Kuppa is a yummy display unicase with a lot of attitude. Two styles within the Kuppa family a like brothers — look alike and still completely different. The name tramuntana (Tramontane) is the Catalonian word for the cold wind that comes from the Pyrenees mountains and goes as far as the Balearic Islands. It was designed for editorial purposes (books and magazines). This typeface family contains different font versions for different optical sizes, caption, text, subhead and display, all of them with different x-height proportions and contrast. The serifs are asymmetrical and the letterforms have geometric modulated strokes which simulates the calligraphic variations. Its design approach gives a dynamic feeling, contributing to text flow and continuous reading. The kerning has been optimized for Baltic languages and Western, Southern, and Central European languages.

Kurkuma (Turmeric in Dutch) is a spice I use in all of my curries. And I love curry! It's not more than fair to name a font after my favorite ingredient, so here you have it: Kurkuma. It is a unique and somewhat bizarre font with both an angelic and a diabolical side. I wouldn't set a whole text in it, but it does look great in headlines, posters and websites.

Echelon is based upon 1970s Eastern European ‘pipe-style’ typefaces. This style of Communist consumer typography came from what, at the time, seemed like a bizarre mirror universe: Existing alongside the West, similar-but-different, essentially unknowable. Even though the letterforms had the same historical origins as their Western equivalents, they also had their own bizarre fashionable/unfashionable aesthetic. The parallels between the surveillance practices of the Soviet Union and those of today’s Western governments informed the naming of this typeface. Echelon is the codename for a massive international surveillance system that collects and processes data from communications satellites. It can eavesdrop on telecoms and computer systems, it can track bank accounts. It can record and store information on millions of individuals.

Some time ago, I read an article about the Kennedy assassination. In that article, a person dubbed ‘the umbrella man’ played a rather bizarre role: apparently an innocent bystander with an opened umbrella was thought to be in cahoots with Kennedy’s killer. I immediately thought that the name ‘Umbrella Man’ was a good title for a horror movie, so when I created this rough brush font, I named it Umbrella Man.

Galangal, or Laos, is a root belonging to the ginger family, which is used in Indonesian cuisine. Since this font has the same design characteristics as Kurkuma, I thought naming it after a root was quite appropriate. Galangal is pretty unique, with thin and fat areas, bizarre glyphs and rough edges. Upper and lower case are fully interchangeable and the typeface comes with a full range of diacritics.

Many blackletter and calligraphic typefaces are elegant and can be used for items like invitations and liturgical or religious texts. Rankensteen is probably not one of them. It is crude and bizarre and with a somewhat menacing appearance. It seems more appropriate for a letter from a pirate than for a formal invitation.

The letters of ShirlyUJest have serifs that have gone wild, crossing over themselves, giving them the look of overgrown vegetation. It is weird and bizarre and out of control; the name says it all. It is caps-only with the lower-case keys containing the glyphs identical to those on the upper-case keys.
