of the 1920s and the egyptiennes of the 1930s. An emphasis on circular and rectangular shape give it the identity.

In the 1889 Franklin Type Foundry specimen book is a type face called “Armenian”. With lighter weight horizontal slab serifs than more traditional Western fonts, it could be pictured as being used as copy on wanted posters or town notices. This is now available as TV Western JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

A 1940s ad flier for the Los Angeles restaurant “Lucca Paris Inn” had its name hand lettered at the top of the page in a condensed Art Deco slab serif with some stylized characters. Given a more uniform look, the end result became Dining Out JNL and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Dew is a script font with blobs on the stems that according to author’s imagination resemble dew drops on the caules. One of the type examples found within the pages of “Lettering” by Harry B. Wright (1950) is a bold hand lettered serif typeface with a unique twist – the slab serifs had rounded corners, looking very much like show card lettering of the early 1900s. Typedesigner Hannes von Döhren created Cowboyslang, a display typefamily with a Wild West flair. It consists of three widths plus fitting ornaments. Although it is based on the slab serif typefaces from the nineteenth century Von Döhren gave it a contemporary feeling. Cowboyslang has an extended character set to support also Central and Eastern European languages.

The slab serif typeface Calvert was designed by Margaret Calvert with a marked constructed look. The unique design of its serifs distinguishes this typeface. Many figures have only half serifs, for instance, the A, M, and X, which lends the typeface its constructed character. Calvert is timelessly modern, static and stable, and is therefore particularly good for headlines.

Halliday JNL was redrawn from impressions made by a rubber stamp sign printing set, thus providing the slight imperfection of line widths that gives a hand-made approach to the typeface. The lettering style is based on Beton Open Condensed, a clean and popular slab serif used for decades in print display titling and rubber stamp manufacture.

Songbook JNL is based on a promotional blurb from the back of a piece of vintage sheet music.
