This steam era typeface, created by Gustav Schroeder in 1884, found popular use on soap box labels and tobacco tins during its initial release. Then, later, a successful and stout revival of Gustav's face, named Othello, was carried out by Morris Fuller Benton in 1934, and the typeface's appeal widened to include items such as broadside posters featuring Boris Karloff's Frankenstein. After metal gave way to film type, Gustav's creation experienced a brief fashion moment in the 1960's, but then disappeared entirely, never re-surfacing as a full digital typeface. With the release of Bathysphere, the typeface comes full circle, having been completely redrawn from scratch using Gustav's original specimens. The new extended language support establishes the typeface firmly in the modern era, while Bathysphere's refinement of subtle blunt corners restores a deep-sea grace to this iron giant.

This rough font, was created inspired from a lot of various european documents dated from the end of 1600's. We were in search of a hand to accompany with "The Treasure Island" novel by R.L. Stevenson, and this seems to be the good one. It is a "Pro" font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. We have also included a few old English specific abbreviations. The numerous alternates (four sorts of standard lowercases and two sets of capitals) and numerous ligatures allow to made the font looking like a real various hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary each character without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options. The "Ru" version is a supplementary choice, offering Russian Cyrillics.

Zin Display is a contemporary typeface designed for various situations of typographic usage. At this time I found the Album of monograms – a guide for doing handicrafts in families and educational institutions. It was published in St. Petersburg in 18ХХ. Finally, I found an authentic English style monograms set. These monograms are characterized thin swirled lines and lush foliage patterns. Some time ago, when we were working on our Merrivale family, it occurred to us that an adaptation of the design, incorporating selected Blackletter elements, would be in the best traditions of 19th and 20th century blackletter revivals, which combine all the spirit of the middle ages with modern legibility-think of Goudy Medieval as an example. In the case of Merrivaux (best quality faux-medieval name there!) we've produced a typeface which has the ready legibility of Roman titling, but which gives a subtle blackletter feel. The regular form of Merrivaux is incised with a visible midline, a solid form with identical metrics is also offered. Both forms include a range of opentype features including ligatures, fractions, old style numerals and terminal forms. Merrivaux is ideal for posters, signage and design work, where a touch of that 'Olde-Worlde' feel is needed.

Bahar was inspired by the playful-energetic nature of Cooper Black from Souvenir's soft but confident stance and was born from the idea of creating a new structure by blending this structure with calligraphic strokes. The title and body are presented in two sets for perfect results. Bahar has a wide variety of character alternatives to create the perfect and fun title. It offers calligraphic flavors with swashes, start-finish forms, and fun ligatures. Bahar Text is prepared for Body texts and offers a good reading experience. Does not include swash and style alternatives. Bahar consists of five weights, Bahar Text four, a total of nine weights, and 18 styles with true italics. For each weight, there is a complete set of open type features including ligatures, small caps, old-style and table numbers, and positional numbers.

In the beginning of the 800s, during the reign of Carolus Magnus (or “Karolus”, as he signed himself), a great reformation of the written characters was conducted under the authority of Alcuin, Paul Diacre and Theodulfe. The new style, named “Caroline” script, was completely set up between 820 to 830. It was a regular script, with few ligatures, very legible, but only with lowercase. The capitals remained the old Romans ones. We have created the font to serve contemporary users, making a difference between U and V, and also between I and J, which had no relevance for ancient Latin scribes. We also added Thorn, Oslash, Lslash, W, and and the usual accented characters that did not exist at the time. Titlings (initial letters, without accents), historical and contextual alternates completes the set (in two separate files for MacOS9).

Roves is a font family dedicated to exploration, adventure and the early merchants of history. The word rove means “a journey, especially one with no specific destination; an act of wandering”. the family consists of three Stencil versions each with a Regular and Bold weight as well as two Sans versions each also with a regular and bold weight, this is a total of 10 different options to work with. When combined these two fonts create great looking typography that compliment each other but each also strong enough to be used on their own. The Roves family is a display font with a great rust vintage feel to it which gives the user an authenticity when working with typographic projects. Roves has been created with the designer in mind, to create with and explore the different options with in the family.

The Vtg Stencil fonts from astype are based on real world stencils from several countries. The Italian stencils that I chose as a model for this font are roughly based on classic French stencil letters. Please compare the figures (numbers) with their French counterparts. However, the Italian stencils are made with a different production technique. The design of the letters is clearly not punch-cut into the plates, maybe they are drilled, milled or etched. Details such as the serifs look bold and clumsy, and when using the stencils as they are meant, with viscous sign paint, smaller details easily fade away. So I took my freedom to design a font close to the original design but adding several typographic tweaks to let it shine, hoping to get closer to the intended design idea of these Italian stencils. Alex Kaczun, originally designed BottleKaps for Linotype-Hell, in 1992, as a QuickDraw GX multi-master font series. A few new GX applications, like 'Unicorn', where able to utilize these unique fonts. The GX application allowed the user to adjust weight and proportions, on the fly, including glyph substitution for small capitals, old style figures, swash and alternate endings. The technology was never successfully deployed by Apple, so the individual fonts, 21 styles and variations in all, where sold in the Linotype Font Library as separate Truetype fonts up until 1998. Unfortunately, the fonts collected dust for many years thereafter, but now have been reworked and rejuvenated by Alex in OpenType format for both Mac and PC. 'BottleKaps' is a 'unique', 'playful' and 'decorative' font series. Use it for those bold headlines to stimulate interest and show off your 'unique' individual style.

CA Cula is standing in the tradition of cool tempered sans serif typefaces like DIN. But at a closer look it reveals a tendency towards rounder reading-friendly forms. The denaturalized ink traps give CA Cula a very special and individual look in display sizes, whereas in smaller sizes the positive aspects of huge ink traps show effect. The text looks clean and bright without black dots in the typographic image. This makes CA Cula suitable even for longer text, while the bold weight makes pretty cool headlines. The choice of weights aims at an easy straight forward use. A set of five well balanced weights ought to be enough to cover most needs without throwing the typographer into questions like: demibold or semibold? If you are looking for the extra kick, look out for CA Cula Superfat.

Several years ago I was asked to do a sign for a rummage sale. To print the words RUMMAGE SALE, I took letters from some of the ornate fonts I was working on at the time. I liked the results, so made them into a font. Fonts from which the letters come include HippityDippity, Tuskcandy, Letunical, OakPark, WyomingStrudel, NeuAltisch, WyomingMacroni, WyomingPastad, and Rundigsburg. The original typeface had two variants of each letter, one on the upper-case keys and the other on the lower-case keys. The name of the original font, RummageSaleOne, acknowledged that a greater selection of letters was desirable but it was only with the upgrade of 2020 that the greater selection was added. The additional variants were added in two ways: as a separate typeface (RummageSale-Two) and also as OpenType stylistic alternatives.

Remember when you first saw the credits of a Woody Allen movie and thought, "I love that typeface!" Well, maybe that was just us. That typeface—Windsor (specifically Windsor Light Condensed)—is a classic. But it has problems. The letterforms are sometimes REALLY wonky. And the ampersand is a tragedy. Plus, there's no italic, and the weights and widths available in digital form are a hodgepodge. That's where Mrs. Keppel comes in. Alice Keppel, one of the most famous illegitimate members of the Windsor household ever, lends her name to this typeface family with numerous weights and a true italic. It's a slim serif with Edwardian leanings. She's approachable, she's refined. The 2nd installment of the Enchanted Land family takes us on another medieval adventure, opting to completely rebuild instead of refining the legacy script. 1st Ave is the most experimental of my typefaces. I took a picture of a metal and neon sign in the East Village of New York City. These signs are slowly being replaced by LED and LCD displays, but if you look hard, you can still find quite a few in the city. The signs give a mid 20th century feel to the city. To design 1st Ave, I took a picture of the sign, scanned it and increased the contrast in Photoshop so that the photographic forms became line art. There weren't enough letterforms in the sign to create the whole alphabet, so I cut up the strokes and collaged them back together to finish the entire alphabet. Important Note: 1st Ave is an experimental typeface and is not compatible with certain software such as Microsoft Word.
