State Of Love and Toast is a retro typeface reminiscent of the early 90’s. It’s certainly the Seattle of fonts. The font features auto ligatures for duplicate letters, quite a few graphical elements & shapes which can be accessed by shortcuts (lowercase letter + number form 0-9) and smallcaps (alternate versions of the lowercase letters).

Inspired by the decayed lettering on the signs at Siesta Key beach painted on weather-worn old wood in Florida, these letters are made to look like peeling paint.

In For The Birds, the letters are made by bird feet or bird tracks.

Dickybird Doodles? A dickybird is an ordinary bird, not a raptor or game bird. This illustration font has 32 of them. Birds in a cage, on a wire, in a nest. A flamingo, toucan, sandpiper, cardinal, penguin, heron, chicken & rooster, hummingbird, swan. Some line, some reverse and one with polka dots.

After Bird Script's ballet, Sproviero comes with these fast strokes, resulting in a font full of life and a youthful spirit. The aim of Live was again to see how far calligraphy & lettering could dive into the world of type-design. The font is perfect for logos, posters, magazines, perfumes and all pieces of design related to music, and the feminine world. Plumage is somewhat unusual in that it has elements of calligraphy as well as script in a semi-loose form that gives it a pleasing appearance for both large and small sizes, and interesting flare finish strokes add to its unique character. As I read a dictionary description of "plumage", I realized that in many ways there is a parallel between a bird's plumage and how it is utilized in the context of writing: Plumage varies in pattern and arrangement for different purposes; what it expresses can of course be even more interesting. Plumage is disposable after a season, as new ones become available... imagine, a self-sustaining quill! - I guess that's equivalent to a refill or disposable pen. Historically, quill pens were made from feathers of a variety of birds, each chosen for its special characteristics. The sturdiest and most reliable feathers, however, come from turkeys, swans and geese. Feathers used to make pens are the stiff-spined flight feathers on the leading edge of the bird's wing. Pens for right-handed writers come from the left wing, and pens for left-handers, from the right! Each bird yields 10-12 good quills, and sometimes only 2 or 3 - so small a yield that the geese reared in England could not furnish nearly enough for local demand, and quills were imported from the Continent in large quantities. At one point St Petersburg in Russia was sending 27 million quills a year to the UK. It is said that geese were specially bred by US President Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) to supply his own vast need for quills - in his lifetime he wrote almost 20,000 letters. The name "Plumage" was selected to pay homage to the noble birds that supplied countless quills for centuries of literary works. Plumage is recommended for any formal or informal invitation, decorations, awards, poetry, plaques, etc. We hope you will have the pleasure of using Plumage.

These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. Shapes that tessellate and also resemble real-world objects are often called Escher-like tessellations. This typeface contains Escher-like tessellations of birds. A number of years ago I decided to see how many of the 28 Heesch types of tessellations I could use to make birds standing on the backs of other birds. I found standing bird patterns for all 17 of the types that had either translated or glided edges. The TessieStandingBirds typefaces contain the standing-bird shapes that I discovered. At first glance they seem to be quite similar, but small differences matter in how they fit together. Most of the patterns require more than one character. The sample file here shows how pieces fit together to give tessellating patterns. Golondrina, spanish for swallow, a bird that cannot carry a coconut but migrates form north to south like the angles in this font. This is Avris, an exceptional and feminine stencil font. The base was designed in 2015. The word ‘avris’ derives from the latin rara avis, which means “rare bird”. Stencil fonts were initially designed for mass production and transportation companies. Unlike this one, Avris’ curvy and minimalistic design feels and looks like the wings of birds, flying above the quiet ocean. It also has a roman, calligraphic and cryptographic touch to it. A light chancery script font influenced by both the hand-held pen and the typefounder’s machinery. The curves are reminiscent of the beak of the avocet, a wading bird. This font was originally engraved in metal and copper matrices made for casting into hot metal type for letterpress printing.

Merganser is a Typeface intended for text and copy and was inspired to serve the avid community of Birders. Birders and birding material historically have a lot to say. Merganser serves that tendency because its designed legible at small scales. The Natural world also inspires the slightly humanist strokes of Merganser. Merganser was created as part of the Type@Cooper winter certificate in Type Design.
