The font "Lugo" is a heavy typeface designed for use in headlines and caption text. Their design has a strong visual impact, a persuasive and seductive personality throughout its organic shapes. This is a versatile and expressive font. Lugo can create an appealing atmosphere, conveying a gamut of message and emotions. It is well suited in the jobbing areas like packaging, logotypes, magazines, web pages and advertising, etc. Lugo has all the advantages of OpenType features that allow a variety of combinations: You may choose to set types in connected or unconnected ways, being used as body text or headlines for its good legibility, visual impact and accurate kerning. The Celtic name Lug suggests that it may have been a sacred site. Augustus founded the Roman town of Lucus Augusti in 15-13 BCE following the pacification of this region. It is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls.

FF Signa is a typically Danish typeface, rooted in architectural lettering rather than book typography. Originally designed for signage—hence the name—FF Signa is now a typographic family with three widths. All weights include italics, small caps, and several styles of figures. Because of the quality of this “vernacular-lettering-into-typeface” conversion, FF Signa received a Danish Design Prize in 2002. FF Signa is radically different from most sans serif text typefaces that were published during the 1990s. It neither belongs in the “humanist sans” category, nor is it on the list of typefaces based on 19th-century grotesques. Its concise letterforms and a minimum of detail produce clear and harmonious word images. Yet its proportions are classical, and the underlying geometry has been subtly adjusted in order to create letterforms which are at once interesting, harmonious, and contemporary. These features make FF Signa pleasant for reading, even at very small sizes. The typeface has developed into a versatile family, with Condensed, Extended, and Correspondence versions. Later on Signa Serif, Stencil variants and a Signa Slab family added even more versatility. The resulting FF Signa type system may be used for corporate identities, brochures, magazines, communication, books, and on-screen publications.

Italiano Fushion is part of an expanding project on which we have been working for several years and which we are committed to in the future. Like the first two, this one too starts from the study of the great Futurist adventure of the early 1900s by great artists such as DEPERO and MARINETTI, who twisted the world of typography with shapes and colors. Hiragino Sans Rounded (Maru Gothic) is derived from the basic design of the Hiragino Sans (Kaku Gothic) with its wide counters and comfortable appearance. It features gentle typeface that provides graceful roundedness to the tips of all the strokes of a character. On the flip side of this gentle impression is the fact that every single element in the Hiragino Sans upon which this typeface is based has been carefully polished down in every respect in pursuit of an elegant roundness that makes it possible to handle carefully executed typesetting. That approach is clearly different from the general rounded typeface that makes full use of the body, and makes it possible to respond the requirement of professional typesetting. It is never-uninteresting design whose letterform is rooted in the traditions of traditional printing type. It is a font that of course can be used on its own and easily formatted just like Hiragino Sans while adding splendid coloring to the page. Furthermore, when used with other Hiragino fonts such as Hiragino Sans or Hiragino Serif (Mincho), the fact that all their designs are oriented on the same vector creates a multiplier effect. The user may be surprised at the sense of unity that cannot be experienced when combining it with other typefaces.

Idealista directly responds to its other members, Nudista and Kulturista. It shares the same proportions and the same set of weights, yet it enriches the expression means of the two typefaces with new themes — the character set is smooth, even round, and it boasts a number of special details and perky moves. Most of all, Idealista relishes juicy magazine titles, typographic logotypes and propagandist posters. Ladoga — one of the most beautiful Russian designs from the soviet period. The type family was developed in Polygraphmash in 1968 by Anatoly Shchukin on the base of his own lettering for book covers and titles. It was one of the first attempts in Cyrillic typography to create text face in a style of renaissance antiqua. Stylization to broad pen calligraphy resembles early forms of Latin types that were based on handwritten humanistic minuscule. Unique in its character set digital version of Ladoga was designed by Viktor Kharik on the base of artworks of Shchukin for ParaType. The family consists of roman and italic styles in text and display versions. Character set includes characters of original shapes as well as more modern alternatives. Besides there are a set of additional characters, old style figures and small caps. The fonts cover all modern languages based on Latin and Cyrillic scripts, Greek alphabet (including polytonic extension), Hebrew and historical Cyrillic letters. Ladoga is gorgeous in display sizes and pretty readable in texts. It’s well suitable for fiction literature, historical books, art criticism, religious and philologist works. It will be extreme helpful for multilingual issues and for inclusions into body text historical passages in original orthography. The family was released in 2010.

A rare natural history book from the early 18th century served as inspiration for the MVB Sirenne typefaces. The artisan who engraved the book—likely a map engraver—had a distinctive style of lettering that was used on the descriptive captions for the many tropical fishes depicted in the book. The plates used to print the illustrations would have been copper, the letterforms hand-engraved. The designers at MVB Fonts found the distinctive quirks of the roman letterforms and the eccentric stress of the italic interesting enough to embark on developing digital fonts based on the engraved samples. As the captions were hand-lettered, there was a great degree of variation, making a direct “revival” impossible, so Alan Dague-Greene interpreted the characteristics of the letterforms into a workable typeface design. The challenge was to retain a rustic quirkiness to the forms, yet have a typeface that was useful for more than display. The solution was to make optical sizes. The “Six” faces are full of character, but strong and open for clarity at small sizes. The design of the “Text” faces is more subtle, so that they can be used for passages of text, but retain the feel of their model. MVB Sirenne “Eighteen” and “Seventy Two” are intended for display use.

Road Stencil is a font based on painted street markings. The letters are stretched roughly six times their normal height so that when viewed from an angle, the text is seen as proportional. If you're looking to Photoshop a street scene, this is your font. This is an all caps font, but the letters were copied to lower-case for convenience. In these forms, I've preferred to use horizontal and diagonal dividers instead of verticals which can weaken the fonts readability. This font embodies a pleasant aesthetic while maintaining a coherent and believable feel. Check out the 'Rough' version of this font, which has more of a 'drawn on asphalt' look. The rough version's lower case letters have eroded alternates.

From the same page of a vintage German lettering textbook entitled “50 Alphabete fur Technikur und Fachschulen” (loosely translated to “50 Alphabets for Technicians and Specialized Schools”) that inspired Trippy Hippy JNL comes Eleckatrical Banana JNL. It’s another novelty, free form Art Nouveau hand lettered alphabet that works well in recreating 1920s period pieces or for designing a retro-inspired rock and roll concert poster reminiscent of the 1960s. The name of the typeface is from a line in the 1966 pop hit “Mellow Yellow by Donovan (Leitch), and his extended pronunciation of ‘electrical’: “…E-lec-a-tric-cal’ banana is going to be the very next craze…” Caps only Fonts. Eleckatrical Banana JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Eroika Slab is a robust, display serif, intended to be set large. While for most serifs, display means high contrast, Eroika's "displayness" stems from its wide stance, tight spacing, equal cap and ascender heights, flared stems and large x-height. The italics in particular are quite unorthodox, with their vertical serif cut-offs and foot serifs where most fear to tread ('scuse the pun). All fonts feature a useful array of stylistic sets, oldstyle figures, automatic fractions and case sensitive forms. All ligatures are in the discretionary section, as it's my belief that this typeface looks better without them, but I like to offer the choice. Perfect for book covers, craft beer logos, boxing paraphernalia and tattoo magazine pull quotes. And probably a whole lot more besides!

Pacific Script is a font inspired by an alphabet created by Howard Trafton in the 1930s. However, I felt it needed some changes to bring it to the cutting edge of 21st century font design. Though designed as a display font, it works very successfully in longer passages of text, however, it should not be used in font sizes less than about 15 point. Small x height in contrast to extravagant caps gives the font a very dramatic feel. Though it has cursive qualities, the characters in this font do not connect, making it slightly more legible and less like handwriting. The inclusion of 26 alternate upper case characters give the user the freedom to create a hand crafted design. Language support includes all European character sets.

The Carlin Script family, inspired by the Carolingian minuscule alphabet (ca 800 A.D.), is one of the great new families available through Linotype's Library's Take Type 5 collection. Weaving is a family in which the letters fit together so that wavy lines separate them both horizontally and vertically. It creates this effect by alternating letters on upper-case keys with those on lower-case letters and this alternating is done automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature of contextual alternatives (calt). (The upper-case can be used alone but it unlikely that the lower-case characters could be used by themselves.) The family is a thinner and condensed version of the typeface Woven, but in condensing it, the tessellation properties that a were in Woven are lost. It is a decorative display face but because there are few typefaces similar to it, it is hard to predict what uses it may have. Be creative!

If you are looking for a unique typeface with a light and pure elegance, Marlowe will be your choice. Back to 1880-1900 when a number of events were coming together, the country was evolving from a local market economy to mass merchandising, rail systems were being built and color lithography was becoming more affordable. The first rail cars full of oranges were being shipped from Southern California to the East - what a treat during a cold winter’s day. Labels were pasted on every fruit crate and these labels had large images of oranges and orange groves. With technological advances in soldered cans, canneries popped up all over the country. In order to market their products many California Canneries pooled their resources to form the California Fruit Canners Assn. in 1899. This font was inspired from that era. Loaded with alternates, swashes, stylistic and multilingual support.

Calgary Script was mostly inspired by a brush script on a Welcome To Calgary sign in, you guessed it, Calgary. Though now, after it's finished, I can easily tell the influence is evident of all the books on American sign painting I have absorbed over the years. The overall effect of the font is similar to something that Fonzied itself, big hair and leather jackets and all, out of the early 1980s, but the feeling really dates back to a few decades earlier. Heady caps and free-flowing lowercase make for a speedy, determined, and instinctively organized buffalo herd of a typeface. This is a packaging font with a true supermarket sign spin, with OpenType features including ligatures, alternates, and ordinals specifically made to follow numbers.

ZT Arturo is a sans serif family designed by Francesco Canovaro as part of his research in the digital reinvention of handmade brush lettering. Marrying a fun, playful approach to letterforms to the versatility of a text family with multiple weights and advanced features, Arturo comes in seven weights with matching italics, and sports a wide array of OpenType features including stylistic alternates, small caps and discretionary ligatures (providing options for display usage and fine-tuning in logo design) as well as more offbeat features as ordinals, superior and inferior numerals, tabular, lining and oldstyle figures and OpenType-generated fractions.  The family is complemented with a outline version that can be used on its own or together with the heavy weight for multi-layer color font inventions.

Alexander Quill was originally designed in the early 1980s to be cut in 14 point for casting into foundry type for the setting and printing of limited edition books at Pie Tree Press, Jim Rimmer's private sanctum. This alphabet exhibits traditional calligraphic tension, which helps its simple, somewhat octagonal forms play well together for an easy read. Its setting expresses a dramatic sense of history or fantasy. Alexander Quill was updated and remastered for the latest technologies in 2012. It comes with plenty of built-in alternates, a glyphset of over 410 characters, and supports the majority of Latin-based languges. 20% of this font's revenues will be donated to the GDC Scholarship Fund, supporting higher typography education in Canada.

This family was inspired by the pure Jenson set of fonts used in Venice to print De preparatio evangelica in the year 1470. The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and ligatures used in the original. Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing, also small caps, these, contained in a separate file in the Mac TT version. This font supports strong enlargements as easily than small size remaining very smart, elegant and fine. Decorated letters like 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian 1584 Rinceau or other fonts from GLC Foundry, can be used with this family without anachronism.
