To tell you the truth, I don’t know what a juicy advice is - other than I guess it’s something positive and maybe even helpful. Well, what I do know is that this Juicy Advice is positive, helpful and playful. It’s a handmade comic font, with an outline version to compliment the Regular version. The outline version is also handmade, but not entirely sticking to the boundaries of the shapes of the Regular version. This leaves the outline somewhat off, but deliberately in order to keep the authentic feeling.

Frank Flowers are fonts with flowery embellishments. They are useful for all kinds of celebrations, but they also have lots of impact. There are only uppercase letters even on the lowercase keys. Uppercase and lowercase look different, so you can mix them. You can even mix the two sets, it'll look great. I had a lot of fun doing these fonts and I want you to have some fun as well. Ceebo is a friendly sans-serif, which show some aspects of a humanist and grotesque typeface. It retained more details of writing and got some forms and characteristics of an italic. The font contains some alternative glyphs. It also contains some ligatures and discretionary ligatures. In addition, there are adjusted figures and additional character for uppercase letters, lowercase letters and small caps, which react by OpenType-Feature. The font was designed to stay legible also in small sizes: beside as possible open counters, a tall x-high, distinct vents and cuts, it especially are the details of the glyphs which make it discernable. The regular weight is slightly thinner than other sans-serif fonts, moreover the diacritics and small glyphs were designed for small sizes by taller and more open forms. The resulting “ruggedness” is mellowed by half-rounded stems and pointed stem ends.

I was working at Bozell Worldwide, an advertising agency, on their yearly promotional pitch. An art director was looking for a condensed informal headline treatment to be used on one of the new ad campaigns. I took several different font designs and started to condense and scale the proportions in the hopes of finding several good solutions. They finally settled on a version of Times Roman, scaled horizontally to about 50 percent proportions. I liked the look so much that I later went back to the drawing board and refined the concept by adding slanted serifs and a varying alignment on all the letter forms giving the typeface a very casual and informal appearance. At about that time, I was reading a book by Jack Kerouac, and was so inspired by his writings on the ‘beat generation’ that I decided to name the font ‘Beatnik’. Afterwards, I added a set of true small capitals and old style figures. I'm currently working on additional weights and variations to expand this ‘hip’ new font series. Groovin' baby.

Bang was designed by David Sagorski in 1993 as a playful font of spirals. It consists of two capital alphabets which can be combined like the usual capitals and small caps, although both have the same height. They differ from one another only in the decorative forms which adorn them and the highly decorated characters of one set are complemented by the slightly more reserved characters of the second. Serious this font is not, rather, with its circles and spirals, Bang is best in point sizes 12 and larger and is meant for short texts and headlines.

A 1930s advertising poster for the Inman Brothers Flying Circus offered up an interesting hand lettered Art Deco design that’s a cross between both squared and rounded character shapes. Because of it's 'futuristic look', the resulting type style can also lend itself to 1970s and 1980s retro projects as well as those from the 1930s and 1940s. Now a digital font, Air Circus JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. A “Flying Circus” is a troupe of ‘barnstormers’ (stunt pilots) who performed aerial tricks either individually or as a team along with selling airplane rides to the general public.

Bobbi Bee won't stop popping her bubblegum, even though that's not very ladylike.

 Bobbi Bee is very proud of all of her 361 numbers, letters and alternates - all of which are chock full of summer sunshine and life. The font comes in a single weight (because she's perfect just the way she is.) She's cut out for a very special book title, logotype, or love letter. Keep Bobbi's hand firmly in yours in shopping malls, as she tends to get distracted and wander, and though it's hard, always remember to tell her how smart she is, as well as how beautiful.

As a family, we love to go camping. We have a big Norwegian tunnel tent (4 season - with room for a wood stove), some really warm down sleeping bags and a primitive field kitchen. Even though our camping trips are usually devoid of luxury, the kids love them! We always choose campsites that are close to nature, like a national park or in the mountains. A couple of years ago, we toured the southern part of England and one of our camping stops was in Exmoor National Park. Minehead is a small coastal town, not far from where we camped, so I named this font after a fond memory! Minehead is a handmade display font. It was loosely based on Haettenschweiler. Use it for your packaging, your tourist information leaflets and your book covers. And do visit Minehead one day!

The future is square! Well, at least according to Turbo Modul! Maybe the future is square, but it is also funky - just like Turbo Modul ... and its pretty unpredictable! Turbo Modul is loaded with alternative letters with arrows pointing in all directions, all made to pimp your designs! I've also added ligatures to substitute double letters, and there's a slight difference from caps and lowercase. Wow! That's a lot of different combinations! I tell you what ... I take a look at the posters I've made, and hopefully it will make you want to try out the font. I had a lot of fun doing the font, and maybe you will have a lot of fun using it! ;)

Praho Pro is a part of Warsaw Types – a project based on Warsaw’s local typographic heritage. The project, presented at the Museum of Praga, is a collaboration of 12 young Polish typographers. Praho Pro is a multilingual family inspired by the unique, historical character of Praga district of Poland's capital - Warsaw. High contrast, thin serifs, sharp terminals and large x-height are key features for distinctive headlines. The whole family consist of 9 weights and real italics, small caps, superscript and subscript letters, oldstyle, tabular figures and fractions. It covers latin and cyrillic script. Every weight has almost 2000 glyphs.

SK Merih is a geometric sans serif and semi-condensed font family. “More is better” may have been the motto of Richard Austin of Austin and Son’s Imperial Letter-Foundry on Worship Street at Finsbury Square in London when he designed and cut his Antique typeface. The year it was created is uncertain, but it is known to have appeared in a specimen book produced in 1827. At first glance, the upper case letters of Austin Antique look very much like Figgins Antique. But, upon examination, one will note that the Austin face is much darker. In general, the letters designed and cut by Richard Austin have fatter strokes, larger serifs and smaller counters -- more metal and less daylight. The premise was that the darker the letter, the more attention an ad using the typeface would receive. In old pictures of London and Paris one may see walls crowded with posters and “bills” -- competing for the attention of the passerby. Morris and Updike aside, the early nineteenth century marked the beginning of a commercial as well as industrial revolution. Patterns of commerce were changing. With new methods of marketing came the need for new typefaces to support the new methods. Foundries found the display types were very profitable and competed most energetically and creatively for the trade. There was a lot of trial-and-error. Some ideas faded away. Others, like the Antiques or Egyptians, were refined and developed. From them came the Clarendons that were to prove both popular and long lasting -- because they worked. Their job was to sell goods, not please the aesthetic sensibilities of the critics. They did their job well. Austin Antique has a full Western European character set, plus the following ligatures: ct, st, fi, fl, ff, ffi and ffl. Tabular numbers. Surprisingly readable.

The TYMA Garamont Roman was inspired by the Berner-Egenolff type sample from the 1560s. The Italic was inspired by a sample from Robert Granjon, also from the 1560s. The name TYMA is short for AB Typmatriser, a Swedish company founded 1948, because the Second World War stopped all import of matrices for Linotype and Intertype typesetting machines. It took until 1951-52 before the import was up to speed again. Until then, Sweden had to fend for itself. TYMA produced all technical equipment needed for type production, including the pantograph to cut the matrices, a complete set for each size and version. The templates for Garamont Roman were initiated by Henry Alm 1948. Bo Berndal was hired the following year, and continued the work by drawing and cutting templates for the rest of Garamont Roman, as well as for the remaining Garamont family. Bo Berndal stayed at TYMA until it went bankrupt in 1952. At that time Bo Berndal had already kick-started his career as type designer by drawing the typeface Reporter for one of the big daily newspapers, Aftonbladet, a version of Cheltenham for another daily, Dagens Nyheter, and copied several old typefaces for other customers. Librarian Sten G. Lindberg at The Royal Library of Stockholm, Kungliga Biblioteket, procured copies of original type samples. Henry Alm started the work in 1948, and Bo Berndal completed it - finally in this OpenType version.

Claudium started as an attempt to create a sans serif version of Garamond. As time went on it gradually became a meditation on the nature of French typography from Garamond to Excoffon. It was especially influenced by Cassandre's type for the Orly airport which seems to epitomize certain aspects of the French character�at least in typography. Attempts to create an italic met with disaster. Gradually, after lots of Cotes du Rhone, a cursive, based on Garamond�s Greek forms, emerged. It came at a time when I was looking at lot at Victor Hammer�s uncial and Andromaque cursive. So Claudium Cursive was developed as a lower case only and mated to the Claudium Regular caps ala Griffo�s original italic type. In keeping with the cursive lowercase there are cursive oldstyle numbers.

Written with a blunt graphite pen, PiS Coalfield features a scruffy scribbled look, loosely inspired by the expressive handwriting on various posters by Sister Corita Kent, an influential pop artist experimenting with serigraphs in the '60s. Hisham is a modern Arabic headline face, designed by the Lebanese calligrapher, Ahmed Maged, originally for Linotype-Hell Ltd. The Hisham design has a distinctive style with a strong baseline, relieved by strategic cut-away effects, which is counterbalanced by the bold vertical strokes and some strong diagonals. This somewhat compact font adds a new style to the range of Linotype’s Arabic headline fonts. Linotype Mhai Thaipe is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The work of German designer Markus Remscheid, the name is not hard to recognize as an English-Asian play on my type and describes its general character. The small circles which ornament the alphabet and the unusual flowing forms which look like a mixture of Arabic and Sanskrit combine to give the typeface an ornamental, exotic look. My son Sam turned 12 and all of a sudden he cares for his hairdo. It needs to be just so, not too long, not too short, with a lot of gel to hold it in place. ;-) He just had a haircut when I was creating this font, so now you know where the Haircut part comes from. The Holistic part is something that sort of sounded ok. Holistic Haircut is a nice, handmade display font. It comes with wider and narrower glyphs for the upper and lower case AND a set of alternates that likes to party with the rest.

Kaytek™ Slab is a fresh take on the correspondence typefaces of the 90s - which were originally designed for the demands of office environments. Just like its predecessors, this text typeface is robust and hard-working - meaning it works well in challenging design or printing environments - but it’s not without personality. Look closer at the lowercase g and a, especially in the italic, and you can see some unexpected elements of subversiveness within the design. The original typeface was designed by Albert Kapr between 1971 and 1973 for Typoart in Dresden. Kapr was the font designer and teacher as well as book author on type design of former East Germany. He also was an expert on this kind of type design, and thus, it is no surprise that he created Leipziger Antiqua, a design combining features of both Latin and broken scripts. The result is a stunning and unique gem from earlier times although it does not come along too distinguished or artsy. The digital version of Leipziger Antiqua was developed by Ralph M. Unger exclusively for profonts in 2005. During the work, Unger fell so deeply in love with this typeface that he couldn't help but add an expert font with small caps etc.

The Buum typeface evolved from the explosive lettering originally designed as part of a house style for an interactive science centre for kids. Beside its usual application as a strong display font in print and on screen, the bold angular shapes of glyphs are adapted for negative machine- or laser-cutting into structural materials such as iron sheets, plywood, or stone ... and for creating tactile expressive surfaces and 3D objects. This pictogrammic and dazzling font remotely echoes the morphology of the lettering of futurism and constructivism, when avant-garde typography was once an exciting adventure.
