Bartosh is the American short form for Bartholomew. Although I chose this font name because of its sound and its short conciseness, I also liked the fact that Bartholomew had been one of the 12 apostles who had worked in India and Iran and the idea that his spirit could be the inspiration for my work.Bartosh was designed for display on the screen: the large x-height and the clear, open shapes facilitate readability. As a result, it develops a strong expression of character and makes it ideal for headings or highlighting individual text passages – it is ideal for captions of any kind. In each of the six weights, it unfolds its own and special charm. The extra-bold version is particularly noteworthy because fonts in this stroke width are rare and it is precisely these extreme bolds that give them a special graphic appeal.For all fonts there are matching italics in a well-developed set of 677 characters. My affection for Slab Serifs began in the early 1960s in Kansas City when Rob Roy Kelly was at the Kansas City Art Institute, teaching and writing his book on American Wood Type. I got to know him just well enough to gain access to his fabulous collection of wood type and wood type catalogs. Later, in the1970s, I tried to re-create a Nebiolo Egiziano for Roger Black at New West magazine. And again for Roger, in the 1980s, I designed a Slab Serif logo for Newsweek Magazine. Finally, in 2003, designed the Sutro Family. There were things I didn't like about it, so, over time, I’ve been adding some things and dressing it up a little. Sutro Shaded has existed for a few years as a one color, outlined, drop-shadowed display font. It seemed like it was just dying for a little color. I added five more fonts: Fill, Gradient, Hatching, Rules and HiLite. These fonts can be used in different combinations to achieve various effects. In 1496, he used a new roman typeface to print the book de Aetna, a travelogue by the popular writer Pietro Bembo. This type was designed by Francesco Griffo, a prolific punchcutter who was one of the first to depart from the heavier pen-drawn look of humanist calligraphy to develop the more stylized look we associate with roman types today. In 1929, Stanley Morison and the design staff at the Monotype Corporation used Griffo's roman as the model for a revival type design named Bembo. They made a number of changes to the fifteenth-century letters to make the font more adaptable to machine composition. The italic is based on letters cut by the Renaissance scribe Giovanni Tagliente. Because of their quiet presence and graceful stability, the lighter weights of Bembo are popular for book typography. The heavier weights impart a look of conservative dependability to advertising and packaging projects. We love sports – like billions of fans all over the world – but in Argentina, we really love fútbol (soccer). Fútbol is part of our culture: it makes our hearts’ race and our pulses quicken, it inspires screams of joy and screams of anguish, and it has been the cause of more than a few heated conversations amongst friends. So you can imagine our delight when, in recent years, a local team’s fútbol jersey used a Sudtipos font; it got us thinking about designing a font that explicitly had sports in mind yet still had the versatility to work for other types of projects. Sporty has a geometric and modular structure with many potential applications that far exceed jerseys, score boards and stadium wayfinding. Its flexibility is evident when examining its four style – from a square style to a rounded one – as well as the Shadow and Inline options. For over 30 years, Tomás Vellvé created beautiful graphics and distinctive typefaces in his native homeland of Spain. Since the release of these fonts most typefaces in the Scangraphic Type Collection appear in two versions. One is designed specifically for headline typesetting (SH: Scangraphic Headline Types) and one specifically for text typesetting (SB Scangraphic Bodytypes). The most obvious differentiation can be found in the spacing. That of the Bodytypes is adjusted for readability. That of the Headline Types is decidedly more narrow in order to do justice to the requirements of headline typesetting. The kerning tables, as well, have been individualized for each of these type varieties. In addition to the adjustment of spacing, there are also adjustments in the design. For the Bodytypes, fine spaces were created which prevented the smear effect on acute angles in small typesizes. This font is based on the Latin-based font for Linear B syllable writing. It contains all the characters. Linear B was a syllabic script that was used for writing in Mycenaean Greek, the earliest attested form of Greek. The script predates the Greek alphabet by several centuries. The oldest Mycenaean writing dates to about 1400 BC. It is descended from the older Linear A, an undeciphered earlier script used for writing the Minoan language, as is the later Cypriot syllabary, which also recorded Greek. Linear B, found mainly in the palace archives at Knossos, Cydonia, Pylos, Thebes and Mycenae, disappeared with the fall of Mycenaean civilization during the Late Bronze Age collapse. Edita is a gentle typeface, humanistic in concept yet with a contemporary feel, where softness and fluidity play a very important role. This can be seen especially in its italics, which are loosely based on handwriting. This book typeface family is intended to be used in books where text is set together with photographs and other graphic elements. However, Edita is a general book typeface, versatile enough to be used in many other contexts, from novels to promotion material. Edita’s large character set, covering most languages which use Latin script, and styles give the designer the possibility to work with a big typographic palette, allowing complex typesetting with several levels of information. This is further enhanced by the two optically corrected weights Edita Small and Small Italic. They have been particularly designed for their use in very small type sizes, such as in captions and notes. They differ in having a slightly bigger x-height, heavier stems, reduced contrast, and carefully drawn ink-traps to ensure legibility at sizes as small as 5 pt. Additionally, their extenders are shorter to save space which allows text to be set with tighter leading.

The "Newbeats" typeface came about after watching the film A Hard Day's Night starring the Beatles, hence the name "Newbeats". The font was on the poster of the film and based on these letters I designed a full alphabet, complete with ligatures. The font has been fully digitized and fine-tuned to make it possible to use in all software applications and graphics programs. Whomever sees the font for the first time would think this is a totally new font; it has a modern look despite the mid-60s feel that I have tried to preserve. Praxis™ was designed in 1976 by Gerard Unger for the German technology corporation Dr.-Ing Rudolf Hell. Praxis is the sans serif counterpart to Demos, another early digital type designed by Unger, who is an accomplished Dutch typographer and teacher. Praxis and Demos share important characteristics, such as open counters, a tall x-height, and blunt stroke terminations. Both faces have very little thick/thin variation, which facilitates smooth linear enlargement and reduction. And like Demos, Praxis is a flexible and legible typeface that works well in small point sizes and on low-quality paper (office documents, newsletters, newspapers, etc.). The word "Praxis" comes from Greek, and means "a practical application." In the late 1990s, Demos and Praxis, along with Univers 57, were selected as the official typefaces of the German Government. A few years ago I've discovered the work of one of the most prolific typeface designers of the Bruce type Foundry in NYC during late nineteenth century. Browsing Julius Herriet's work I found a very unique kind of ligatures in his patented "Old Style Ornamented" type design. Some letters were designed with a little top tail that allowed them to connect to each other. After that, I found that he also designed a single italic weight of the same font 7 years later. Since the beginning of the Opentype days I’ve been deeply obsessed with exploring different ways to build ligatures, so that lead me up to this point where I felt the need to create “Plethora”, this new font inspired by Herriet’s work. Extrapolating weights, adding variable technology and playing with additional interconnected letters and alternates. Definitely, Plethora means a large or excessive amount of something, and this font tries to bring back this abundance of details two centuries later. Available in 9 weights, from roman to italic, and also as variable format, “Plethora” supports plenty of latin languages and is a perfect choice for today’s design tides.

MVB Solano Gothic Bold was originally designed as a display face for the City of Albany, California (located on the San Francisco Bay facing the Golden Gate Bridge and bordering Berkeley). Named for the City’s main street, the typeface needed to work on signage in proximity to early 20th Century buildings, and in contemporary settings. Rather than creating a neutered design to cover all bases, Mark van Bronkhorst chose to develop a simple, strong, condensed face that would offer flexibility of style by providing both retro and more contemporary forms. Solano Gothic has since been expanded to a family offering five weights from Light to Bold. The basic fonts provide upper- and lowercase forms, with figures designed to harmonize within upper- and lowercase settings (the standard figures are not full cap height). The same figures are provided with Small Caps, and align to small cap height. For all-cap settings requiring figures and monetary symbols of full-cap height, there are the “Cap” fonts. An alternate tabular “1” is provided in all fonts so that both fitted and tabular settings of figures are possible (access to alternate characters subject to system or application support).

Salome is a revival, normalization and elaborate expansion of a 1972 film face called Cantini. The original film type, released by a tiny independent outfit called Letter Graphics, looked like it was hand drawn with little consideration for consistency in essential lettering flow measurements, like angles, stroke widths, and vertical metrics. All these issues have been resolved in this digital version, and the original character set, including the whole lot of alternates, was entirely redrawn and expanded to include even more alternates and many useful ligatures, as well as extended support for Latin-based languages. Combining elements of early 20th century art nouveau with common 1960s and 1970s signage and poster lettering flair, Salome uses curls and curves to wave its fantastic shapes in a most hypnotic dance. This collection of elegant floral and foliage borders has been put together with their original decorated rules, as well as alternate matching precision rules for added versatility. You can start with a new document or work on a new layer within an existing document. Select MFC Botanical Borders from the font menu. (Some users may have font previewing enabled in the font menu which will cause the font name to appear as border elements, disable this option in order to choose the name) Make certain that the point size of the font is the same as the leading being applied to the font so the borders will meet up properly. After the popular successes of Exocet and Mason, Emigre has once again teamed up with Jonathan Barnbrook to bring you his latest venture into type land. Priori is a logical progression from Mason, a typeface he designed around ten years ago. Where Mason was designed purely for display purposes and featured only caps, Priori includes lower case, companion serif and sans serif versions, alternates and, according to its creator, is shooting for text face status - a bold claim from a designer who loves to wear his influences on his sleeve and who has little use for typography that aspires to be "neutral" or "transparent." Like many of Barnbrook's typeface designs, Priori is based on his interest in British typography of the early 20th century. It is inspired by the work of famous British typographers, such as Eric Gill and Edward Johnston. But it also embraces all of the signage and lettering that Barnbrook observes in the streets, cathedrals, and public buildings of his London neighborhood. This mixing of native influences with a contemporary pop culture intent is what gives Barnbrook's types a distinct and unique flavor. Like its creator, Priori is a one of a kind.
