It’s surprising - it can take more time and effort to make something deliberately and artfully imperfect than it does to make a more conventional design. We certainly found this to be the case when designing ‘SpeedSketch’. Perhaps a more accurate name would have been ‘SlowDraw’ but that wouldn’t really capture the essence of the finished design.

I always thought, that I should design a really bold version and now finally I did. But I think it should not be mixed together with the normal version. Broken Vows was one of two typefaces I created to go along with some fragmented poetry written as I went through a divorce, the second being WHORE. The letterforms contain fragments of familiar script faces that are attempting to hold themselves together. Some of the connecting elements of the letterforms remain and hold the face together.
