Designed for the printing of a magazine, the Fontana Sistema was based fundamentally on the Spanish language as its natural and cultural context. Due to the spanish colonization of America, the spanish language has been influenced by native american terms that enriched it and caused significant changes in both the sound and form of words. These sounds and forms had a strong influence on the identity of text, substantially modifying the nature and the characteristics of the composition. The Fontana Sistema we present is the fruit of our desire to design a font that, based on the spanish language, would endow the publication with identity and at the same time offer a framework for typographic research.

The Bitstream version of Caslon 540 of the American Type Founders, 1902. Based on William Caslon I's first English Old Style typefaces of 1725. Caslon modeled his designs based on late 17th century Dutch types, but his artistic skills enabled him to improve those models, bringing a variety of forms and subtlety of details. Strokes in Caslon fonts are somewhat heavier than in earlier Old Style fonts, serifs are thicker and a bit stubby. Italic letters have uneven slope. A text set in Caslon looks legible and aesthetically appealing. Caslon is a favorite font of English printers for setting of classical literature. Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType in 2002 by Isay Slutsker and Manvel Shmavonyan.

Journal type family is a low-contrast text face of the Ionic-Legibility group. It was designed at the Polygraphmash Type Design Bureau in 3 styles in 1951–53 by Lev Malanov and Elena Tsaregorodtseva. The fonts were based on Cyrillic version of Excelsior that was developed in 1936 in Moscow by professor Michael Shchelkunov, Nikolay Kudryashev et al., that in its turn was based on Excelcior by Chauncey H. Griffith, 1931, Mergenthaler Linotype. Digital version was developed in ParaGraph (ParaType) in 1991. In 2012–13 designer Natalia Vasilyeva made some corrections in original digital data, extended character set and add bold italic style. The family was rereleased in ParaType in 2013.

This typeface design was influenced by the British Rail corporate type introduced in an old lettering instruction book published in Japan. Of course, the only clue to this typeface is the lettering instruction book at hand. The signage for the Café Moskau with the words »RESTAURANT«, »CAFÉ«, »KONZERT« and »MOCKBA« set in capital letters, becomes the basis for the Moskau Grotesk which was developed by Björn Gogalla in 2013. This face should not be seen as an imitation. A few shortcomings were »fixed«. In favor of maintaining the core characteristics some unique features were, however, not relinquished. California Bound JNL is based on the hand lettering found on the side of the old California Zephyr passenger trains; the route now being a part of Amtrak. This somewhat unusual Art Deco design is more utilitarian than decorative, yet it still captures the "Streamline Era" perfectly.

Roberta goes back to the old poster fonts of the 1930s. It is an excellent alternative and combination to fonts like Arnold Böcklin or Hobo. Ralph M. Unger redrew and digitized this font in 2003. His work is based on artwork taken from old font catalogs.

Designed by M. Fahrenwaldt for the Schriftguss foundry in 1929, Minister font is a contemporary design based on Garalde types. The letters have an oblique stress, capitals are wide, serifs are prominently concave. Minister font has obvious calligraphic overtones, making it a good informal text face.

MommieBrush is a brush script headline typeface. It is based on the Spencerian Mommie that won the 2008 TDC award. But as a brush script it works in a different area. Like my other brush script typefaces it is made for food packaging and product branding.

Victor Hammer created many faces based on uncial handwriting of which American Uncial, released commercially by the Stempel foundry in 1952, is the source for this version. Uncial is an ideal choice for historical or church pieces, provided that the length of the copy is brief.
