Originally made for a health food store chain we cannot name, Pipa is the embodiment of organic display typography. Although it draws inspiration from some cold type ideas, like the uncredited Atlantis from VGC and a couple of older photo-lettering faces, its overall expression is right in line with what has become today's vernacular in integrity organic display packaging. Pipa's construct approaches the thick-and-thin idea from a rarely used perspective, where the flow in form contrast naturally seeps out from within each stroke, while minimizing the amount of strokes helps the totality of the setting come positively alive. While some terms and actions get trendy, some font styles do it too. It wouldn't be crazy to combine these worlds, in fact it happens often. Selfie is a connected sans serif based in vintage signage scripts seen in Galerías of Buenos Aires. These places are, in general, very small shopping centres which pedestrians sometimes use as shortcuts to get to other parts of the city. Their dark corridors take you back in time, and all of a sudden you are surrounded by cassettes, piercings, and old fashioned cloth. For some reason, all these shops use monolined geometric scripts. Surely, neon strings are easier to manipulate when letterforms have simple shapes. My very first aim with Selfie was to make a font that would serve as a company to those self-shot pictures that have become so popular nowadays. However, the font turned into something more interesting: I realised it had enough potential to stand-alone. Selfie proves that geometry itself can be really attractive. In this font, elegance is not achieved with the already-known contrast between thicks and thins of calligraphy, but with the purity of form. Its curves were based in perfectly shaped circles which made the font easy to be used at different angles (some posters show it at a 24.7º angle) without having problems/deformities. In addition to its nice performance when used over photographs, the font can be a good option for packaging and wedding invitations. TIPS Adding some lights/shadows between letters will for sure catch the eye of the viewer: Words will look as if they were made with tape/strings; so trendy nowadays. Try using Selfie at a 24.7º angle so that the slanted strokes become perfectly vertical. Having the decorative ligatures feature (dlig) activated is a good option to see letters dance. TECHNICAL It is absolutely recommended to use this font with the standard ligatures feature (liga) activated. It makes letters ligate perfectly and also improves the space between words.

Yazan is a New Arabic display typeface for desktop applications, inspired by oriental kufi and Qairawani kufi . Designed and developed by Sultan M. Saeed, Yazan has updated proportions and details, and is distinguished by its traditional serenity, modern aesthetics, This makes it suitable for large display sizes, especially in the area of advertising, while still functioning well as a text face.

Hollenbeck JNL is the Art Deco, all-caps cousin of Jeff Levine's Hallandale JNL typeface. This version utilizes the thick-and-thin stroke weights so popular during the Art Deco era, while retaining the look of hand-lettered copy. Best suited at larger point sizes, this font is a nice alternative to the over-used display faces reminiscent of that time period.

In the 1934 edition of the American Type Foundry’s “Book of American Type” is a selection of letterpress fonts which emulate typewriter faces. One design named “Bulletin Typewriter” served at the model for Cub Reporter JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The font has been monospaced in order to add a more traditional typewriter look to any project.

Cirkulus is an experimental display face, constructed using combinations of hairline circles and straight lines. The typeface was designed by Michael Neugebauer in 1970. Cirkulus is a unicase alphabet, with a very lightweight appearance, and should be used solely in large display sizes.

BonaVia is an adaptation of Greater Albion's Bonning and Bonnington families. Its purpose made to enable the construction of banners and mastheads in the style of traditional streetsigns, and offered in Regular and 'Blanc' faces. A selection of decorative ends and fleurons are included. BonaVia is splendid on posters, signage, book and CD covers and labels with a period feel.

Eccentric was designed in 1881 by Gustav F. Schroeder. It is an all-capital, narrow-bodied, monoline display face that could be described as high waisted. With cross-bars and main junctures more than halfway up the letterforms, every letter - except the W - has a long-legged appearance. Eccentric has a wide range of display uses, from playbills to fashion advertisements.

A revival of “Gras Vibert”, a French fat face originally cast by the Didot typefoundry in Paris. It was cut in 1840 by Vibert, an engraver employed by the foundry. The capitals are heavier than the lowercase letters, and the characters g, k, y and & are rather peculiarly shaped, exaggerating the vertical stress. The font is designed for large sizes.

This unusual sans typeface was inspired by a serif face called Faust, designed by Albert Kapr for the Institut für Buchgestaltung in 1959. Its mix of medieval, Jugenstil and Bauhaus influences makes it an intriguing choice for your next project.
