Alternate Gothic was designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Typefounders Company in 1903. All three weights of Alternate Gothic are bold and narrow. In fact, this face is essentially a condensed version of Benton’s other well-known sans serif types, Franklin Gothic and News Gothic. In the early twentieth century, the modern concept of type “families” had not yet been formed — and though Benton designed these sans serifs to harmonize with each other, the foundry gave them different names. By day, Ken Gitschier is one of Monotype Imaging's in-house type designers, busy creating fonts for on-screen typography - a demanding undertaking that requires meticulously editing fonts on a pixel-by-pixel basis. His tools are Fontographer software, a Wacom digital tablet, a high-resolution monitor and a keen understanding of typographic forms. But by night, Gitschier uses the same tools to indulge his passion for experimental typeface designs. GitchHand is one of Gitschier's nocturnal projects. The design has an almost painterly quality. Depth, texture and even a sense of color are found in the lettershapes. Edgy, iconoclastic, and not for the typographically faint of heart, GitchHand makes a strong visual statement.

Straits is an oddball fun ALL-CAPS font, a modern take / re-imagining of some old Art Deco signage and a sister to my other font Penang. The font is available in 2 weights for now, a light and a medium. In general I think ALL-CAPS steal 26 characters from you, so each letter in each case is a little different, however subtly. This being an ALL-CAPS font I imagine it will work best in Headlines and other bold statements, but buy it and find out. The font is loaded with plenty of extras and glyphs. This was designed to be fun, so I hope you can have some with it.

Muisca, that in its early edition was named as «Muisca Sans», was developed in mid-1997 and based on the graphic concept of pre-Columbian characteristics figures within some of the very few visual elements recovered from the Muisca culture. This ancient pre-Columbian tribe disappeared since the arrival of the Spanish 500 years ago, in what is now the center of Colombia. In fact, the name of the capital Bogotá goes back to Bacatá as primary or village downtown of what was once the imperial capital of the Muisca tribe. This typographic project was submitted as my work for the degree in Graphic Design, obtained in September of that year (at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia), under the creative concept of vindicating the ancient culture and identity through a functional typeface, into a fact without precedent in the country. Muisca was recently edited, arranged and completed, including multilingual diacritic glyphs to be versatile in several languages. Related and inspired by Latin America, Ethnic, Native, Tribal, Mysthical, Handmade, Aboriginal, Pre-Hispanic, Pre-Columbian, Textured, Fantasy. Ideal to be used in logos, display text & titles, games and other design applications that reminds of the Pre-Hispanic art.

Betabet was drawn using traditional serif fonts as a guideline. The scribbled style and serifs combine to make an unusual font. Betabet does not look like handwriting, but works well where handwriting or script fonts might seem too insubstantial.
