The Times Europa Office family is designed after the model of the original serif family produced by Walter Tracy and the Linotype Design Studio in 1974. A redesign of the classic Times New Roman typeface, Times Europa was created as its replacement for The Times of London newspaper. In contrast to Times New Roman, Times Europa has sturdier characters and more open counter spaces, which help maintain readability in rougher printing conditions. Times Europa drastically improved on the legibility of the bold and italic styles of Times New Roman. Overall, text set in Times Europa is easier to read, and quicker to digest. Akira Kobayashi, Linotype’s Type Director, brought Times Europa up to speed for the new millennium in 2006. Now optimized for office communication instead of newspaper design, Times Europa Office offers a familiar yet refreshingly new appearance for serif text. Because of The Times of London’s specific printing conditions in the early 1970s, Times Europa originally had some intentional errors built into its letterform design. These inconsistencies created an even image in newspaper text in the long run. However, these design elements bear no role on modern office communication and its needs. Kobayashi redrew these problem forms, eliminating them completely. Now Times Europa’s font weights appear clearer and easier to read than ever before.

Shelf is a humanistic sans-serif font of cool and solid character. Its frugal, clean and organic drawing as well as its name were inspired by the ice shelf landscape. Shelf was designed as a universal tool for creating a coherent information and navigation systems with accompanying publications, such as visual identity of exhibitions including catalogues. It is suggested to set long texts in Roman and Italic, while the best combination for a wayfinding system is Roman and Oblique. Every weight, therefore, contains Roman, Italic and Oblique versions. Warren Chappell was the original designer of this handsome pen-formed roman typeface introduced by the Stempel Foundry in 1939. It was cast in Germany as Trajanus and named after the Roman emperor whose accomplishments are preserved on the Trajan Column in Rome. This version, Tribunus, retains the same rugged but handsome quality of the oldstyle original. A set of italic oldstyle figures are included with the italic roman. Tribunus is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Advanced features currently work in Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress 7. In his 1538 book on measurement, Albrecht Dürer gave clear descriptions and drawings about the proportions of the letters in both Roman and 'fraktur' alphabets (from Latin 'fractura', meaning that it's broken up with lots of different angles rather than smooth curves). Here is the fraktur alphabet as a font completed for use today, with a few characters modernised and some gaps filled. Of course there are countless examples of fraktur fonts already circulating, and indeed one foundry even has another version of this particular one; but we have different approaches to some of the questions raised, we have aimed at a more even tracking (horizontal spacing), and the 260 glyphs in our version include accents and other diacritics, and the modern symbols which Dürer would surely have embraced if he had had access to the internet.

This family was inspired by the edition De Civitate Dei (by Sanctus Augustinus) printed in 1467 in Sobiano (Italy, Roma) by Konrad Sweynheym and Arnold Pannartz who was the Punchcutter. It is one of the first few “Roman style” fonts, just before the birth of Jenson’s pattern (look at 1470 Jenson Latin). The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and ligatures used in the original (about 54). Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing. Decorated letters such as 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian, or 1584 Rinceau can be used with this family without anachronism. If Italic style is required (not yet existing in early time of printing), we recommend using 1557 Italique.

Mario De Libero designed Swanstone while investigating XIX Century Old Style typefaces. Designs like Theophile Beaudoire’s Romana (1860) or Miller & Richard’s Modernized Old Style, that re-imagined the classical “Venetian” letterforms adding flared serifs and early Art Nouveau influences. Rhaetic or Raetic (/ˈriːtɪk/), also known as Rhaetian, was a Tyrsenian language spoken in the ancient region of Rhaetia in the eastern Alps in pre-Roman and Roman times.
