Before the original sketches, I had imagined and dreamed this font was used for side characters of retro robot animations such as Gundam and Ideon. But the sketches were put in a PENDING folder. It was a few years ago. In the begining of 2011, I restarted working with the sketches to complete as a font file. Detail and some shape were improved retaining the original concept and they were completed, then named ‘Space Colony’. Just as the name implies, this wide and geometric font family consisting of six weights was designed targeting at use for futuristic product of game, movie, logo and so on. Not only that but the rounded shape makes a lovely, cute and soft impressions so this font is also suited for cartoons, animations and character merchandise too. Before the Great War, there were great posters. Posters of elegance and grandeur. Posters calling people to the pleasures of sunny southern France and to the perfections of northern Italy’s dolce vita. Le Havre, based on a poster by AM Cassandre, was one of my first typefaces that took inspiration from this genre. Now, the golden memories of years past are the inspiration for insigne design’s new Gineso Titling as well. Gineso revives the retro forms of past poster design with its newly crafted sense of humanity, which is amplified by a great variety of texture options. While the new forms are perfect for posters, this titling font is also ideal for bringing the charm of pre-war Southern Europe to a new bottle of wine, to fine foods and beverages, and to high-end logotypes. I am a HUGE fan of Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’. Ever since a television series has been made, the series of books is also know as ‘The Last Kingdom’. I have read them all, at break-neck speed and I can’t wait for the next book!! Wintanceastre (Winchester) is based on a 10th century Latin manuscript. I have tried to stay close to the original letters, but since Latin does not have all modern glyphs, I found myself designing the missing ones. So, before you scold me for having made a font that is historically inaccurate: it was never meant to be an exact replica, nor would anyone want an exact replica, as it would be useless for modern texts and designs. Wintanceastre comes with a whole bunch of ligatures and alternate glyphs. Use it for any design that needs a little ‘Dark Ages’ look!

Edgethorn is a beautiful, italic-only transitional serif typeface that was born after I became obsessed with a few small paragraphs of italic text on a type specimen broadside from 1785. Working on this type revival allowed me to delve much more deeply than I ever have before into type history and typeface classification, and I’ve included some type history for you with your download so that you can play around with the smattering of historical characters I included (like the medial s). Although it is based on centuries-old typefaces, Edgethorn is elegant, timeless, and perfect for 21st century projects. Edgethorn includes approximately 525 glyphs — including 64 standard and discretionary ligatures and a handful of contextual alternates and character variants — and supports over 200 languages. The OpenType features can be very easily accessed by using OpenType-savvy programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.

George Ryan's ITC Migrate is a highly condensed sans serif display face that effectively complements ITC Adderville. Migrate represents what Ryan calls a “more highly evolved version” of a typeface he designed for Bitstream in 1991 called Oz Handicraft. “Both faces,“ says Ryan, “are based on designs of the popular early 20th-century type designer Oswald Cooper.” His inspiration came from drawing samples found in the Book of Oz Cooper, published in 1949 by the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago. “Oz worked extensively with the sans serif form long before it became popular in the States, eschewing a popular belief of the time that sans serifs were only skeletons of letters.” Where Oz Handicraft was informal and quirky, ITC Migrate has a more restrained feel. “The uppercase characters and figures, in particular, have been reworked,” says Ryan, ”resulting in a more formal and traditional, compressed sans serif typeface.”

Near the end of his life, legendary type designer Eric Gill lived in Jerusalem, and became interested in the typesetting of the Hebrew alphabet and the challenges it entailed. He designed his own Hebrew font which has not (to my knowledge) been digitized before. It is sometimes held up as an example of how not to do a Hebrew font: Gill introduced strange serifs and shapes that were jarring to readers used to more traditional fonts. But it is quite readable, and does start to grow on you after a while; extended text in Gill Hebrew is possible. I've added a set of alternate digits that are based on the shapes of the letters (Gill's digits are pretty standard text figures). I've also made some of the Unicode Hebrew symbols that Gill didn't (e.g. New Sheqel Sign, Alef-Lamed ligature, etc.) and also included vowel-points.

CoreGaon is a modern sans-serif font. The main characteristics of the typeface are rounded edges of strokes and soft look & feel. Rockinsoda child’s handwriting style font with little improvisation on uppercase mode, although these fonts are all uppercase fonts. HK Kelie is a light to medium-contrast typeface with swashy, medium bracketed serifs, and terminals in the appropriate places, as well as bracketed junctions in various letterforms. The main feature of the typeface is the disconnection between the bowls and the stems. However, the bowl is very close to the stem, creating the illusion of connection. HK Kelie is calm, attractive, and legible — but above all, it is sophisticated.

Although English characters do appear on screen, in Star Wars canon this "language" is known as High Galactic. The main written language in Star Wars is called Aurebesh. This font is designed for an interface or signage with a pseudo dot-matrix style. Aurebesh has more than 26 letters, the additional characters are available as glyphs in the set. Numbers and symbols in the Aurebesh fashion are also included.

The opening titles and credits of the 1947 film comedy “The Egg and I” were done in a hand lettered casual sans serif typeface which inspired the digital font Egg Farm JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions. “The Egg and I” introduced audiences to Ma and Pa Kettle as portrayed by Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride, who went on to do a number of additional films as those characters.

Swanville developed as part of a train font that eventually became LetterTrain. The letters of Swanville are bold, have a funny “serif” on the top but not on the bottom, and when the letters have interiors, the interior has the shape of the letter. Lower-case letters are smaller versions of the upper-case letters. Because development of this face stopped long ago, it has a limited character set.

The main problem with handwritten fonts is the limited use in body text. Bodyhand is specifically designed to remedy this, for example when designing children's books with a larger amount of text or in similar contexts. Bodyhand is especially adapted to read comfortably even when used in small font size and requires approximately the same space as the fonts we usually use in body text, such as Times or Helvetica.

Avancar Condensed Font Family showcases the exquisite pairing of modern grotesque style and soft sans-serif design. These conjunctions provide the effect of owning two subfamily typefaces and are an amazing solution for designers. The main feature of this font family is a semi-condensed design with a slightly higher x-height. In the late 1920s Walter Tiemann cut this font for Klingspor Brothers in Offenbach am Main. It comes close to Luthersche Fraktur and, though quite slender, possesses a good gray value and readability. This blackletter font fits excellently into narrow columns. In the history of 20th century graphic arts, the evolution of the informal sans serif has been a uniquely American phenomenon. The ongoing saga of this (still as popular as ever) sub-genre dates back to the maturity of the Industrial Age and early Hollywood film titling, runs through the prosperous times of interwar print publications, sees mass flourishing during the various media propagations of the film type era, and solidifies itself as arguably the most common design element in the latter years of the century. Fun, bouncy, playful, and highly exciting, the casual sans serif is now all over game packaging, film and animation titles, book covers, food boxes, concert posters, and pretty much everywhere design aims to induce excitement about a product or an event. The casual sans is the natural high pill of typesetting. We figured it was high time for the casual sans to adapt to 21st century technology, gain more versatility, and become as much fun to use as the emotions it triggers. So we’re quite excited to issue Bananas, a fun sans serif family in 6 weights and 3 widths that can be used anywhere your designer’s imagination can take you. Rather than being based on a single design, Bananas was sourced from multiple American film era faces, all from 1950s and 1960s, when the casual sans genre was at its popular peak. Headliners’ Catalina and its very similar cousin, Letter Graphics’ Carmel, served as initial study points. Then a few Dave West designs informed the design development and weighting process, before narrow and wide takes were sketched out and included in the family. The entire development process happened in a highly precise interpolative environment. ATF Franklin Gothic® A new take on an old favorite Franklin Gothic has been the quintessential American sans for more than a century. Designed by Morris Fuller Benton and released in 1905 by American Type Founders, Franklin Gothic quickly stood out in the crowded field of sans-serif types, gaining an enduring popularity. Benton’s original design was a display face in a single weight. It had a bold, direct solidity, yet conveyed plenty of character. A modern typeface in the tradition of 19th-century grotesques, Franklin Gothic was drawn with a distinctive contrast in stroke weight, giving it a unique personality among the more mono-linear appearance of later geometric and neo-grotesque sans-serif types. Franklin Gothic has been interpreted into a series of weights before, most notably with ITC Franklin Gothic. But as the original type was just a bold display face (later accompanied by a few similarly bold widths and italics), how Benton’s design is expanded to multiple weights and styles as a digital type family can vary significantly. Benton designed several gothic faces that harmonize with one another, including Franklin Gothic, News Gothic, and Monotone Gothic, that can serve as models for new interpretations of his work. With ATF Franklin Gothic, Mark van Bronkhorst looked to Benton’s Monotone Gothic—originally a single typeface in a regular weight, and similar to Franklin Gothic in its forms—as the basis for lighter styles. ATF Franklin Gothic may appear familiar given its heritage, but is a new design offering a fresh take on Benton’s work. The text weights are wider and more open than some previous Franklin Gothic interpretations, and as a result are quite legible as text, at very small sizes, and on screen. ATF Franklin Gothic maintains the warmth and the spirit of a Benton classic while offering a suite of fonts tuned precisely for contemporary appeal and utility.
