Mrs Green is a great typeface for short texts, invitations, headlines, logotypes and advertising. We’ve started with a heavy capital G and A. At the beginning it was supposed to be just one fat style (still our favorite). But after a few months we’ve ended up with a family of 20 styles. It has contextual alternates, fractions, four types of figures (old style, lining, superior and inferior), ordinals and a case feature.

Modulair is a dot matrix based font with nice typographic features. Various figures, complete punctuation and small caps in three weights makes the Modulair a very usable font for subtile typographic solutions or headlines. Since autumn 2023, the Modular has been expanded with italics in three weights. The first sketches were made in 1979 on my father's Olivetti typewriter. Forty years later I used these sketches as the basis for the Modular.

Lombardia Illuminata is a collection of Lombardic-style letters surrounded by natural forms of vines, leaves, trellises, scrolls, sun rays, and flowers. I've always admired the work of Rudolph Koch. Culpepper is what I think Neuland would have looked like if it had been developed with lowercase, small caps and a range of weights. I started work on this series in the late 80’s and, like so many of my ideas, it was shelved when life drew me in another direction. Culpepper is the name of one of the islands in the Galapagos chain.

Slice is an experimental, circular, display typeface designed by Superfried. Slice, like its big brother Slash, also features key incisions to form the glyphs. Unlike Slash, Slice is much simpler in design based on basic geometric forms and features both upper and lowercase. The latest addition to the Astoria Range, Astoria Classic has the same basic characteristics as Astoria but with vertical stress. The characteristic subtle top left serif which makes it not quite a Roman and not quite a sans has been retained. Unlike Astoria, the Italics in form are old style yet have a modern look. Ornata B is the second of a series of old ornaments that I am trying to save from oblivion. I am not just scanning these, I am completely redesigning the ornaments from scratch, thereby eliminating imperfections. Comic books based on popular characters have been around pretty much since the advent of comic books themselves. An edition of the "Car 54 Where Are You?" series published by Dell (and based on the hit TV show created by Nat Hiken) displayed "Car 54" in a bold hand lettered stencil design on the cover. These few characters became the inspiration for Patrol Car Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Kanna Aoki drew the letters for MVB Emmascript while on a picnic near the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Mark van Bronkhorst adapted the writing as a font that maintains a very natural scrawl. Later a bold weight was added. MVB Emmascript has been used to add a lighthearted, human touch to everything from fiction paperbacks to potato chip packaging. The typeface is named for Aoki's 1968 Volkswagen, Emma.

The original Swift (1985) proved its worth in corporate identities, magazines and newspapers and occasionally in books. It is a versatile type and can be used in a wide range of circumstances. It is a striking type, with large serifs, large counters and letters that produce a particularly strong horizontal impression. This means that words and lines in Neue Swift are easily distinguished, even where there are large spaces between words, as can occur in newsprint. Neue Swift's large, robust counters were designed to improve legibility particularly in newspapers. It was designed in the early eighties, when papers were less well printed than they are today, and its special features help it survive on grey, rough paper printed on fast rotary presses. Today it is used more often outside newspapers than in them. Neue Swift (2009) is the newest version of the Swift concept. The Stempel family consists of two fonts; each made to look like a set of block stamps. Each letter appears inside its own roughly drawn square. Stempel One's letters are very simple form/counterform objects. Stempel Two's forms are more ornate: each square stamp has a thin border inside of it, and then the individual letterforms have been knocked-out, so that the colored area depicts the counters around the letters rather than the letters themselves. As a line of text is typed, a box appears for each letter entered, and all of the boxes slightly nudge against each other to form the line. The Stempel fonts have the appearance of a hand-made quality to them. Their forms appear too random, too delicate, and too thought out to have been made on a machine. Using these fonts will add a nice warm, linoleum-cut touch to your work. Both Stempel One and Stempel Two were designed by German designer Martina Balke in 2002, and are part of the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

Home Style is a revival of a very old font previously thought to have been designed by Joseph Gillé in or around the year 1820, however recent evidence from France suggests that an artist by the name of Silvestre from the same time period may be the true designer of this font. You may have seen this font in the past under the names of Circus, Roma, Madame and Gillé Classic. Originally designed in France, this very decorative font was only available in uppercase including numbers. Today this font has been re-mastered and updated with the addition of a newly designed lowercase set of letters. Glyphic Neue was inspired by the Op Art style of lettering in the United States that ran rampant in many photo type houses in the 1960's and 1970's. The Glyphic Series from the Franklin Photolettering group was an influence and spring board for this family of fonts, hence it's name. But Glyphic Neue departs from its unicase Franklin influence in several ways. Firstly the designer created both upper and lower case forms. The lowercase has been designed with barley protruding ascenders and descenders and with an x-height equivalent to the cap height, so that upper and lower can be exchanged indiscriminately for a quirky effect. Some of the letters take a cue from the original Glyphic series but many have been redesigned entirely to fit the designers vision. The italic forms differ enough from the upright version making it almost an entirely different display alphabet. Glyphic Neue is a versatile family of 6 fonts -- 3 widths, each with an accompanying italic that look equally at home when used on a party flier or a sports team visual identity.

Precious Sans Two is a complete reworking of the 2002 design which was only ever available in PostScript format. Over a decade later G-Type’s Nick Cooke decided to re-appraise the typeface, scrutinise the old letterforms and overhaul the family. Make no mistake though, Precious Sans Two is no rudimentary re-release; nearly every character has been redrawn, re-proportioned, respaced and improved. Precious Sans Two is now in cross-platform compatible OpenType format with extended Latin language support for Western & Central Europe, the Baltics & Turkey. The original quirkier glyphs (f, g, I) have been retained as an OT style set feature and the typeface now contains small caps and an extensive set of discretionary ligatures as well as both proportional & tabular figures. Pacific Clipper has its roots in an old 1930s showcard lettering style. An extra bold version of this sign painter’s relic is shown in Carl Holmes' wonderful book on lettering. It may be described as what happens when Rudolf Koch's Kabel Heavy meets ATF's Novel Gothic. Also known as Sam’s Tune, Pacific Clipper’s noteworthy features include wedged crossbars in the capital A, E, F, and H. Overcurving is present in the capital B, D, P, and R while vertical strokes in the lowercase b, d, h, k, l, and t are chopped off obliquely. Figures in Pacific Clipper are also refreshingly different, particularly the number 4. This lettering favorite turned retro typeface has been extended to include a variety of weights. Pacific Clipper is now available in the OpenType format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version as Stylistic Alternates and Historical Forms. These advanced features work in current versions of Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress.
