I have always loved gazing at the stars. Too bad that you don’t get to see a true starry night these days - mostly because of light pollution. Starlight Lovers is a messy serif. It is hand painted, using a brush and Chinese ink, so the edges may be a bit rough. In my opinion, this adds to the font’s character! Starlight Lovers is an ideal font for (Christmas) cards, book covers, posters and product packaging. Comes with a milky way of diacritics as well!

The FiveOh fonts are caps-only with extreme contrast.. They are decorative or display fonts with a carefree, wobbly look. FiveOh-One and FiveOh-Shadowed contain the same set of letters on upper and lower-case keys. FiveOh-Two, Three, and Stars contain different interior decorations on upper and lower cases. Thus there are eight different sets of letters in the five typefaces. FiveOh-One can serve as a base layer with the other four fonts layered on top of it to give letters with two colors.

Le Havre, based on a poster by AM Cassandre, was one of my first typefaces that took inspiration from this genre. First off, Slivowitz is written with a v (SlivoVitz), rather than a w, but I liked it better with a w. Slivowitz is a plum brandy from Eastern Europe. My father used to be an international truck driver and he often had to go to Eastern Europe. He took all kinds of ‘western’ goods with him to give away (plastic bags, beer, cigarettes - remember, Eastern Europe at the time was still communist!). He always came back with bottles of Slivowitz. I never tasted it, as I was too young, but I liked the name and I decided to name this font after a fond memory! Slivowitz is an easy-going handwritten script font - it looks good on fashion items, book covers and fancy magazines, but greeting cards will look just as great. Comes with a bunch of ligatures, alternates and a whole lotta diacritics!

Occasionally font projects are started, but then set aside for other designs and are subsequently forgotten for a while. Such is the case of More Deco Lettering JNL; a bold thick-and-thin sans modeled from vintage source material.

Niemi is a continuation of the work started with Versteeg. Where Versteeg was separated into individual circles, Huet connects these circles and adds a sharp geometric style. This creates a nice juxtaposition between the rounded ends, and sharp corners.

I recently bought a small, portable speaker. I can now listen to music when I am making fonts! Output Volume is a name I came up with after reading the quick start guide that came with the speaker. Output Volume is a 100% handmade display font - it was based on a protest sign, but after a few glyphs it started to morph into something unique. I created 2 sets of contextual alternates (including the most used accented glyphs), that will cycle as you type. I also added some discretionary ligatures, to get an even more random effect. Output Volume comes with a vast array of accented letters, including Vietnamese.

Normal and upright italic script fonts line a well-trodden path; left-leaning fonts (or "rightalics" as they're confusingly called), on the other hand, are a rarity. Here at Eclectotype Fonts we don't like to do things too conventionally, so here's Backstroke, a laid back script with a unique voice. With contextual alternates for start and end forms of certain characters, swash versions of L, Q and Z (surely the most used initial caps!), and a handful of stylistic sets, Backstroke is a restrained script. Stylistic sets are: 1. the start forms of i, j, m, n, and p are used always instead of only at word starts. 2. lower case ascenders get a whole lot loopier. 3. alternate versions of G, N and Y. 4. swash L, Q and Z. 5. swaps the default Polish script lslash for a more familiar version While fonts that lean the wrong way may be a bit more difficult to fit into your layouts than boring old regular italics, they will reward you with their individuality. Mrs Lollipop is a hand drawn narrow typeface designed for one of our books. You can layer different styles over the background style to achieve lots of colorful effects. Check out the manual for details. Mrs Lollipop has upper and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers).
