An image of the wide, Art Deco influenced lettering of a sign over a coffee bar inside a Jacksonville, Florida Lovett’s Supermarket (a predecessor to Winn-Dixie) inspired the namesake font Coffee Bar JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions.

The inspiration for this typeface was found tucked away in what is arguably the worst book of advertising clip art ever published (cleverly entitled The Advertising Cartoon Clip Art Book from 1971). It’s so bad, it’s good—at least at getting your attention. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and CE 1250 character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

As with some of my previous type designs, it is a typographic drunken stumble, wonderfully and awkwardly stumbling across designs, surprising with each letter typed. The free form hand lettering comprising the titles and credits for the 1966 romantic comedy “The Glass Bottom Boat” were the model for Sightseeing Boat JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Top Hat JNL is an new treatment given to Jeff Levine's Art Lover JNL capturing the classic look of Art Deco at its boldest.

Chocolate Bar JNL emulates hand-lettering on the sheet music for a song selection called "Shoe Shine Boy" from Connie's Hot Chocolates of 1936 (an all-black musical revue). The lettering was not found in the song's title, but rather in the name of the show itself.
